Re: Gangs of London -- co- created & directed by Gareth Evans (The Raid) -- Coming to AMC
I just got caught up through episode 8, which was posted last week. 9 is the newest one.
Holy shit. 8 was a fucking intense and scary episode. Those African thugs with those swords stormed into that office and hacked most of the employees. to shreds and cut off their hands. Wow.
This show doesn't let up on the violence. And it's 100% R-rated violence.
and then the shit that went down with the hit woman who tried to kill Sean and her torture.
I know most of you guys reading this haven't seen the show and are not sold on paying for another streaming service since this is exclusive to AMC+ So I understand that I may be talking to myself on this one.
But, this show is so good. I'm letting my Mother watch this and she loves it and cringes with all the sadistic violence. Yes, the violence in this show is pretty sadistic.
For the record, AMC+ does give you access to Sundance Now, IFC and Shudder, so do get more for your money than just 1 channel and 1 show. It was mentioned earlier in this thread.

Re: Gangs of London -- co- created & directed by Gareth Evans (The Raid) -- Coming to AMC
The season finale was just posted on Thursday night. I finished up the last 2 episodes.
Crazy last 2 episodes. A major character, who was the center of the show gets killed off . More people get hacked up, sadistically murdered and butchered. And the apparent "hero" of the show learns some new revelations.
and it ends on a sorta cliffhanger that definitely leaves more story potential open. It was a great 1st season. It's too bad that Cinemax passed on it as they fit their previous programming regime perfectly. And unfortunately it's on a paid streaming service that most of you don't subscribe to, so it's not going to get much attention. I don't think this could have aired on regular AMC in this form. It's way too bloody and violent. Advertisers probably wouldn't have supported it. This is R rated premium cable content.
Hope some of you will eventually give this a shot. This was a pretty awesome effort by Evans and his team to make a weekly scripted show like this.

I have to give Xavier Gens (Frontier(s)) & Corin Hardy (The Nun) credit as well.
Even though the series was created by Gareth Evans & his DP Matt Flannery, Gens & Hardy Directed 7 out of the 9 Episodes of the series.
Tremendous effort from everyone. Enjoyed every minute of this show.

Episodes 1-3 are on Prime, but looks like you have to have AMC+ to watch the rest, unless its on some sort of slow rollout

I’m halfway through this. The action and violence is top notch. The story isn’t really doing much for me.

Watched this over the last few days. The action is definitely as good as anything you'll find these days, as you'd expect with Gareth Evans involved, but yea, the story dragged. I couldn't help but screw around on my phone whenever the action paused.
Still, it's a quick watch and recommended for the action alone.

FYI, for those of you who did not watch this on AMC+, there was a promo tonight on The Walking Dead that said season 1 will air starting April 4th on AMC
I wonder if they will have to make some edits like cutting the language or if they will keep it as is? They drop F bombs like crazy in this series.

Heads up. This premieres tomorrow on regular AMC at 10:14pm after the finale of The Walking Dead.
Set your DVR if you're interested and didn't watch it early last year when it was on AMC+

Crap. Do I have to watch this now? I was so happy to get an hour of my week back when The Walking Dead concluded last night.
(and I know, I don't have to watch anything, the Off button on my remote works just fine)

Just watched the finale, on regular AMC. I don't know if anything was edited out for broadcast, it didn't seem like it, but if so it wasn't much because f-bombs and violence galore. Farm house raid, woo.
Yeah, the story wasn't anything great/new, but overall the show was entertaining and the action was great. Finale was a blood bath. I'm in for Season 2.

I had watched two episodes and was uncertain if I was continuing. Then last week I just decided to binge it before my AMC+ sub ran out. I found it a bit difficult to follow at times but if it comes back I'll be there. Certainly one of the most (if not the most) brutal and grisly shows I've seen. I compared two episodes (a middle episode and the finale) and they cut sex-related material from both for the AMC version.

For the record, it was picked up for a 2nd season and it's currently in production.

Red Band:
In a foreboding and high-octane trailer, AMC+ has announced the return of its lauded original series Gangs of London, which will debut its much anticipated second season on Thursday, November 17 with two episodes. The critically-acclaimed, award-winning drama became an international sensation in its first season, with its shocking yet artfully-choreographed action scenes and stunt work. Following the premiere, one episode of the eight-part season will debut Thursdays on AMC+, AMC Networks' premium streaming bundle.
In the second season, a new, darker era of chaos and turbulent power struggles comes to London. One year after the death of Sean Wallace and the violent reckonings of season one, the map and soul of the city has been redrawn - the surviving Wallaces are scattered, the Dumanis broken and estranged, and ex-undercover cop Elliot Finch (Ṣọpẹ́ Dìrísù, Humans, Mr. Malcolm's List) is now being forced to work for the Investors. As the Investors look down on a city sliding into chaos, they decide enough is enough and bring in reinforcements to restore control. Old favorites and new players fight back against the new order, forcing sworn enemies to work together and family members to betray each other.

I watched the 1st episode on AMC Plus tonight. 2 episodes dropped. The 1st episode is a little slow. There are some bloody kills and murders.
Elliot is now the focal point of the show. He's still undercover and doing some bad things. Looks like the plot seems focused on gun running and some psycho named Koba.
One character who I don't recall from the 1st season committed suicide.

Big reveal in episode 2. Although it is ridiculous:
I'm now on episode 3. 4 have been posted. I feel like so far, they have toned down the action and made this a more character based gangster drama. I don't think it's boring, but the pace is definitely slower. The violence so far has been mostly shootouts and sadistic torture. In episode 3, a guy gets his hand carved in half. Yes, carved in half.

Came upon this series just because I got the $1.99/mos for 2 mos promo on Prime. Love the 1st season. Bringing people back from the dead are not a good idea and wreaks of desperation. But anyway, the 2nd season isn't too bad. Better than any recent TWD episode I can remember (after Season 5 anyway).

I hope the 3rd season will be better again. The 2nd season was a massive let down from the fantastic debut season.

I need to finish the 2nd season. I think I got through 3 of the 8. But, I know it kind went off the rails when they brought back Sean from the dead. I need to get back and finish it.
Also, I thought I read somewhere that Gareth Evans left the show and wasn't involved with season 2.

Re: Gangs of London -- co- created & directed by Gareth Evans (The Raid) -- Coming to AMC
I finally finished the final 5 episodes of season 2 over the last few days. I know it's been awhile since it aired (late 2022)
Anyway, I didn't like it as much as season 1. It was more London gangster drama as opposed to the insane action/fight scene fest from season 1. It wasn't awful, but definitely disappointing. They were definitely missing Gareth Evans after he left to work on other projects. There was still some brutality and blood.
Elliott (the once undercover cop) was dumb for not killing Sean in the finale. It was already absurd that they brought him back from the dead in the 1st place.
