The forum login is linked with the game (so when you post it's your character's name, level and realm that is shown). "Neat" idea but it's a real pain in the ass... I can lurk but hardly post because the login server is down often.
And yes, there's this problem now with logging into the game, it's been 4 hours now.
Oh well, I'll just go and wash my dishes

yeah.
i've never been able to post and always wondered why.
so when you post and are asked to enter your login/password, you should be entering the same login/password you use to play WoW right?
so how are other people able to post?

yeah, you use your account name/password. when you do that, you can choose which character you want to use (switchable) if you have more than one character.
i could finally login around midnight EST. it's bad that i was getting a angry about not being able to login. i may be addicted.
is there a better forum than WoW? or another recommended one? i found allakazam.com.
--
also, i installed FFXI yesterday, and tried playing it a little bit. very early impression is that WoW is much better - at least in terms of interface.

I was very pissed too.
I don't always have time to play, but was able to set aside a few hours last night to play and found that I couldn't.
I'm disappointed in blizzard. This seems like EQ1 all over again.
The server seems to go down at least once a week.
The reliability/stability is not up to blizzard's usual standards.

Good news...we all get another free day:
During the holiday season, World of Warcraft has experienced unprecedented popularity. We're continuing to ramp up server capacity, but in the meantime, we've seen some issues in regard to the game servers as a direct result of the extremely high traffic. Specifically, on December 22, many players were unable to access the game for approximately seven hours.
In our efforts to provide the best game experience possible, we will address this issue by automatically extending the trial period of all players who created an account on or before December 22 (11:59 PM PST) for an additional day. This will be in addition to the extension awarded previously: http://www.worldofwarcraft.com/news/...html#extention.
We recognize that the holidays are an opportune time for gaming, and we're grateful that so many players have made World of Warcraft their game of choice this holiday season. As always, we appreciate your patience and support, and we wish you good luck in your adventures in Azeroth!

That's GREAT news. I too had a big chunk of time set aside that night to play. I was so frustrated about the server downtime, but this makes it better.
Now I only hope I can get another evening sometime soon to play. I'm traveling for Xmas and had to leave the computer at home. I miss my WoW.

someone help me... i can't stop playing WoW!!! i didn't think any game would bring me back to the pc, but WoW has done just that.
very nicely designed game - characters, art, music, ambience, etc. and it's got that all too critical... plain good old fun factor.

i'm an 18th level night elf hunter now... and i just did my first quest foray into a PvP enabled zone... and i was kind of scared! i'm not sure if that's a good thing or not - certainly adds to the emotional range, but i don't want to be worrying about uber powerful horde guys just killing me for fun.
i created another character on a Role Playing (RP) server to see if that's better. although, i'm not quite sure if there's a significant difference between a PvE and an RP server.
question about items that are bound... what does that mean? i found out that a Soulbound item can't be mailed (and i assume, traded) to another player.
also, i could've sworn there was a Guild person in Darssanus (?), the night elf home, but i can't seem to find it. am i mistaken?
--
few tips that i found useful:
1. hold down both mouse buttons to move. my "W" finger was getting a callous
2. you have multiple hotkey icon bars at the bottom. i created a combat line, and a secondary skill line (cooking, fishing, leatherworking).
3. develop the professions. i had ignored skinning/leatherworking, but i realize that they're quite useful in reinforcing my armor and in generating money.
4. you can mail money/items to friends.

not sure how RP's are have less "d00dz" b/c i saw some of that while playing on Ring World (?) server. (sorry, too many names for me to remember right now.) how are the rules enforced? i see names like Bigass and i thought those would be not allowed.

I agree with Gamespot's assessment of WoW winning Game of the Year! I have a PC, Gamecube, Xbox, PS2, and GBA SP. Halo 2 was a blast - I finished it on legendary and played more than 200 games on Xbox Live, but I don't see myself playing it much more. I honestly can say that WoW will be the only game I play for the foreseeable future. I bought it a week ago and already I have played it for more than 40 hours! I can't get enough of it!
I am thoroughly addicted. I almost regret putting so much money into my HDTV and surround sound system for my console gaming, because I see myself playing only WoW for the foreseeable future. Good thing WoW has such low PC system requirements. I am running it on a 1.5Ghz P4, 1 GB RAM, and a Nvidia GeForce4 Ti4200 w/64MB RAM (this is a budget video card I bought 2 years ago for $90). The game runs perfectly at 1280x1024. Detail settings are set pretty high, but not maxed - I haven't bothered to increase them from the default. I should try it sometime; but I've been too busy playing the game to test out the settings, haha.
BTW, I am a human warlock, level 20 on the Windrunner realm. Character name is Mirya

Another hit for Blizzard it looks like - been sampling the different character classes and found each to be enjoyable playing - Warrior, Druid, Shaman and Warlock so far have been fun. The talent trees add an extra dimension to the strategy which I like, as you can have two totally different builds of the same character class (e.g., maxxing your points in Arms vs Protection as a Warrior).

Xmas finally came and i got two copies of Wow, will have to return one and trade it for a couple 60 day cards. I'm playing a Troll Hunter on Cenerias so i can find Groucho's gnome and kill him. He's under level 6, right?
I'm finally leaving the newbie zone and loving it. Anyone on in my realm, look for Glowmer the troll.

When the game first launched, the servers were broken out by time zone. Blizzard quickly abandoned this idea, so now it's a crapshoot as to what time zone your world will be in.
There are UI mods out there that allow you to display a clock and adjust the time to fit your local zone.
Here's the one I use:
Clock: This is a clock that shows you the server time in a small window at the top of the screen. The window can be dragged wherever you want and, when you hover over it with your mouse, you'll get a tooltip with quite a bit of time-based information, including estimated time to level, your current speed, etc. This mod is also in Cosmos, with easier-to-use configuration. New: This version adds a number of command line options that give you control over the Clock's behavior. Option settings and the window position are persisted between sessions. Type /clock or /clock help once installed for a list of options. >
To install, simply download the zip file and unzip it into your World of Warcraft directoy. Make sure that the directories in the zip are recreated on unzip. The files should end up in <your World of Warcraft directory>\Interface\AddOns\<mod name>.

Question: I got my troll hunter up to level 8 or 9 now, when can i get a pet?
I think i did a quest out of order because i died 4 or 5 times taking down some quillbacks who were level 8 to 10 but after that did a mission where the human sailors were only around level 6. Is there a way to tell the difficulty of quest so i know what order i should do them in?

Your hunter will be able to train a pet at level 10.
You can tell the difficulty of quests based on their color:
Grey = Way below your level, least amount of XP
Green = below your level, some xp
Yellow = at your level, decent xp
Orange = above your level, good xp
Red = way above your levle, most amount of xp
Additonally, they appear in your log in order of difficulty (but seperated by zone).
Quests marked as (Elite) are even harder, and for the most part require a group.

Ok, i think i mostly have green but also have a couple orange. Atleast one of the green is pretty hard. the mobs i can take one at a time and if i get a few shots in before melee but if i get double teamed, i die fast.
