Re: The Walking Dead (S5E01) -- Season Premiere -- "No Sanctuary" -- 10/12/14

The tatooed face guy Rick & Co released from the box car was the same guy in the last 'Then' flashback who threw Terminus Mary back into the car and took the other girl out; the crew who took over Terminus. This was confirmed by Gimple/Nico on TD.

That guy did say something along the lines of 'We are the same!'. I think it meant that both him and Rick & Co were the 'butchers' not the cattle.

And I didn't catch the first guy killed over the trough in the opening minutes was Sam. Kudos to those who mentioned that!

I found that the only shortcoming in this episode. Seemed like a continuity error to me. It was very distracting. "I'm going to stop in the middle of all this ass-kicking to wash my face and re-do my makeup." Otherwise an amazing episode.

My little nitpick assuming I'm remembering the scene correctly....

I can't remember, were Rick's hands bound with a plastic zip tie? If yes, then I have a hard time believing he was able to cut those ties with his piece of wood. Sometimes those ties are hard to cut with scissors! And I would think the sharpness of the wood's "blade" would have dulled long before he was able to cut through it.

She probably didn't want to be mistaken for a walker and shot by them. Still, she was a little too clean for sure!

It's about friction, not sharpness!

I find it funny that the major complaint seems to be that Carol stopped at a stream, pond, puddle of water on her way thru the woods to find the others and washed her face/hair. Not completely plausible but it is possible.

My complaint is the shoot the "gas" tank and then shoot a bottle rocket (from a hundred yards away)up into the air and have it come down within range of the expanding cloud of gas to ignite it. Possible? Maybe. Likely? about a one in a thousand chance with the first shot.

Yup--that was absolutely awesome from beginning to end. Just incredible.
For the first time every I liked TWD much better than Homeland.

I was uncertain about that until the scene in last night's episode... now I'm convinced he doesn't know anything and is just trying to baffle 'em with BS.

That makes sense and if Carol found a sink and water, I can see how she could wash her face because she won't get another chance like that once she leaves the compound.

But, unless I'm mistaken, weren't Carol's clothes also clean of the zombie guts too?

I did catch the glimpse of Morgan but only basically by accident. I always skip the previews and find it a little annoying that they put that after the previews. How about after the credits/before the "next time on."

Oh, and as far as the episode: awesome. One of my favorites of the entire series. They really spared nothing out of the gate. Very well done. As mentioned above, not a minute of filler.

Yes, but she applied the guts to a poncho (which she discarded) not to her regular clothes.

Re: The Walking Dead (S5E01) -- Season Premiere -- "No Sanctuary" -- 10/12/14

So if the reason for the Terminus "THEN" flashbacks were to just show that the Terminus People were good initially. But after a bad group followed their sanctuary signs and locked them up and raped the women - only after somehow getting control back from the bad group, did they also turn bad. I can see how that would make them distrust new people and treat anyone else arriving at Terminus as enemies.

That still doesn't explain why the Terminus People became cannibals. Once they did that, I think they became the worst of the bad people.

She had been wearing a cloak/tarp - which makes sense...no need to ruin your own clothes.

I thought they missed an opportunity to have her just point the gun with the rocket at the tank. Even if that's just as unrealistic, I would have bought it more than the perfect arc shot.

Other than that I enjoyed the episode - nice brutality, good decisions from the characters (don't talk, just stab) and rapid movement out of an area that could have bogged down the season. The flashbacks will be interesting if they continue.

She seemed to just smear the guys on the poncho. Did she just remove that?

I think I see your confusion. The Walking Dead is a make believe television show. Sometimes the creators take creative license to make scenes look cool. Those aren't REAL zombies who would maybe take a quick look a her and Carol is really an actress named Melissa Suzanne McBride who was never in any real danger.

I believe it was the guy with the face tattoos that was killed by the zombie.
I watched it with closed captioning on. The girl he drags out says "no! No! not again!", which sounded an awful like you-know-who. Made me hear something different, cause that guy definitely resembled the character.

So it was cool that they decided to have him remove it so we could see it was Morgan (even though it really made no sense for him to just take it off out-of-the-blue like that with no one else around).

I had to laugh at Conan's hipster Starbucks barista comment during Talking Dead. It's what I've been thinking since he showed up.

Also, why does everyone get so rapey and dark in the zombie apocalypse? I want to see that movie where people work together and rebuild.

I always wonder that too...in every apocalypse type movie it turns to that. No cops or rules? Lets just rape eveyone. Weird that always seems the place for writers to go almost every time.

.
I like how the majority of people in the poll said that Conan would not survive in an apocalypse.
