re: Do you plan on buying the next Xbox or PlayStation 4? (Pre E3 Edition)

I will get both eventually, but probably not at launch and probably not for a couple years. I would rather spend the money upgrading my pc which will probably exceed both machines graphically. Also I don't enjoy deal with the closed and restrictive console platforms, so I will probably only get them to play the exclusives. I prefer the account based nature of the pc and mobile platforms, once I have the game I'm not tied to one machine or console generation. Plus I like the freedom of buying from multiple online stores and not just the platform holder.

My wife also uses the video chat function to communicate with her family (mis suegros) in Guatemala at least once a week. I will buy both consoles if they both can do some nice things and I'm excited to know that the Xbox will have a bd drive as having to swap discs or have a multiple disc game on a newer console was a bit disappointing.
The only thing that is a bit silly is people here saying they'll have to see specs first. You're going to buy it. You're here on a DVD forum discussing video games. You've already bought it.

Doesn't mean much. My Interest in video games outside the Call of Duty franchise died long ago and Treyarch is doing their best to kill my interest in COD.

Last non-cod game I bought was UFC undisputed like 4 or 5 years ago.

Probably end up with both, but will likely go XBOX this year. I'm with the others that I jumped on PS3 first last gen because of blu ray and it won't be a factor this time around. I've been more pleased with my 360 as a gaming machine.

I didn't buy the 360 because outside of games there was nothing else the console did for me and none of the games interested me enough to buy the console for. If this generation's Xbox has some nice features alongside the games then i might pick it up. However, I don't have enough disposable income to stack multiple controllers and other peripherals for different systems.

Sorry, if both Playstation 4 and Xbox Infinity don't support backwards compatibility and eliminate used games, I'm done with the concept of current consoles. Not to say I won't buy another console at some point in my life, but that's kinda the end of my rope as far as "keeping up". I've kept up for 30 years, and at least one system has always had the consumer in the mind. Clearly, if these two rumors become truths, they are more interested in their software publishers than any consumer out there. Hence where I decide to stick to what I have and they can go f'themselves. Harsh but true.

I'll pick up a PS4 at launch. I'm sure I'll end up with the new Xbox at some point too but it'll be a year or two down the line when there's an updated model and a price drop.

Like Kedrix, if they both go with tech to eliminate used games, I'll be out. The day that's confirmed, I'll pick up a WiiU. I haven't played PC games since X-wing back in high school, but I'd also likely build a gaming PC and go with Steam. Being able to sell games when I'm done with them and waiting to pick up dirt-cheap used copies of ones I'm only mildly curious about are vital aspects of console gaming to me. Take those away and they're basically putting their systems into a direct (losing) competition with PCs.

I totally forgot about that PC game...X-Wing. That was a blast back in those days. To this day Unreal Tournament is my favorite. Best surprise game Freespace 2

On a side note...I'll keep an eye on Valve's Steam Box. That right there might change some of PC gaming as well.

They're not going to eliminate used games.

He should buy a gaming PC, especially if looking for the first one. I purchased all of the GTA games for $12.49 during the last Steam summer sale.

It will be years before I buy a next gen system. I am not the most frequent gamer and just getting back into it after a long time off. There are so many games that I have still yet to play through, and at the rate of one game every few months I should be set for a really long time buying cheap titles.

I have such a huge backlog on both systems that I could easily skip the next generation... but I must have the precious... new and shiny....

What Mr. Music said.

More than likely Xbox on day one, but I'm not liking the rumors of the used game thing and requiring Kinect.

If we can believe what is shown for the video of Assassin's Creed IV - the Next-Gen will start by October 29th... and no, I don't consider the Wii U to be "Next-Gen" ... if they do, then

That's my plan. By the time I catch up on my backlog and what I missed (I assume 1-2 years from now) the bug/kinks will be fixed in the next gen consoles and there will actually be games to play, unlike a typical launch.
