Head on over there. They'll ask you some troubleshooting Qs before you get to the exchange process. It's relatively painless, though.

Wasn't overly wild about the Buffett song, but was delighted to hear his "shout out" for RB during "Volcano". Figured he'd do something like that as he always plays with those lyrics.

My drums that I purchased in April have a cracked yellow pad, so I'm going to try to exchange them at the store first before sending them back to EA next week.

Agreed. That shout out totally made the song for me.

Rock Band is covered by a 60 warranty policy that allows you to get a replacement for a malfunctioning peripheral. You will need to provide a provide a copy of a valid receipt to demonstrate that you are within 60 days of purchase in order to take advantage of the replacement policy.
When to Get a Replacement
In cases where a peripheral malfunctions either out-of-the-box or during normal gameplay and cannot be fixed through standard troubleshooting, the warranty policy allows you to request a replacement item. Most any issue that is not caused by abuse or misuse of the game will be covered by this policy.
How to Setup an RMA
There are a few ways to send in your replacement request to us. The primary and easiest way is through the Rock Band Warranty site which is available 24-hours every day. This page will walk you through troubleshooting and then, if the peripheral is still not working, will allow you to request a RMA so that you can get a replacement. You will then be contacted to provide proof that you are within the 60 day warranty period, and once this is verified your RMA will be shipped out to you.

Looks like my RMA just made it under the wire.

Argh. Maybe I'll have to call. I submitted a replacement request for only the drums and got this email:

Wow, I just got a replacement guitar sent to me last week. It wouldn't have mattered, because I'm in the 60 day window, but c'mon. These peripherals SUCK! If I had been able to see into the future and had seen them no longer taking care of their customers who purchase their defective product, I would NOT have purchased Rock Band.

The stupid thing is that people are just going to end up rebuying the game, photocopying the receipt and then returning it later.
Well, that's one stupid thing. The other being the fact that none of my instruments worked perfectly from day one.

I'm tempted to try and take the RB Special Edition back to Sam's Club. I really DON'T want to deal with this. I wish I had read up a bit more before purchasing RB. I knew that the guitar felt "cheap", but I had no idea the peripherals were so prone to breakage. Don't get me wrong: I am loving RB, but I'd perhaps rather wait for Guitar Hero. Grrrr, damn EA!

Agreed. I know all video games have a "90 day limited warranty", but most of them are disk only, and if they're defective, you can usually discover that within 90 days. Doesn't most "hardware" like you might buy at Best Buy have a 1 year warranty? It wouldn't be that bad if the hardware wasn't admitted to be crap quality. They've been good so far, and not sticking to their official policy till now, but that policy is not suitable for products of this quality.
I know drums are sold by themselves now, but it doesn't look like the guitar is?

Yeah, wish I would've sent my drums in long ago, now. Problem is, I've only used them 5-6 hours probably, and let my brother borrow them a month ago, he said a couple weeks ago they were starting to act up.
I shouldn't have been lazy and sent them in while I knew they would be accepted, but it's kind of like I'm being penalized for not using them enough - if I had used them like crazy the first few months, I would have noticed problems faster and had them replaced for sure. But I guess that's kind of the case with any product.

Political Exile
I knew a good thing like this wouldn't last, so I was quick to send in my guitar and most recently my drum pedal. If something breaks going forward, I start saving up for Guitar Hero IV. I may have to consider cutting down on my downloads though, don't want to sink too much money into a non-warranteed product.

I did this mod, and now my drums work basically 100% (the drummer, on the other hand, works far less than 100% of the time).
It is kind of annoying having to mod these instruments to get them to work better though. Red Octane isn't any better unfortunately. So far I've:
- Fixed a non-functional up-strum on a Les Paul
- Fixed the detachable neck connectivity problem on two Les Pauls
- Removed the clickers on two Les Pauls
- Fixed my Rock Band drums with the penny/nickel mod
I'm also planning on doing one of the noise-reduction mods for the drums.
One of my Les Pauls also has a non-fixable (at home, at least) problem where if you down strum + GR, it will register as a down strum + GRY. Unfortunately, I didn't figure this out until after the warranty ran out, since it wasn't the one I normally use.
