I watched the first two episodes today and wow, I am impressed.

Great story, great animation, the story picks up so very well. It's amazing how many of the original cast came back, and the actors who have taken up the mantle of some characters after the original voice actors passed away are doing a great job. Yes, I enjoyed the original series, but these two episodes have so much more depth than many of the originals did and I think if these two are any indicator of what's to come, we're in for a real treat.

While the X-Men have been an allegory for a variety of minority persecutions since their beginnings in 1963, there is something different about it this time around. Maybe it's because I was a young teenager in the 90s when the original run happened and the Civil Rights movement seemed like "forever" ago, but I counted at least 3-4 very clear allusions to current events and issues from the last 3-5 years in a way that was so blatant that it made me feel what it must have been like to read X-Men in the midst of the Civil Rights movement. Because this isn't in Politics, I'll leave it there, except to say they are handling all of that very well so far and it elevates the entire series.

Because I essentially "aged out" of the last few seasons of original series, and I have a foggy memory of the original series beyond the first season. I figured Professor X had been assassinated in-between the original and the new series. And I was pleasantly surprised to see Morph in this, considering he died in the second episode of the original series. However, I need absolutely zero people to tell me that no, he was assassinated in the final episode or that Morph returned. I decided to take my questions and be proactive to satisfy my curiosity. I am an adult who is perfectly capable of doing an internet search for my basic questions and I respect all of you enough that I won't bother wasting your time and energy so you can do my emotional lifting for me.

I don't think ever watched much of the original version of this back in the 90s, but would I be wrong in assuming that the original character "Morph" is there only so they can drop in characters like Psylocke and Colossus who aren't part of the regular team?

No. He was integral to the storyline for the first two seasons. Colossus makes his own appearance and I think Psylocke does too but not 100% sure.

Do the X-Men think he's dead? I read the synopsis for the last episode of the original series but I can't remember if I ever saw it. I thought this new series made it seem like the world thinks he's dead but the X-Men know he's not.

eh...him/his writers are pretty insightful on their videos. So I still appreciate the channel. A lot of good background info. And nothing too crazy. I like his delivery style too. I don't know why but the new rockstars guy gets on my nerves.

Wow episode 3 was seriously dark. And a bit graphic compared to the OG animated series. It was awesome. I thought it was funny they showed Jubilee splitting a demon's brain in half but had Wolverine say heck instead of hell.

Glad they didn't prolong the whole who's the Jean clone storyline.

Watching that, it occurs to me that I watched less of the X-Men: TAS than I thought I did. The only story I remember is the first one with Jubilee and the Sentinels at the mall. This was on Saturday mornings, and I was a teenager at the time, and spent my Friday nights out raising hell, so it's unsurprising that I didn't stick with it.

That said, it seems like the series was mostly a repurposing of the Uncanny X-Men comics' greatest hits. Throw them in a box, shake it up, and see what comes out. Looks like they kept a mostly stable line-up of characters, unlike the comic, where members would come and go quite often.

Just give me more X-men '97 for the next 10 years.

I've watched these three episodes more times than I watched the original X-men films.

One thing I hate about modern day TV is how few episodes there are and how long it is in between seasons. That goes doubly when there is a cartoon like this 10 episodes is exceptionally short.
