Re: What consoles are you buying this year? Monday Edition!

Do you expect any bad "surprises" before the launch of any console?
Has the embargo ended for the PS4? Have they released all the reviews?

I'm surprised that the Xbox One is still not playable at Best Buy and/or Gamestop. The PS4 was playable 2 weeks before release at both locations. Maybe Microsoft will give the go ahead this weekend.

Was just at BB and no playable PS4 still. It's not like I'm in a podunk town either.

I played it at one of the Xbox One Tour stops. Controller felt similar, & quite nice. killer Instinct was fast, fun and looked pretty damn good. Forza was quite nice looking and the rumbling triggers were a very cool feature. Good stuff.

Finally made a decision to only get XB1 at launch. I fully expect to have a PS4 within a couple of years when it has at least one exclusive game that interests me.

I own just about every console since the release of the NES, but for whatever reason I have absolutely zero interest in the new systems. I would be interested in the Wii U at $200 and the other two at $300 or less, so I doubt I will be buying until that price point is reached and there are a lot more games available.

What, no option for the Zenith Gamespace Pro?

Console Wars Heat Up As Zenith Unveils Gamespace Pro

LINCOLNSHIRE, IL—With next-generation video game systems such as the Xbox One and the Playstation 4 hitting stores later this month, the console wars got even hotter today as electronics manufacturer Zenith announced the release of its own console, the Gamespace Pro, which arrives in stores Nov. 19. “With its sleek silver-and-gray box, double-analog-stick controllers, ability to play CDs, and starting price of $374.99, the Gamespace Pro is our way of saying, ‘Move over, Sony and Microsoft, Zenith is now officially a player in the console game,’” said Zenith CEO Michael Ahn at a Gamespace Pro press event, showcasing the system’s launch titles MoonChaser: Radiation, Cris Collinsworth’s Pigskin 2013, and survival-horror thriller InZomnia. “With over nine launch titles, 3D graphics, and the ability to log on to the internet using our Z-Connect technology, Zenith is finally poised to make some big waves in the video game world.” According to Zenith representatives, over 650 units have already been preordered.

Holy shit, that's a throwback. I can't even remember what the inside of one of those looked like, only that I got my first DVD player and surround sound system when the local one went out of business in 2000.

I remember Service Merchandise being a good spot for Star Wars action figures when I was a kid.

I hated that store growing up whenever my parents would go there.. You really couldn't ever buy anything off of a shelf. You had to order it through the in-store computer system and then go to the back of the store to pay and pick up the item from the conveyor belt the warehouse employee put your item on.

Total opposite for me. When I was little, I loved seeing the product come down the conveyor belt. It kinda had the same feeling of buying a NES game at Toys with a slip and bringing it to the game counter to pick up the box.

If I had walked into B&H Photo when I was a kid, I'm pretty sure my head would have exploded.

Holy crap, I had forgotten all about that. Now I remember being devastated as a kid when a new game I wanted had no more slips and all you saw was that "Sorry, we're out" note in the empty pocket

Yeah the conveyor belt was awesome as a kid. On the flipside, Toys R Us having the pharmacy like setup where you bring your ticket to the window was terrible.

Re: What consoles are you buying this year? Monday Edition!

Looks like NfS: Rivals is running 1080p/30fps on both consoles and looking just fine on both.

Good stuff and probably shows that developers like Capcom just failed to worry about steady fps when it came to DR3. Sad Capcom, sad!

Re: What consoles are you buying this year? Monday Edition!

I disagree, there's a big difference in graphical demands between a racing game and a game where you kill a million zombies.

That said, I do agree that DR3's issue is poor programming and not the Xbox One in and of itself. The game is still in beta.

I'd say there is no load difference in a racing game that has you zooming through scenery & traffic against multiple opponents wrecking around you at break neck speeds and a game that has you walking and driving slowly through tons of Zombies.

The NfS guys took time to make sure the FPS was rock solid, if you read the article. Capcom was more worried about the amount of Zombies on the screen then they were making sure their game didn't dip into the 'teens of FPS, so it seems.

To be fair, I'm buying DR3 because I love the series. Just a tad disheartening that they couldn't lock in a steady fps even though the machine is obviously able to handle it.

Re: What consoles are you buying this year? Monday Edition!

On the bright side, in this day and age of patches, anything is possible. There's even rumors of an FPS patch for Ghosts on the PS4, so I don't see why one for DR3 isn't possible in the future.

doubtful for Ghosts. that would take resources away from some Zombie-mode or Marvel-themed loadout DLC that generate revenue.
