Semi-related: Since I don't have wireless on this 360 yet, I was going to hook up a USB drive to play some movies I have. I tried a WD Passport (albeit a 60GB drive that was formerly the PS3 drive when I swapped it out) and it does not work. The drive has been formatted to FAT32. I wonder if it is a power issue with the 360. I tried the front and rear USB port and multiple cables and still no luck. It's not a big deal at this point, but I would like for it to work. I know my 512MB USB drive worked...and I update to NXE using that.
I recommend formatting the HD to HFS+. This format is the only format ironically that the XBOX recognizes with files over 4gigs. If you are a Windows only person, like myself, MacDrive will help you do the job.

Re: The Official Xbox 360 thread - thread hardest

Ok, I picked up a wireless adapter today. Had some Best Buy gift cards and they price-matched WalMarts online price of $76.96....not bad, not great either...but it was instant gratification. Now, another problem I have.

I have a Linksys WRT-54G on my main floor in the back of the house. The XBOX with the wireless is on the second floor. I was able to get the 360 to connect to my network, but it was only at 1 RED bar. I tried streaming some video from my PC and it was choppy and basically unwatchable....to the point where it would not even play at times.

Any suggestions to fix this? Do I need like a middle man to help boost the signal? Would a better wireless router work? I could reposition my current router, which would take some work since I would have to re-run all my wires going to it. It currently sits next to my computer, kind of behind my monitor. I have a hutch on my computer desk and I could put it on top of the hutch, would that help possibly? I may need some longer Cat-5 cable since I have a few things wired to it currently.

Re: The Official Xbox 360 thread - thread hardest

Just noticed a good change to the NXE. Every time I want to play something off Netflix (which is a lot for my little boy who loves the PBS stuff), I've had a blue screen asking me to select from "Play Now" and "Download Again", idiotically. Today, finally, it actually just launched into Netflix. Don't know if it was a stealth update or a fluke.

Fluke. When I first started using netflix like that it worked that way, now it downloads something almost every time It's much better on my LG 390, but the quality on the 360 is better.

Depending on which version your WRT54G is, you could flash a 3rd party firmware (I use DD-WRT firmware on mine). Then you can increase the signal power. Make sure you know what you're doing though, because you don't want to brick your router.

I started looking at that. I'm on V5 for the WRT-54G. I think the only thing I could really take advantage of is the TRANSMIT POWER, but I am afraid to brick my router and having to reset everything also.

My first option is to move my router from behind my monitor to on top of my hutch.

I have a second option of moving my router closer to my downstairs TV, but then I would need a wireless card in my PC, and not sure if I would want my main PC wireless. Plus, my main PC sits in a cabinet (open to the rear and I usually leave the front open when operational.

My setup is this: Router/Modem/PC all close to each other. Long 50FT ethernet cable from router to my 360 downstairs. PS3 nxt to my 360 downstairs is wireless. 360 upstairs is wireless and suffering.

Proposed setup would be to move my router next to my 360/PS3 downstairs. I would then run the 50ft ether from router to modem. Then the 360/PS3 would be hardwired from router. Now the PC would either have to be wireless or I would have to get a switch or something using that 50FT cable...not sure how that would work also, since that is the main connection.

***EDIT***
Anyone use one of those range booster antenna's? I see DLINK (ANT24-0700)makes one and they are rather cheap on EBAY.
I guess I will know more later after I move my router a bit higher. I'm probably moving it like 3 feet higher...not sure if that should make a dramtic difference, might be less interference though.

***EDIT 2***
Anyone use a WD MyBook with their 360? If I cannot get wireless to work, I may just use an external drive to copy files to so my wife can watch her shows on it. I know my 60GB USB drive did not work (It was the old PS3 HDD that I put in the WD PAssport case).

Re: The Official Xbox 360 thread - thread hardest

I have a range booster antenna, and my connection is much stronger. My wireless router is on the upper floor of my house, and my xbox is essetially 2 floors lower and I've been running smoothly since plugging in the booster on the lower floor.

Major says the first round of preview emails will go out sometime after 3pm Pacific. That's 2.67ish () - 3 hours at the earliest.

I accounted for the delay in people actually reading my post, thankyouverymuch.

I updated my post to be more accurate at the time of posting.

Can you format HFS+ via Windows Vista or do you need a 3rd party software? I'll look more when I get home...just curious.

Thanks.

Kick-ass Forza 3 Collector's Edition

Nothing revolutionary about what's included(exclusive cars, keychain, USB drive), but the presentation makes up for it.

I probably won't get in because I haven't turned my Xbox on for a month except to get the serial number to sign up.

I love how they do this simply to reduce load on the servers on 8/11 and make it seem all elite.

Exactly and by setting it up this way the people who are most interested and vocal on the forums will be the ones to get in early when it is an easier download.

Genius really - but if it does benefit us.
