re: The Wii U: From "cool" Sony to evil Nintendo

Opened my Deluxe this morning. Had it up and updated pretty quickly. Will pick up Zombie U tomorrow.

Haven't had a lot of time to play around with it, but I'm watching Netflix right now, set up TVii and played some NintendoLand games.

Pretty cool so far. my ID is ButrzRulz

The only TVii benefit I see so far is the ability to search everything for content. Directv, Netflix, Hulu and Amazon all at once.

Bah, I can't get the wii u to change the inputs on my tv. Everything else seems to work fine though.

Picked up ZombiU and MarioU this morning. I hope devs look at ZombiU for good ideas on implementing the control pad. I'm really liking it so far.

Web browsing is quite good as well, I like the animated mii that shows up when you use the pad to browse.

Nintendo could really make games a unique experience if they play their cards right.

I'm really enjoying the small social things you can do such as posting screenshots. I hope that is something they work on and improve over time. Posting about levels and stuff from in the game is pretty fun and I find myself using it more than I expected.

re: The Wii U: From "cool" Sony to evil Nintendo

I got a Wii U (well actually santa brought it for the kids) for xmas. I couldnt get the update to work via wifi so i tried an old ethernet->usb adapter i had bought for the original Wii. I could never get the adapter to work on the original Wii but it worked fine on the Wii U and my update went through without a hitch.

at first i was excited to finally have a device hooked to my living room tv that would stream the Amazon movies/shows i get from being subscribed to Amazon prime but once i started looking at what was offered i couldnt find anything that i would want that wasnt on Netflix and i like the Netflix layout much better. But its nice to have the option.

I tried to pick broadcast tv in TVii but some how ended up with cable listings. I only have antenna so all the channel numbers are wrong and i cant figure out how to go back and change it. Also, the Wii U remote cant seem to be programmed to use the AV Receiver's volume control instead of the TV's so a lot of the remote control function is lost on my set up.

the games are fun, though. i only have Nintendoland and Mario so far but the kids love Nintendoland

re: The Wii U: From "cool" Sony to evil Nintendo

After using the Wii U so much since launch, and pretty much ignoring my PS3, I finally tried out Sleeping Dogs on my PS3 (fantastic game btw). My point in even mentioning that is the controller. Wow, it's so weird going back to the PS3 controller after adjusting to the Gamepad. I had even been using the Gamepad to play NSMBU so I haven't even been using a Wii remote or anything like that. Anyone else experience that jarring effect?

And for the record, I'm certainly not saying the Gamepad is a better controller than that for the PS3. I'm just...saying, it's weird going back since the Gamepad is so much bigger.

Yeah I felt the same way too after turning on my PS3 for a little while this past week.

I actually messed my finger up a little using the Gamepad so long for NSMBU. I was gripping the thing so damn hard I think I must have compressed some nerves LOL. I think part of my problem was I was holding my index finger (the one affected) where the middle finger should probably be. I was doing that because it seemed to give my thumb better access to the directional pad.

re: The Wii U: From "cool" Sony to evil Nintendo

I ended up purchasing my wife for Christmas:
  • Wii U Deluxe Set
  • Wii U Controller Pro
  • Wii Remote Plus in Blue and Pink
  • Energizer 3X Charging System for Nintendo Wii U
  • Just Dance 4
Not counting all of the errors I received as the Nintendo eShop was down most of Christmas Day, I had the console updated and the data transferred from my wife's Wii in about an hour ...

... and we haven't touched the console since.

On the bright side, we sold my wife's Wii to her friend for $60. Beats GameStop's trade-in value!

This is what prevents me from getting one for the kids. This is literally the first "major" console I've not owned within a few weeks of launch in my lifetime.

I may or may not regret this purchase. I'll purchase Super Mario Bros. U within the next few weeks, but other than that, there's no other games on the horizon other than Pikmin 3 that we'll purchase for the system. For the time being, it'll be used by my wife as an extension of her Wii.

... well, based upon Reddit's recent love for it, I may purchase Scribblenauts Unlimited if the price is right.

I think Scribblenauts is pretty fun. It's the first game in the series that I've played. I do however wish that you could play the game without having to look down at the gamepad everytime you want to type in a word. The letters don't show up on the tv so you can't just scroll through them.

My cousin gave me Scribblenauts Unlimited for Christmas. I love it, and it looks so amazing on the TV (and Gamepad too).

Anyone else playing ZombiU?? Love this game. No run and gun style here...at all...ever! Can't believe some of the reviews dinged it for lack of ammo/weapons and pick-ups. I mean, a survival horror game where you actually have to WORK to survive?? God forbid!!

Sense of dread is ridiculous in some areas knowing that you WILL DIE.

I haven't played Trine 2 on other platforms but the reviews look really good for the WiiU version. Not sure why its $20 though. PC and Mac versions are much cheaper. Is it worth $20?

It's an awesome game, I agree. Probably one of my favorite this year that I can remember.

re: The Wii U: From "cool" Sony to evil Nintendo

Anyone playing ZombiU feel free to add me to your friend list so our undead selves can populate each others games!!

Spoiler:
Loved the "house party" in the apartment building. I was petrified that they would all turn on me at the last second as I scooted through that room. I was tempted to turn off the DJ equipment but with 3 bullets I thought maybe not a good idea.

I'm also worried about upgrading any weapons as if you die and don't manage to get back to yourself you lose whatever you had forever. I'm saving my found weapons and upgrade parts for later in the game as a result.

I'm pretty sure that, if you die, you'll start out with your upgraded pistol when you're resurrected as a new survivor, so I wouldn't hold off on upgrading that thing.

I don't think I upgraded any other weapons though throughout the game. I usually never had enough ammo for any weapon for it to justify a spot in my inventory. Pretty much just took my pistol and, towards the end of the game, 40 or so rounds.

Though I did run out with an SMG once or twice once my backpack was sufficiently upgraded, but I never did use any upgrade on the weapon.

Hopefully, if they make a sequel to this, they'll spice up the melee combat a little. Take a cue from Dead Island. I want more melee weapons than just my cricket bat, and why don't you give me a combo, or new finishing move, or something.

Picked up Sonic Racing Transformed...what a fun, fun game(and a bargain at $40)! Seeing some of the track themes makes me yearn for some updated Sega Classics...especially the Panzer Dragoon themed track.

I'm really loving the ability to play games on the gamepad and use the pad in what would normally be split screen games. It's so ridiculously useful.

We all knew it was coming, but now it is official. The original battery is 1500 mAh and this one is 4000 mAh.

Here is the information on it...

http://www.nyko.com/products/product...+Pak+for+Wii+U
  • Triple the capacity and play time of the original GamePad
  • Includes mini screwdriver for easy installation
  • Works with the existing Nyko and first party charging solutions
  • Fits entirely into the existing GamePad Battery compartment – no additional bulk
  • CE and EL certified high quality lithium polymer battery
  • $25

re: The Wii U: From "cool" Sony to evil Nintendo

I'm surprised anyone in this thread would be complaining about the battery since it seems everyone that bought a WiiU hasn't touched it since they bought it!!

Has this really been an issue for anyone, at least for those with the Deluxe Edition charging cradle? Aside from an occasional marathon Black Ops 2 session here and there (on PS3) I don't generally play for more than 2 hours at a stretch on any console. I guess I can see it for those that don' have the charging cradle and forgetting to charge between play sessions.

Not really. I only have Mario and that's not a game I play more than an hour at a time anyway.
