Weren't there some dead workers/guards in that place that the Romulan killed?

Yeah, probably. The guy who appeared on the Enterprise and gave La'an the time doohickey disappeared when the reality around her changed. Presumably Kirk's body would have disappeared, too, since once the past was changed back he never would have existed in the first place.

Or maybe Section 31 has his body. We just sort of assumed that they dug Kirk up on Veridian III, but maybe the body they were holding at Daystrom is the one died in 21st century Toronto.

In that instance, the whole reality changed except for her. In the other instance, she merely went back into the future of that same timeline.

One thing that was a little silly..... The time agent appeared casually in her quarters just relaxing in her chair waiting for her to come in. The agent was already aware that the correct timeline was restored. If these agents had that much time on their hands, they could have sent another agent to fix the timeline or another agent to appear right as the other agent was dying and get hold of the gadget. Why leave a mission that's so important in the hands of someone that wasn't trained or knowledgeable at all about the mission.

Didn't it have to be her since she could get into the compound with her hand print, or something like that? To weed out the Romulan.

Than they would have initially gone to her for help, rather than getting an agent killed first. An agent could have accompanied her too so it would have been a much simplier mission to complete.

The other thing is it didn't appear that Kirk could have won that much money playing chess, yet he seemed to splurge the winnings on a fairly large and costly hotel room instead of saying at a less expensive one in case they needed more money for later. That, and the hotel they went to was lax in asking for a photo id and a credit card to back up all incidental charges.
I thought the same thing regarding he money. I mean, sure, Toronto street meat is about $5 Canadian so he'd have enough for three hotdogs but a hotel? You know, then there's the "Vermont Taxi"...did some of his chess winnings come in US currency or do Taxis in Vermont take Canadian dollar? Wait, without ID, etc. how were they able to get over the Canadian border into Vermont and back.

Otherwise, great episode. :P

They did say they had to bribe the border guard.

And maybe it wasn’t shown but I can see Kirk doing more hustling for more money.

I totally gotta' try bribing border guards on my next U.S. visit and there are totally random Trans Canada Highway chess playing setups to gain at least, what...what might a border guard take to smuggle two people into the country? I want an entire episode of Kirk hustling chess games from Canadians outside of highway Tim Hortons. I mean, if he thought the Toronto hotdogs were good (they are NOT) wait until he tries Timbits!

I am finally catching up on this season after a move. The courtroom episode was on par with other courtroom episodes, and this one was a bit too lighthearted for two people who suddenly find themselves a couple hundred years in the past and have no idea what, if any, timeline they may return to. La'an's breakdown at the end got me, though.
