Yeah it doesn't sound like a horrible deal. Since it includes Game Pass, you have an instant game library. I can absolutely see this being attractive to folks who just can't scrape together 400-500 bucks for a luxury at one time. A teenager could manage it with his allowance or lawnmowing money (kids still do that, right?)
If I did the math right, it looks like it actually saves ~15 bucks over the life of the term. Granted, that is off regular retail price, and admittedly there are often deals on both hardware and subscriptions. So it's not the best deal, but it's a reasonable deal, and an easy one.
Plus, with Scarlett due to come out next holiday season, I would expect that without something like this, or some crazy sales, X1 hardware sales will be very low this upcoming Christmas 2019. So it's good for MS as well (of course they're expecting it to be,otherwise they wouldn't do it.)

That's kind of funny as it's the only Sherlock Holmes game they didn't delist. It's actually a pretty good game. It has zero replayablity but it is a pretty entertaining game. John Hamm and Jude Law should have sued for the use of their likenesses (and Law of course actually plays Watson in the movies)

Is there a way to totally rid your system of a game or preloaded game? I can install and hide, but not permanently delete a preorder that pre downloaded a couple things, not big in size, but I cancelled preorder for Fallen Jedi with MS and want to get on Amazon, but I’ve ran into issues before and I just want to rid of whatever there...

Seems to have disappeared so I guess I’m good. But, my external is like 70% full. OldBoy is getting nervous, very nervous (said like Lee Bear who played George Steinbrenner on Seinfeld and voiced by Larry David, I believe...

Went ahead and did the Newegg promotion for the 6 months at $39.99 (2 codes) for the XBox Gamepass Ultimate. I figured that is the best current deal for it.

When you preorder a game and already get download code and thus install on Xbox, it installs the 40 or so Gb, then it’s there on console permanently when game releases correct? No way it can get deleted?
For instance: if I mistakenly made a purchase on amazon for a preorder, got code, redeemed, it’s installing, it’s going to be there on release, right?
I didn’t use store card and want to get points, but one time I could cancel shortly after, but after it installs, that’s it, no cancel bc installed?

No. You redeemed it. I mean, you can delete it, sure, but it's still in your account, and it's still purchased. You can't refund it.
Steam (on PC) will have some exceptions to this... but only if you bought it on steam.
Similarly, IF Microsoft had anything like this (and I don't think they do), you bought the code on Amazon, not direct from MS. There's no reason for either MS or Amazon to honor any kind of refund request so you can get your points or whatever it is you're trying to do.

also, what does it mean to have a game both in internal and external harddrives (if i copied one to the other and didn't delete)? is there any purpose to that? will it play better on one harddrive vs the other?

depends on the quality of the external drive, I guess. I store most of my games on my external by default, but only because there's a lot more space there. I haven't seen any major performance differences. I'm sure some site like eurogamer has some benchmark tests or something.

I think in the past an external drive would load games faster. But the difference was minimal and virtually unnoticeable. Now I think the One X is supposed to have a really fast drive. I install my games on it and my apps on the external.

It looks like they are sending out more invitations to the Project X Cloud streaming beta. I just got mine today. Perfect timing too since we are going out of town in a couple days. I'm eager to pack a controller and check it out.

I can’t remember last time I played physical disc on Xbox. I know you still have to download full game to system (which I guess I’m not sure why), but any extra noise or drawbacks playing physical v digital? Or exactly same?

Re: Xbox One: S $249 Now / X $499 November 7 2017
The reason for the mandatory game install and playing from the HDD or SSD is that optical discs and optical drives are terrible at speedily delivery of data, both throughput and seek times, especially seek times. Games on an HDD or SSD can start up faster and load more data, which is critical for modern games. But optical discs are still the cheapest high capacity storage to mass produce a product on.
The main drawback to having a physical disc is that you have to have that disc in the drive in order to play the game, instead of just selecting it from your menu. The advantage is that the disc isn't tied to your account, like a download is, so you can loan it out or resell it, or buy used for less.
