I went to TRU after work and they didn't accept any of the coupons, I talked with multiple people and they woudn't budge. Might try again, but if they continue not to accept I might try to get the $10 deposit back even though I only paid $7 and received PATF.

Re: Toys R Us BD (and DVD) prices 3/21-3/27

Went to pick up my pre-ordered blu/dvd today and they didn't have any. I asked at customer service and he said they will be in tomorrow. They never received any today. They did get in the dvd/blu though but I'm picky and don't want that one. There were only a few copies of TS1 in various places around the store. I only saw 1 copy of TS2.
Sucks that I'm going to have to go back tomorrow. But I can't blame them I guess, they said it was on Disney that they didn't receive their stock.

Try target. Even no coupon is better than amazon.com.

Re: Toys R Us BD (and DVD) prices 3/21-3/27

I had a bad experience at Toys R Us. First I couldnt get it in the Blu case. Then the sleazy sales girl kept saying it comes with a warranty protection plan. I wasn't watching when my Mom paid for it and she charged 1.99 per item for a software warranty program. i dont really feel like going back there and yelling at them about it. I've never been charged for the BS warranty program before without them asking permission which they never did. Don't understand such a sleazy practice at a toy store.

Re: Toys R Us BD (and DVD) prices 3/21-3/27

Oh. I see everyone else has been having fun Toys R' Us stories too. So, I head in today and go to the "R Zone" to pick up the preorders from yesterday. The cashier hands me a Blu case of Toy Story 1 and a Dvd case of Toy Story 2. After expressing my disdain for having two different cases and repeatedly pointing out that I had ordered the Blu Ray case edition (marked explicitly by a different SKU on the preorder card), I get a manager over. She hastily replies "They're the same thing", to which I retort "No. They are not. I'd like to receive the item I preordered." Needless to say, we continued calmly back and forth until she expressed that I should perhaps cancel because she doesn't know if they are getting in the Blu Ray case style. Least of all, why the hell would I want two different style casing for the movies? So, I head over to the customer service desk, anticipating the final snag: the status of my previously $30 (with the preorder bonus) now ten dollar Pixar Short Films Collection that I purchased and opened yesterday. To my shock and luck (thanks Frat Girl employee), she refunds me the ten dollars I put down on the titles. In the end, I received a ten dollar Pixar Short Blu and will buy the two combo packs at Target tomorrow with the coupons. Guess I got lucky for once.

Why is that? Price is the same ($22.99 each -$10 off total) and no tax. Plus you can order the blu case and get the slipcover.

Good luck. I was at a Target this evening and the Toy Story Blu-Rays were nearly wiped out. There were definitely no Toy Story 2 Blu-Ray case versions left. And this is my backup Target which doesn't normally sell stuff as fast as my main one.

Re: Toys R Us BD (and DVD) prices 3/21-3/27

I went to the Appleton (WI) TRU at about 5 pm tonight, and they had LOTS of DVD case copies of both movies and not a single BluRay of either. The electronics manager stopped by to ask if I needed help and confirmed they had no BD cases whatsoever after selling out this am.

He expected more Thurs or Fri-- but he told me to go ahead and buy the DVD cases (to ensure I got the deal), and to exchange them for BD cases when I came back. I had him say that to me three times, and he assured me they'd accept an even exchange. He, actually, sympathized with me when I said I knew it was anal-retentive-- but I wanted BluRay cases.

I headed to the cashier and debated with myself about buying a couple of candy bars to get at least four items (one for each coupon), but my cheapness kept me from spending a freakin' dollar on a candy bar.

The cashier took the movies, took my "manufacturing" ($5) and my "upgrade" ($10) coupons without batting an eyelash. I didn't even get a reaction when she gave me the total: $5.68 after tax.

No preorders, no buying anything I didn't want... Insane deal.

Thanks to all of those who've posted on these threads to help me maximize the discounts.

As for the ethics of it-- I like to think people like us (movie/DVD/BD lovers) drive the excitement for these releases. If Disney or TRU or Target or whomever didn't get us excited, it may not trickle down as much to the regular folks who think paying $17 for each is a great deal (like me-- before I started lurking on this site).

I like to think we're helping the system a little. Who blew through TRU and bought up all the BDs in Appleton? Who blew through the Fox River Mall Target and wiped them clean of almost all stock (1 BD TS and 2 DVD TS2s) by 6:30 on release day? Movie fans like us.

And those Average Joes who saw the empty/sold out shelves felt a compulsion to buy too because they must be great movies if they're already sold out, so they'll be back to pick up their copies later this week, and the stores end up selling more than they would have.

Re: Toys R Us BD (and DVD) prices 3/21-3/27

After skimming the TRU stories, I'm glad I didn't waste my time doing the deal there (which would've required driving 20 miles out of my way) as I most likely would've been disappointed if they were out of stock. Fortunately my Target had plenty in stock and was willing to pricematch and take the $10 off coupons. This again reinforces my notion that I should avoid TRU no matter what their future deals are if there's any chance that Target's deal will even be close, and in my case my Target deal worked out about the same.

Holy crap, dude. Holy CRAP. That is an epic deal. YOU WIN THE THREAD! If not the entire forum for the year. Not only did you use every possible coupon (even on the extra BD you used to cover the negative cost) and get the pre-order discount (I take it you got the full "error" $20 discount, right?), but you broke TRU's computer in the process! That is one for Guinness. The only way someone could beat this is if they did the same thing but threw on a candy bar to cover that lost 3 cents. If not for the prices ending in .99 instead of round numbers you would have got to keep that 3 cents. Hat's off to you, sir!

$10.97 (+tax) TOTAL for three Disney combo Blu-Rays (TS1, TS2, PatF). Pretty sweet for sticking to 1 manufacturer's coupon per item.
My ACTUAL experience today:

Got to TRU at 9:30 right at open time with my pre-order cards and $10 coupons in hand. They have NO Blu-Ray packages available, but have 15-20 each of the yellow-bordered DVD packaging. After rebuffing employees comments that they are all the same and the card must be in error, I got a manager who was aware of the differences. He took my name and told me he would call me when they find the Blu-Rays. I get a call at noon that they are holding my set. I get there right after work (~5:30) to find they did not have my set put aside and all Blu-Rays (except one Toy Story) were sold. I got the same manager who took my name earlier and he apologized that they did not keep mine aside. He promised to call when they get the next shipment in this week, and gave me a $25 TRU gift card for my trouble. And he sold me the 1 TS1 copy:

+16.99: TS1 (he manually took off $5 of the $21.99)
+25.00 Gift Card for the screw-up
-$ 5.00: TS1 deposit
-$10.00: TS1 printable coupon
________
$1.98 (plus sales tax)

Hopefully, the other half of the order will be filled this week. I thought pre-orders would be accounted for. It amazes me that TRU screwed this up.

Yeah, I was pretty excited as I was finishing the transaction, and it was all going through.

I went last week on Tues. and was denied on the PatF coupons + $15 preorder discount. The jerk electronics guy told me it was one or the other. Fortunately, after reading about other people doing it fine, plus the additional "$5 Disney Promo" I went back on Sat. and did the deal just fine at the checkout register with a young lady checker. Love me some young lady checkers; they got me both deals with no hassles this week.

Does it really amaze you? That said, at my store they were put aside for the pre-orders, so I guess it's up to the individual store to act correctly. I'm sorry yours apparently sucks, since besides not reserving for pre-orders, the manager didn't even do what he told you he'd do. He did do right by you in the end, but still.

Re: Toys R Us BD (and DVD) prices 3/21-3/27

My TRU screwed up royally too. I preordered the BD cases but they claimed to have sold all of them. They also tried to say you can only use one coupon. I asked for them to rationalize to me why I could use a coupon on TS1 but not TS2 and no one could answer me.

Fortunately, they let me return my preorder and keep my deal on PATF so all was not lost. BB pricematched the TRU deal and took my coupons after a minute or two of calm arguing. They also first offered to take only one coupon. Their logic was that I was getting too good of a deal. I explained that they were manufacturers coupons and that BB sends them in to Disney for a refund.

This is the first time I've known you not to get them to work for you. I do think you have "connections" at Target though.

I started a thread in the store forum about the reasoning behind denying valid coupons. I am curious if anyone knows (from a management/vendor perspective) WHY a store would reject a coupon even if they would get reimbursed. I'm not talking about stacking coupons for the same product -- but it seems sometimes management denies using coupons if they see you will get too good a deal.

The electronics lady grabbed my pre-order BD cases from the back (no TS2 BD cases on the floor), and walked me over to the Customer Service desk. There I waited behind two other guys who were sitting around forever while the managers were in a group huddle trying to figure out how to make the Pre-order discount, $10 buy both discount, and the $10 manufacturer coupons work together. At first they were saying you couldn't do the $10 discount + manu. coupons together. Then the store manager said to do it, but do some weird ringup and then refund and stuff, and they were taking forever.

Finally, I just took all my stuff and went to a register. Found a nice young girl, and had her ring up all my items first. Then, handed her the pre-order card. After she totalled it up, I verified the prices were correct ($11.99 for each TS), and then handed her all the coupons. She looked at them only briefly as I explained that they were all different, and then proceeded to scan them all. At the end she congratulated me on the deal, saying some woman had come in earlier and got the TS's for $2, and she didn't think anyone would beat that.

Very good. My deal was pretty good too, I only paid $11.00 and got 4 Blu-rays and 5 DVDs.
- Toy Story 2 (BD)
- The Twilight Saga: New Moon (BD)
- The Boondock Saints (BD)
- Scooby's All Star Laff-A-Lympics: Volume 1 (DVD)
- The First Easter Rabbit (DVD)
- Monsters Vs. Aliens (DVD)
- B.O.B.'s Big Break (DVD)
- Erin Brockovich (DVD)

While the Toys R Us deal would have been nice, I'm perfectly happy with picking up at Target and not having to go through the possibility of a run-a-round at TRU, not having the BD packages, having to come back once or even multiple times. Hit Target before work, cashier asked me directly if I had any coupons, handed the two $10 upgrade coupons and got TS 1/TS2 in BD packaging for $16. A fantastic deal in my opinion with absolutely no hassels.

Man, sorry to hear that folks are having a hard time with this deal.

I was starting to get worried reading this thread last night as I wasn't able to get to the store on Tuesday. I'm happy to report no issues at the TRU on 76th & Brown Deer in Milwaukee ... I did the PATF pre-order w/ the $10 PATF coupon and used only the 2 TS $10 upgrade coupons, all told with tax $12.93 for the 3. Good enough for me! But ...

they had no BD-DVD packs, just the DVD-BD. I wasn't planning on watching them right away anyway so I'll just check back in a few days and do an even exchange for the BD cases. Manager said that was no problem as long as they weren't opened.

That's where I bought mine yesterday. They were holding the BD packs behind the CS counter, but I suppose they could have run out by today... They would have let you use the $5 and $10 coupons on both there. CS even checked with the store manager, and he said yes...

They tried to give me the DVD style case last night, and I asked for the Blu Ray, which one of the two managers who were helping me found. I figured they'd give me a hard time for the two $10 coupons but they didn't.

BTW, I don't know if this is a TRU thing, a NY state thing, or something I never payed attention to, but I seem to have been taxed on the original price of the items before discounts, so it looks like the taxes were like 40%
