I was very "meh" about it, having seen "Mirror, Mirror" a number of times.

There was no reason for the visual reboot to be so extreme except for the show runners to be able to put their own mark on it. They could have done a much better job of updating the TOS aesthetic while still being true to that look.
To me it’s just made it harder to get into the show, with only 3 of the first 9 eps being what I would call “good”.

But anyways this makes it 4 out of 10. Going to The Mirror universe may have been predictable but if you make it good that doesn’t matter and this was damn good. Captain Killy was amazing and Ash killing Dr Culber was heartbreaking.

And of course we will be going into the palace.

And I loved the shout-out to the Defiant. Tying together all the series is a good thing in my book, I just wish the look of the show wasn’t such an obstacle to enjoying it.

I just watched the latest episode and suprised how much I liked it.

Don't know if it was noted here but this episode was directed by Jonathan Frakes (Riker) of ST Next Generation.

Voyager took place in the 2370's not the 2250's. It was just about 7-8 years ahead of the first season of TNG when it first premiered.

Loved that they are doing an arc of episodes in the MU. All hail Emperor Georgiou! Her outfit was badass. Cosplay fans are going to have a ball recreating these costumes.

As for AshVoq, there are so many paths they could take his character now. Do they "fix" him so he stays with the good guys, a la Seven of Nine, or does he become their Big Bad?

The new Andorian and Tellarite makeup was amazing. Now that's how you do an update with modern techniques!

This show has really turned a corner for me. The last three episodes have been just great. The first 6 or so episodes had to do a lot of worldbuilding to get through, and I'm beginning to wish they had done a "planet of the week" episode to start off with, then go to Michael's mutiny.

But now they've really got their footing and using the Mirror Universe to show darker stories without feeling like they're missing the point of the series in the Prime Universe is a great use of the concept.

I'm really hoping the bridge of the Defiant still retains elements of it's original design aesthetic.

I just got caught up with the last 2 episodes that have aired since returning from the break.

Really great stuff. I'm liking this little evil doppelganger alternate universe arc.

Good call to whoever here figured out that Tyler was in fact a Klingon morphed into a human. I know someone here mentioned it.

I think this series is really hitting it's stride now.

Loved seeing Michelle Yeoh back now as an evil emperor.

Sarek in the goatee, wasn't that kind of a callback to an old Star Trek episode where Spock (from another universe?) had a goatee. I vaguely recall that.

Yep. All the signs were there and once we knew where they were a few episodes ago it wasn't difficult to assemble them. Glad (I guess) to see I was right.

It's also nice we didn't have to go to season 2 before everything was out in the open. It'll be interesting to see where things go from here.

Now I have questions: how long as the Alt-Lorca been in the Prime Universe? Where is the Prime-Lorca?

I would guess for quite some time now, a few years at least. It can't be a concidence that he got posted to a Starfleet ship that had an experiemental propulsion system capable of taking him back home.

I don't know if the internet people are that smart, or the clues were that badly hidden, but all of Discovery's big three twists (Voq is Tyler, they are in the MU and that Lorca is from the MU) were correctly predicted.

I guess the latest reveal is a convenient way of getting Jason Isaacs off the show by the end of the season, or at least reducing him to recurring guest star.

Fantastic episode though. I am thoroughly loving the MU arc, although I'd love to see what the real ISS Discovery is up to in the Prime Universe. It does seem to be a pivot away from the Klingon-heavy episodes from the first half of the season though. I know L'Rell and TyVoq are still in the mix, but their storyline has branched off from the original "Make Qo'Nos Great Again!" vibe.

Discovery has been really good the last few episodes. I'm really digging it. I also kinda guessed early on that Lorka was the mirror Lorka, based on the hint that Frakes gave at a con a few months ago.

I thought the Lorca twist was pretty predictable but still really well done.

"Can you keep a secret?" That was great.

They could go several directions now. Will be interesting to see where the journey goes.

On one hand Burnhams explanation of what Lorca is doing could be correct, but being "anti-Emperor" in the MU does not necessarily make him evil.

There is a different really big twist they can do which would be fun, not sure if they go there.

I'm wondering if he goes further back to Lorca's previous ship. Did the Prime Lorca or the Alt Lorca blow up his own crew? If Alt Lorca did it, was it just so he could get his hands on Discovery?

I thought all of these reveals were super obvious (badly hidden), but I've still really enjoyed these latest episodes and the series overall. It doesn't need twists for me to like the characters and the story.

Voq is Tyler: Voq disappeared from the series right when Tyler showed up, following L'Rell talking about her tribe of spies and deceivers (i.e., infiltrators) and telling Voq he would have to sacrifice everything. I was a bit surprised that it was supposed to be a twist; I honestly thought they were spelling it out.

MU: When the ship did that last jump at the episode cliffhanger right before they traveled to the MU, it had a mirror image reflection. Normally it appears to drop down when using the spore drive (right?), but that time it split in two and one went down and one went up.

Lorca is Mirror Lorca: The MU hint above made it way more likely. Lorca was acting suspicious before the jump to the MU, blew up his old crew to avoid capture (total MU move), and manually screwed with the jump coordinates right before the jump to the MU (it said "Lorca override" or something on the control panel).

By the way, I really do like Culber a lot and I'm a little sad he's dead. Although I guess he'll live on in the mycelial network and his relationship with Stamets will continue on there, until the painful moment when Stamets must destroy the network to save the universe (or at least Starfleet) and finally say goodbye.

That was great. All of it. I did not see that twist with Lorca coming.

Also, when Stamets got up off the table I first thought it was our Stamets occupying his double's body. Now that would have been interesting...

I really hope they release the show on UHD Blu-Ray. I'd definitely pick it up.
