re: The Wii U: From "cool" Sony to evil Nintendo

I haven't seen it mentioned anywhere, but I can no longer watch youtube videos with the web browser. I guess they're trying to force people to use the shitty app. My son loves to watch videos on the gamepad so this is going to be a problem in my house.

I don't know what's going on with mine then. I tried about ten different videos and none of them would play. I'll mess around with it later and see if it works.

So what did they update in their Network services agreement and privacy notice? They sent me an email today saying I can't login until I accept it again.

What's idiotic is a message pops up on the gamepad telling you to read and accept the agreement before you can do anything. Fine. Does it take you there? Of course not. Gotta figure out where the agreement is in the system to read/accept. Lazy programming.

I haven't been wanting a Wii U. Saw the bundle the other day. The hook was set. I was ready to buy. "Full game download." Ripped the hook right back out.

All gaming consoles will go that way with 'bundle' games. They can now track how many people are actually downloading it, it can't be resold to game stores, no additional money to press discs etc. Nintendo has done it for a while now with the 3DS and I think Sony and MS have as well.

It's nothing new.

It's also the future. Get on board or get left behind.

I don't like the future. It requires too much HD space.

I get what you're saying, but don't see how not buying a Wii U leaves him behind exactly. In fact, he'll be $299 richer.

I do tend to agree though, it's a smart way to do it.

It's the future of everything. My comment had nothing to do with the WiiU specifically.

Had I been going to buy the console anyway, then I would have gotten it and tossed the download code. Saving the money on pressing a disc cost them a sale of a console. Cost them all the other games that I would have bought. The unique confluence of events that made me willing to get a Wii U is unlikely to occur again.

You'll still probably buy a Wii U down the line if you almost bought one. Get ready for it cause that's how it's going to be for the majority of bundles from MS and Sony as well. It's just easier, saves on discs, shipping weight etc. They can track who redeems it, where they redeem it, when they redeem it after purchase etc.

Shit, people were complaining when they were getting discs/carts as bundles with no box (just the disc/cart and manual).

Wind Waker is the first digital game I've bought (vs a hard copy) and you know what...I don't care. I thought I might, but I just don't. I do wish Nintendo had a better way to move my purchases from one console to another (which I believe is coming soon), but for now, it's just easier.

I do still think they should give a discount on digital vs. physical. That's my one beef.

That's my big problem with digital vs. physical when it comes to game consoles: There's no competition when it comes to digital.

On the PC, you have Steam as a redemption platform, but you can buy the games direct from Steam, or GreenManGaming, or GamersGate, or GameFly, or Amazon or NewEgg, etc;

I don't think they really sell redemption cards/codes for console full games yet.

Well, the sensor bar is just a light source, right?

Wait, is that buy 1 get 1 40% replacing the B2G1F sale? Because that's usually in October too...

re: The Wii U: From "cool" Sony to evil Nintendo

Looks like the bundle helped a little bit:

20,946 units sold 3 weeks ago
33,964 units sold 2 weeks ago
43,514 units sold last week

Up over 100% in two weeks time

Still very low, but Nintendo has to be happy with that kind of improvement heading into the holiday season.

I tried that. Out of 20 or so randomly chosen videos only one played. The rest say that the video is unavailable on this device. A few of the videos are ones that were working before the update.

Yup, I pre-ordered Pokemon Y for the kid and picked up Super Luigi WiiU for $18 (after discount & store pick up).

However, you must change User Agent each time the browser is opened, as this setting will not be saved. Hopefully there will be another update soon to address this, but at least there is a solution in the meantime.
Thanks. I'll give it a try.

re: The Wii U: From "cool" Sony to evil Nintendo

We'll my Wii U crapped out on me, the power button keeps flashing red, and the console won't turn on. I tried trouble shooting it, but nothing works. So I decided to call Nintendo to setup a repair, but whenever I call the message says sorry we're to busy to take your call try trouble shooting it. I tried to setup a repair online but for some reason you can't do that for the Wii U, I also tried chat and that didn't work. Is this normal for Nintendo I have never had to deal with there customer service before.
