Two that I haven't seen mentioned were great MTV animated shows that didn't make it past the first season: Clone High and 3-South

The Nine (or THE NIN9)-- Supposedly had 13 episodes, but was cancelled long before that. It had a premise that wouldn't have lasted, but I was kind of hooked and wondered where it was going.

Also I was hooked on Boomtown which was suffered such a cruel fate -- waiting until the last minute for a second season renewal (and revamp), then had the plug pulled after two episdoes, then had the DVD released without the Season Two episodes included.

And can't forget Murder One. Will copy and paste my Murder One story when I have a chance later today...

Speaking of Tim Daly....Eyes. Loved that show. ABC never gave it a chance.

Boomtown was great too.

Deadwood, Rome, Freaks & Geeks, Undeclared, Sports Night, to name a few.

While it wasn't an all-time great show, Magic City's run was too short.

I agree. I liked it a lot, but it is a bit overrated.

Re: The all-time too short-lived TV shows

My "short" list:

Adventures of Brisco County Jr. - Fox's 1st sci-fi/western starring Bruce Campbell, why did they have to renew the X-Files for a S2 instead?!?
Carnivale
Class of '96
Dark Angel - James Cameron was supposedly going to refocus and reinvigorate Season 3, but Firefly was greenlit instead.
Drive
Firefly
Jeremiah - J. Michael Straczynski made me believe that Luke Perry could act. Hugely underrated show.
Once & Again - Damn good drama that just kept getting better.
Pasadena
Reunion
Rome
Skin
Sports Night
Terriers
Veritas: The Quest
Wonderfalls

A few of these shows really were a lot better when marathoned, but of course that wasn't done as much in the 90's when many of them aired.

Re: The all-time too short-lived TV shows

I think most of what would comprise my list has already been mentioned but, here are some of my faves I would have loved to see carry on:

#1. Sports Night - brilliant, beginning to end.

and in no order from there:

Veronica Mars
Titus
Muppets Tonight!
Firefly
Freaks & Geeks
Undeclared
Wonderfalls
Pushing Daisies
Scrubs 2.0

*edit - And how could I forget Human Target. Such a shame it only lasted one season. I thought it was finally time for Mark Valley to hit it big.

Oh yeah, a lot of brilliance, with a lot more potential, but cancelled because &^%$ 90210 was going from high school to college and Fox didn't want two "College" shows on their schedule.

I had some eps. still on VHS, but years ago picked up almost the complete series burned on DVD. It holds up so well. Jason Gedrick, Lisa Dean Ryan, Kari Wuhrer and so much great acting.

I bought a DVD bootleg of the complete series and was pretty satisfied with the ending.

Yeah, that was surprisingly well done, though I know that there were 3-4 eps. unaired in the US that aired in a couple other countries. I need to re-watch the whole thing, one of these days, even though it was never completed.

Same here, including buying the bootleg, which I've done with maybe a dozen series. If ever they get officially released I'll buy them immediately, until then I'll have the bootlegs.

Re: The all-time too short-lived TV shows

Regarding "Drive" The show was a dead man walking before it premiered.

Production delays and recasting along with premiering freaking late as hell the season it aired. I recall it premiered in mid-April the year it aired and no show that premieres that late has a chance in hell of making it. Also, FOX ordered 13 episodes, but the production was so behind that they only filmed 7 and was hoping to air the back 6 in the Fall when they finished filming. Who does that? They also shot a Pilot with a different lead actor and FOX didn't like him, so they recast with Nathan Fillion and had to shoot an entirely new Pilot with him.

The premise had potential, but I'm glad it got canned otherwise Nathan Fillion probably would have never signed on to Castle two years later.

Different people have various reasons for their enjoying this, but I really loved many of the characters and the "feel" of the show. A very emotional reaction in my case.

I've seen many who have thought it brilliant after trying it, but of course not everyone does. As ever, different tastes and all.

Yup that's her. She was a series regular.

Another person who was probably glad the show got the axe.

I've seen some who only like S4, but I rather liked S3 too. Definitely a shame it was cancelled.

I was a definite fan of Boomtown too, but haven't rewatched it since. I have the dvd's somewhere, and need to get to that, to refresh my memory.

I was a HUGE fan of S1, but felt that S2 saw a definite decline. It wasn't terrible imo, but I wasn't nearly as disappointed by the cancellation as if it had still been S1 quality.

I thought it was solid throughout its run. It gets better in seasons three and four but I always have felt like it gets a lot of undeserved flack.
