Guess I'll have to start over. That should be fun and not at all extra annoying.
How can you disagree? You were wondering at what point in the game you get to play as her and I told you. You can't disagree with a fact.

you're right, as i just picked up and played the first bits and quit due to time. fantastic opening and found myself easily in the swing of things again both figuratively and literally.

man, does this look good in HD!

Your fact is different than his.

Seems that if you start the game after installing the Catwoman DLC, you get her little intro at the very beginning of the main campaign. If you didn't download the DLC, you don't, or you get it later after downloading it.

That's all I was saying. Being snarky without an overt "" causes confusion. Also my fever dreams today haven't helped.

Just overheard a couple thugs chatting about Lost. "So did we ever find out what the island was?"

Re: Batman: Arkham City Thread

Loved the chat about the guys mom. Went something like this

Spoiler:

Thug 1: We got this locked up like my mom on prom night
Thug 2: Locked up? I want to hear this
Thug 1: Look, we got bigger things to worry about, what if batman took out the penguin, what are we going to do
Thug 2: Maybe we can call your mom
Thug 1: Don't go there
Thug 2: Oh come on, your mom was the town bicycle, admit it
Thug 1: Fine, if you must know, my mom got a little too drunk for her prom....
Thug 2: Oh yeah.
Thug 1: And she murdered everyone at the prom
Thug 2: Wow.

Probably not verbatim as I can't remember it completely, but the gist is still there.

Seriously, the chatter is driving me nuts. It is totally making the game a whole lot less fun to play. Where's Morgan Freeman to blow up this listening device when you need him?

The Arkham games are similar to Metroid in that you need to get the proper gadget then backtrack to pick up the stuff you missed.

The only two things you ever truly need detective mode for is 1) finding which thugs have guns and 2) following trails of DNA/blood/whatever.

So, I feel that the complaints are pretty silly since it's an optional feature that only makes things easier.
We will agree to disagree. It worked for you, I'm happy it worked out.

I've yet to pop in my copy... but I'm shocked at how divisive the gameplay is for some people. I'm not saying anyone is right or wrong -- it's just pretty amazing that this game, which seemed it could do no wrong, is actually being bitched about.

I've grown to really like it. It reminds me of Mass Effect. Maybe it would have been better for you if it wasn't linked to the radio, so you would have to be near people to hear them talk, but I'm getting a kick out of the conversations.

ETA: It looks like I will see if I like the beginning chapters of the game better now that I'm familiar with the game, as I've lost my save. =(

Well, just so you know, most of the stuff that comes up in DM you can see if you just try your grappling hook. You'll see the little yellow circle on things you can manipulate.

Re: Batman: Arkham City Thread

There are Riddler's Challenges involving viewing giant "?"s that require detective mode to see at all.

Anyone who's played further : Do the Catwoman sequences get better? I just did the first extened one (besides the opening bit) and didn't really care for it. It's like she does everything Batman does, but not as well and without all those cool gadgets. She has a nice more fluid movement which I like (plus "thief vision" which is absurd) and she's easy on the eyes, but she really feels unnecessary and is pretty useless in a fight (so far). She gets better, right? I really don't want to spend my upgrade points on her when she's so little of the game.

And for anyone who's still early in the game, here's IGN guide to an easy and wacky early achievement (just after your first encounter with Joker)

There's a map that shows you where every last Riddler Challenge is, so again, you don't need to walk around in Detective Mode to find everything.

Re: Batman: Arkham City Thread

This game is a blast.

Im not a video game person, this is my first 1st day purchase since SOTE for 64. I like to take my time, I hate hearing these people pay 60 just try to be the first one done in a couple of hours. Im over 6 hours in and only 6% done. But Im also sitting here with my kids going over every little damn detail, so that slows me down some.

Compared to AA this game is hard and confusing at first. AA you started in a hallway basically, AC well you could go anywhere. But after you play for awhile and get use to it, it becames super fun.

Why didnt they just get Jason Statham to be Penguin? That would have made this game best game ever.

Because it's sort of a video game rule that you have to use Nolan North to do at least one of your voices if you're making an AAA-title game this generation.

To be fair, he's been doing that since before he hit it big with Uncharted.

First, Decker you couldn't have been more on time if you tried with this vid. Because of having to restart, I was at that exact moment (I was on the com with Alfred) after having encountered Joker. This is a really easy thing to miss, and I'm glad I got to start it because it's cool as shit! Thanks for posting that!

Second, I totally agree with you on the Catwoman stuff. I only have done the first main chapter of Selina's side myself, and while the character model is amazing, playing as Catwoman leaves a little something to be desired. Having played as Robin in the challenge map, I sort of wish he was the second character you played as. For obvious reasons, he feels very much like Batman -- only extra ninja-ey.

I had no idea that was Nolan North. The dude is pretty talented to pull off that voice, because I was sure it was this guy:

I want to look at a list of the voice actors for this game (I've been really interested in that stuff since BTAS), but I can't because I don't want to know all who is in the game. The voices I have heard have been pretty excellent so far, if not a bit different than what I was expecting. I did feel one voice was a bad choice:

Spoiler:
The voice of Rhas Al Ghul felt too young, and he didn't sound regal enough

Everything else, though, has been close to, if not, exceptional voice work wise.

Re: Batman: Arkham City Thread

Was going to wait until after I moved to dive into this. I started it last night, thinking I'd just check out the start of it and then head to bed. Next thing I knew, it was almost 1am and I'd been playing for several hours. This game is awesome, but a bit overwhelming. There's definitely going to be a learning curve (or maybe a "remembering curve") with all the things Batman's able to do and all the tasks to be completed.

And the chatter is really fucking annoying.

Re: Batman: Arkham City Thread

My current setup is the following:

Microsoft Windows 7 Professional 64-bit
Corsair High Perform Vengeance 16GB (4 × 4GB) DDR3 1600MHz RAM
Intel(R) Core(TM) i5 CPU 750 @ 2.67GHz
XFX Radeon HD 6850 Black Edition 1GB DDR5 PCIe
Asus P7H55-M PRO
Aerocool PGS Qx-2000

Will I be able to run CPU based PhysX reasonably well while playing Batman: Arkham City?

Could you also run CPU based PhysX on Batman: Arkham Asylum or was that one exclusively GPU based?

I think it's GPU based. NVIDIA exclusive of course.
