Yes, you’ve already said that. And I’ve shared my Joe Koy story that I’m rather fond of.
So, SNL is has been on a long time. How long will it last? My prediction is that when Michaels retires the show will end, or attempt to go on without him and fail.

If technology didn’t exist, he wouldn’t have been fired from a television show.
Brilliant, unnamed New York comedian.

Ricky Gervais tweeted over the weekend that it's a comedian's job to joke about whatever they want."Please stop saying 'You can't joke about anything anymore.' You can. You can joke about whatever the f*** you like. And some people won't like it and they will tell you they don't like it. And then it's up to you whether you give a f*** or not. And so on. It's a good system," he wrote.
That's why I like this guy.

Shane Gillis returned to the stage for the first time since his firing from Saturday Night Live— and it wasn’t flowers and apologies. The controversial comedian — who was fired days after being hired when racist and homophobic slurs from his podcast, Matt and Shane's Secret Podcast, surfaced — took the stage Wednesday at The Stand NYC for a set. Audience-goers heard him joke about getting the ax from the NBC sketch comedy show, Asians and the hypothetical assassination of President Trump.“It’s been weird,” he said to the crowd, according to Variety, which said he got a warm reception during the show.
“Twitter has been f**king nuts. You try to stay off it when the whole f**king country hates you. That’s not a fun feeling as a human. Especially when you never get to say your side at all.”Discussing Lorne Michaels cutting him from SNL, Gillis said, "Everybody's like, 'You can't say sh** and not expect consequences,” according to USA Today. "I'm fine with the consequences — that's it, I'm not arguing. But I do want everyone to know that I have been reading every one of my death threats in an Asian accent

The clear implication is that you want to submit that SNL has already had an Asian-American cast member, and your cute Jo Koy story just reinforces that it is your intention.
I don't know what conversation you think you are not having.

I don't think his Samurai character was offensive at the time, now the bee suit was just plain wrong....

I just don't think Blues Brothers is watched by kids. They know the iconic appearance, but the movie? 2 1/2 hours, R-rated, without boobs? Lots of less-than spectacular '70s-era car crashes? Wall-to-wall soul music? I just don't think kids are into that. I know mine aren't.
Plus while I think it has some amazing scenes, most aren't really involving the Blues Brothers as much as the legends of Soul. And Belushi really isn't very funny in that movie. I can't imagine anyone new to his work watching The Blues Brothers and coming away feeling that the guy who plays Jake is a comedic genius.

I've been surprised by how many younger people have seen the movie, certainly more are watching BB than 1941.. you are correct BB is not comedic genius but neither is 1941 which was a flop, Animal houses is a cult classic and is one of his funnier movies...
Holy shit, just looked at the IMDB and he only has 13 acting credits. What a shame and a loss of talent.

The movie is utterly amazing. The music, the stars, the fun. It’s one of the music unique movies ever made. It’s competent as a comedy, a musical, and an action film. It has some amazing car chasing and crashing. How can you say less than spectacular? And it’s real. No cgi shit. For that reason alone its stunts hold up.

I watch those REACT videos on youtube, and one thing becomes apparent: Young people hardly know anything about popular culture outside of their own lifetimes, unless it has been forced upon them by their parents.
I am very confident that the average millennial might have "heard of" John Belushi and might be able to connect him to SNL. If they have ever seen any of his work, it would be Animal House, and I suspect even that would be a deep dive for anyone born after 1990.

I still think you are giving "yutes" too much credit.

My point was initially not the The Blue Brothers is a bad or obscure movie just not a very funny one, and especially not a terrific showcase for Belushi's comic genius
As an analogy : Dispite his dour, dry performances the past 20 years, kids can still appreciate Bill Murray as a hysterical comedian from Stripes, Ghostbusters, Meatballs, Caddyshack, Groundhog Day. It's a shame that Belushi had such a small amount of film work, but it's just as tragic that of those performances, only Animal House really captures his manic comedic energy and hints at how hysterically funny he actually was

And he’s barely in Animal House. He’s in like 10 minutes tops.
I think the Blues Brothers is (obviously) meant to showcase the other thing he was brilliant at, singing and putting on a show.
But take the restaurant scene. He’s hysterically funny in that. “HOW MUCH FOR THE LITTLE GIRL?”
