Heads up, I think Shovel Knight controls and plays a lot better using the Wii-mote wand rather than the tablet/pad thingy. (I don't have a pro controller, so wouldn't know about that)

Given it's supposed to emulate an NES game experience, I bet the Pro Controller would be better than the tablet, too.

Stupid question, but does Shovel Knight support off-tv play? That's become one of my favorite features of the Wii U...

Not a stupid question! It does support off-TV play.

Re: The Wii U: From "cool" Sony to evil Nintendo

The tablet does allow you to pick your power-up in Shovel Knight on the fly though, so that's kinda neat.

I'm halfway through it now, and while it's getting tougher and tougher, it hasn't made me rage-quit yet or anything. It's just so fun! And the music is fantastic! But, the tunes sound a bit too "futuristic" for the game's setting. That's probably becuause the original music composer for the old Mega Man games co-wrote some of the songs, and they do sound similar.

Rumors are that the sequel will be called "Super Shovel Knight" and will look like a 16-bit game, ala SNES.

Re: The Wii U: From "cool" Sony to evil Nintendo

I finally got around to picking up Mario Kart for the free game promotion.

I scratched off my $50 eShop card that I picked up at Best Buy around seven months ago, enter the code, and when I click to add $50 funds, I get a fail message displayed on my Wii U. I call up Nintendo and they said that the card had not been activated. I had to email nintendo my console serial number, a copy of my order email, and a screenshot of the back of my eshop card. Then they will add the $50 directly to my account.

I bought 3 $50 eshop cards on sale back then, and the other two worked, but it's still a hassle to deal with this one.

While I was poking around their site, I did a bunch of Club Nintendo surveys to get to Platinum status for the year that ends today. It should be interesting to see what free gifts I'll receive.

I also cashed out some coins for a free Mario Party 2, but I could not get the code to work on the WiiU eshop. Perhaps it only works on the Wii side of the system?

Logged into the Digital Deluxe page the other day (first time since launch). I forgot all about it. I had managed to cobble together enough points for a $5 credit. Not only that the free digital game that came with Mario Kart was eligible for another $5. Not bad.

Re: The Wii U: From "cool" Sony to evil Nintendo

I have this urge to buy a wii u. My wii was only used for zelda and mario galaxy, but there is a growing number of Wii U games that are grabbing my attention, and of course the next zelda game will be mine. My only hold up is the fact that I honestly feel the price will drop another hundred by the end of the year. Am I wrong? I would hate to buy a system that really won't get a lot of use till next year just to see if fall another 100 bucks right after.

Why not just buy a $200 refurb? I don't think they'll be down to $100 anytime soon.

yeah I thought about that, but even though many are actually getting new units, and there is a one year warranty, I hate buying refurbs....

So you don't think we will see a 199 unit hit by Christmas?

Re: The Wii U: From "cool" Sony to evil Nintendo

I can pretty much guarantee you that we will see some $200 units come Christmas. They may be stand alone 32GB units though, unless they toss in digital vouches for something like Tropical Freeze or something. Nintendo is going to want as many out there as possible come time for Smash Bros.

Oh yeah, I forgot some people actually don't buy refurbs heh. That's literally all I've bought this year (refurbished laptop (showed up new), refurbished nikon camera, refurbished iphone, refurbished tv). But then I'm the same way with used stuff, won't touch it.

Re: The Wii U: From "cool" Sony to evil Nintendo

Thinking of buying a WiiU. I never bought a Wii because motion controllers have zero interest for me so I've missed out on many Mario games. Is the motion crap optional with this system? If I buy that pro controller can all games be played just using it?

Yes, save for games that are made for motion control in mind like Just Dance, Wii Sports, etc., you should be able to just use a pro controller. The gamepad is nice/handy for certain games.

Re: The Wii U: From "cool" Sony to evil Nintendo

I'm also interested in purchasing a Wii U. Any chance there could be a price drop when Super Smash Bros. comes out? I would buy the Mario Kart 8 bundle but it's sold out everywhere in New York City, it seems.

Also, which game did everyone enjoy more? New Super Mario Bros. U or Wind Waker HD? I wasn't a big fan of New Super Mario Bros for the DS and I played Wind Waker for the GC until that atrocious Triforce fetch quest began. I never did finish the game. I ask because I might get one of the two bundles. Thanks in advance for any advice.

Just buy Mario Kart 8 digitally if you have no intention of selling it. I already had bought New Super Mario Bros U, so I bought the free Wind Waker game since I'd never played it. I liked the New Super Mario Bros U, but I haven't played it much. I will eventually.

Re: The Wii U: From "cool" Sony to evil Nintendo

I doubt we will see a price drop. But, I think we will absolutely see a bundle. I'm guessing Wii U, Smash, GameCube controller, Amibo for $350.

They changed the triforce fetch quest in Zelda, so if you liked it, I would go with that.

What's Amibo? I'm guessing that's a typo.

Re: The Wii U: From "cool" Sony to evil Nintendo

Baby steps Nintendo....

Wii U to Wii U System Transfer

As outlined on Nintendo's support page, the feature will only work with two working and present consoles (no dice if it's broken or lost), and will transfer users, Nintendo Network IDs, save data and downloaded content from one to the other. Once the transfer is complete, the source Wii U will be formatted.
Changes to Nintendo eShop:

Users can now navigate the Nintendo eShop using a Wii Remote, Wii U Pro Controller, or Classic Controller

http://en-americas-support.nintendo...._id/3070/p/431
http://www.ign.com/articles/2014/07/...-another-wii-u
So no forced Gamepad for the eShop? Hmmm...Gamepad free system coming out?
