A lot of thoughts on game, ending, hidden stuff, and then inevitable third game:

Spoiler:

1.) I loved the game, and unlike most here I felt the beginning as Bruce was a great surprise. I expected to begin as Batman but entering 'hell' with Bruce was a pretty smart move.

2.) I understand why people feel the way they do about this game at first. I was VERY overwhelmed with the size and scope of Arkham City. If I played it over now though I'm sure that feeling would be gone. I think this is one of those games that are better played numerous times to take everything in.

3.) I don't like how MANY of the battles pretty much forced us to eliminate stealth completely and fist fight a dozen or so guys. Specifically, when fighting numerous thugs with weapons.

4.) TONS of clues about the next game.

A. Killer Croc is still hunting Batman
B. Bane was left locked up by Batman. If you go back as Catwoman he'll try and convince her to let him out.
C. Scarecrow was conducting a fear experiment in the boat at the dock, which a letter in the boat proves was funded by C. Falcone.
D. Return to Joker's office and Harley's costume from the first game is hanging up, with a 'positive' pregnancy test laying beside it.
E. Alfred refused to help Bruce find Talia.
F. Azrael told Batman that Gotham is next, but Gotham and Batman would burn in the fire.

5.) Now, I hated the ending, probably because I called it on another forum last year in a thread about Ras being at the morgue in the first game. Hugo Strange was a puppet, which I don't like, and bringing him back and killing him off is highly questionable. Ra's and Talia die, but could easily return via the L. pits. Joker is the big question mark, with Hamill wanting to retire from the roll numerous times.

5.) Some of my favorite qoutes!

"and did it really end in a church!" - Joker
"Wait, did they ever explain what the island really was?" - random thug
"What will they think of calling it next? Big Ass Arkham World?" - thug at museum.
There was another one I can't fully remember from the two guys standing in front of the elevator at Joker's hideout, talking about sticking cake down his mom's throat.

6.) WTF was that with Robin? He shows up to help Batman against Talia's thugs and then gets ordered off. Batman told him "I know where to find you". Robin just kind of vanishes after this? And having no satellite batcave in the game doesn't seem like something Bruce would overlook!
Those clues are AWESOME (especially D)! I missed a lot of that stuff. Good finds.

One thing about this game that drives me CRAZY? Ok, nerd mode activate -- Batman would never allow his team to use their real names on the radio, yet Oracle refers to Batman as Bruce, and Bruce calls her Barbara repeatedly. Batman don't get down like that. Nerd mode.....power down.

I always get frustrated when the "worlds greatest detective" does things like this, or is outsmarted all the time by everyone around him with obvious traps, and tricks...only to use muscle to get out of it...

Am I the only one here who ran into a total brick well when you had to (just a spoiler involving the use of a batarang)

Spoiler:
throw your remote batarang through electricity before having it hit the switch in the sewer section where you where making ice rafts? For some reason I totally missed the game clueing me on to the electricity coming from the cable, and must have thrown 30 batarangs before I realized my mistake. And felt like a proper idiot after.

Re: Batman: Arkham City Thread

is there ever a use for the techniques they want you to learn in advanced augmented reality training. seems like one of the most pointless parts of a game that seems big for big's sake. wish the side missions had a few more ties into the story, instead of just introducing random villains.

feels like infamous in the batman world. although infamous had much better controls.

Re: Batman: Arkham City Thread

Finished the story proper last night. In the end I think it's all over the place when compared to it's predecessor. Still really well done, a bunch of fun, and some really neat aspects, but nowhere near as cohesive or enjoyable as a whole experience then Arkham Asylum for me. (And the Catwoman forced integration sections were pretty terrible IMO.)

Any link for a walkthrough?

I usually want to know how far in the game I'm in. But yesterday I got stuck really early in the game, trying to find Mr. Freeze, basically I didn't remember a move I was suppose to do in those situations. I'm playing FIFA, Gears and B:AC at the same time, so I forget some moves some times.

Already Google it but couldn't find anything useful.

That always bothered me in the original game too, especially with how Riddler was listening in. In the comics though, Riddler does know Batman is Bruce
Wayne, so I guess it wasn't a huge deal, but if Riddler was listening in who knows who else might have been as well.

Also how about the beginning of AC when Bruce is kicking all kinds of ass while handcuffed. Okay we have a rich spoiled playboy and he is suddenly kicking all kinds of ass in Arkham City moments before Batman appears, and nobody is suspicious?

I'm the same way. I'm quite a few hours into the game, and I believe it shows my progress at about 30%, but I have to think that's 30% of all of the unlockables/items/etc.

I just beat Mr. Freeze and am on my way to The Joker to save Mr. Freeze's wife, but I have no idea how far along I am in the storymode.

Overall, I love the game. The only downside is that the game is so huge that I easily get lost when I'm trying to get from Point A to Point B.

for those that finished, what is the % complete of story mode or everything that can be done and found prior to doing challenge maps?

Re: Batman: Arkham City Thread

Is there any way for the game to show you how many hours you put into it? I looked at the stats and save file, but haven't seen anything like that yet.

I completed the game somewhere in the 40-45% range. I missed a lot of sub missions though, including most of the Riddler stuff.

You have to walk around on the ledge for a few seconds before Batman actually mentions that they batarangs can hold an electric charge. Same annoying 'walk around and wait' while trying to identify firing positions for Deadshot.

Also on the ending: Tonight I noticed ...
Spoiler:

Ra's is gone from the fence if you re-explore the area after the credits, similar to how he vanished if you rechecked the morgue in AA. My guess is Talia was removed also, probably by the LOShadows, hence why Batman carried Joker out of Arkham City and not a dead Talia.

Watch the last Batman/Joker scene carefully. Batman clearly blacks out and wakes up with the cure in his hand. I'd bet anything Rocksteady shot it that way so they could bring Joker back if they want, ala Clayface. Keep in mind Paul Dini had Clayface play dead in The Animated Series.

* It should also be noted that Arkham City has a major plot hole. In AA Batman could use detective vision and scan Clayface. He showed up with no bones. How would that of all things get past Batman and have him confuse Clayface for the Joker in Arkham City?

Re: Batman: Arkham City Thread

to get the final riddler hostages, you have to get 400 of the 440 challenges/trophies, right? i assumed it would open up when you got all the batman trophies, but no dice.

Hey, you're giving me too much credit. I'm a bigger idiot than you realize. I heard Batman say the batarang could hold an electrical charge, and I STILL didn't figure it out.

And just an FYI, I really like the redesigns of most of the Batman characters, but they made Deadshot look like an idiot. His redesign was totally unnecessary.

Re: Batman: Arkham City Thread

I realized that the Augmented Reality Trainings had only 8 total and not the 32 I was thinking..lol...when I heard there were 8 total, I thought each one was made up of 4 tests..I thought they would be hard, but besides one, I was able to do the final 4 first time....one of them though, took like 20 times...

Re: Batman: Arkham City Thread

Drats. Looks like this might be the last game in the franchise. Arkham Asylum has only sold a measly 2 million copies in its first week of release. What a letdown, Rocksteady. How about you guys try harder next time.

Just in case:

Will the next one be Arkham Planet, or will they jump ahead to Arkham Universe?

Just finished up the last riddler hostage thing. I think I'm done. I don't have much interest in the challenge maps. Probably time to sell this sucker back to Best Buy and get like $45 in trade in value.

Re: Batman: Arkham City Thread

Beat this game last night and... Very nicely done. I loved it.

Still...

Spoiler:
Having the one last Catwoman stage after the credits is a kick in the dick. I'd like to just go back through as Batman and work on the side missions. Having one last go-round with Catwoman stealthing around wiping out goons and Two-Face is really annoying. After doing most of the ending stuff in Wonder Tower I was just about ready to check out and shut my brain off for side stuff.

I'll quit pissing my pants over this and just get it done today.

There's a billion different Riddler trophies I have to get yet. I didn't have the patience to get all these things with the last game and I don't know that I'll go hog wild with it this time.

Only time I really got frustrated with the game was with Freeze. Even the mass thug battles and fights with Ra's, Mad Hatter, and Clayface were relatively simple by the end. The skulking around to beat Strange's goons was very exhilarating.

Great, great game.
