I assume that even if it's not their policy to accept them, that it's still the manufacturer's responsibility to reimburse the retailer. It seems that TRU would eventually get a check from Disney and someone would have the presence of mind to ask, "What's this for?" and some people at a lot of TRU's are gonna hear about how they violated policy. I can certainly appreciate why this manager would not want the hassle.
Yea, that's exactly how it works. They submit the coupons and get face value + 8 cents. At the end of the day, there is no valid reason not to accept MFR's coupons. I can understand why an online e-talier wouldn't, but not a national B&M chain.

I just got an official warning PM from him because I posted that I used all 4 coupons before I did not know it was not allowed to talk about.

I just nicely replied that I did not know it was taboo and it won't happen again. Last thing I want to do is start trouble, being a new member over there.

Re: Toys R Us BD (and DVD) prices 3/21-3/27

I went to our only local TRU when they open. I was the first person to grab my TS1 & TS2 blu-ray copies. They only had one more blu-ray copy of TS2 the rest were the dvd-blu-ray combos. They said that is all they had after they filled up their pre-orders. Unfortunately I was not able to use both the $10 & $5 off coupons. I tried to different registers and no go. So both for $15 and change.

While standing in line outside before the store open. People were asking me where/how I got the coupons from. None of them were aware of the $10 or $5 off coupons.

Practically speaking, I can't think of a single reason. The only thing I can think of is that TRU wants cash in hand, instead of waiting for reimbursement. Why it would make a difference, I can't say--especially since they take credit card payments from customers.

Yeah, it's addressed in a sticky thread somewhere I think about forum rules. No one ever reads those things, though. Hell, I didn't read any of the rules here until one day when I was terribly bored--and by then, I'd been a contributing member for about a year and a lurker even longer. I wouldn't let it rankle you too much.

The reason for shunning discussion about stacking coupons, incidentally, is that there is fear that if it gets out that a lot of people are violating store policies and coupon rules to get great deals, then stores will be less likely to run promos and studios less likely to offer coupons. Plus, legally speaking, if you violate the terms of a coupon, it is classified as fraud. It might seem lame, but websites don't want the hassle of having its members boast about committing fraud.

Re: Toys R Us BD (and DVD) prices 3/21-3/27

I used all 4 (2 each) and I don't have a problem with it.

The way that I read the coupons, you could not use more than one of EACH. So, you couldn't print out several $10 coupons for Toy Story and use them.

The $5 was for everyone and the $10 was for upgrading, which I did, so I think I did exactly what Disney was allowing me to do.

I ran into the same problem with the TRU reserving all the BD versions and only having DVD cases for sale.

I flirted with the lady and I went home with two of the blu-ray case versions that I wanted.

$6.98 and very happy.

Thankfully, it didn't affect the $20 off I got on the Pixar Shorts Blu-Ray.

So, I went to Target to try and get them there. Of course, they were sold out of the Blu versions of both movies. Now, I have to wait and see if they'll get more in stock this week.

This sucks!
That doesn't make sense because they actually advertise sometimes in the weekly ads to go and print out a coupon from disney's site. They didn't for Toy Story but last week for Princess and the Frog they told you specifically in the ad to use the $10 off coupon.

Re: Toys R Us BD (and DVD) prices 3/21-3/27

Went to 2 different TRU's all the Blu versions were being held for pre-orders. They both told me to check back later tonight because they are expecting direct shipments of more Blu's.

Screw that!

I went to Target in Burbank (Empire Center) at 12:30 p.m.... fully stocked with the Blu versions not just the DVD+Blu versions!

I priced matched the TRU ad (this took forever because a floor manager had to check if they even priced matched TRU in the first place). Once it was a go, I handed the non-caring clerk my 4 coupons (2 $10's and 2 $5's) and at first they wouldn't scan (due to my crappy Epson printer) total out the door $6.28 they charged me tax on $23.98 for some reason... whatever two Blu for $3 bucks a piece... I'm stoked!

Ditto. The only thing they had for sale was TS1 in DVD packaging. They didn't even have any TS2 available at all! I'm glad I pre-ordered...

Re: Toys R Us BD (and DVD) prices 3/21-3/27

I find it strange that Toys R Us would state that it is corporate policy not to accept MFRs coupons, yet most of the stores and cashiers are accepting them. Not only that, but the cash registers are not kicking them out.

It seems like most stores and employees would be aware of such an important policy, and their computer system would be set up as to not accept the coupons.

I guess YMMV at TRU.

there were about a dozen of the BR/DVD combos near the counters at the Rockville TRU' s, had no problems, even though I didn't bother with the five dollar coupons, 8 dollars each for them - not bad.

Re: Toys R Us BD (and DVD) prices 3/21-3/27

Here is a post quoted from another non-DVD forum. I think it's the same deal kenbenobi did above, but a little more detail on how it added up. I thought I was only losing $5 by going the Best Buy/Target route, but I didn't factor in the extra $5 TRU pre-order error and the acceptance of the 2nd $5 coupons for each movie. I got the PATF book and the Toy Story DVD-ROM games at the other stores that TRU buyers didn't get, but at a $25 additional cost compared to what this guy paid at TRU! Below is the best deal possible for the 3 movies, unless you added on those two mail-away $8 coupons.

Posted by man-thing on March 23, 2010 at 10:31:06:

TRU/Disney PAID me $3 to take them AND Princess&Frog! No Joke

Last week:

Princess and the Frog came out on BluRay, and TRU had it on sale for $26.99. TRU also had a deal that knocked $20 off of any Disney dvd/blu when preordering Toy Story 1&2.

$26.99 PATF
+$5 TS1 preorder
+$5 TS2 preorder
_________________
$36.99 Total

- $20 TRU deal for preordering TS1&2
___________________________

$16.99 for PATF and $10 in TS preorders

-$10 Disney coupon for PATF

-$5 Disney coupon for PATF
_____________________________

$1.99+tax for PATF and $10 TS preorders

Today:

$33.98 for TS1&2
-$10 preorders from last week(which was paid for with $3 PATF)
-$20 Disney Upgrade coupons for each
-$10 Disney $5 coupons for each TS blu
________________________________________

-$6.02 for TS1&2 after all coupons/preorders added. I grabbed a MU Secret Wars 2 pack to avoid a negative balance.

So, adding the ~$3 I paid last week for PATF, I arrive at Disney/TRU paying me for 3 new release blu rays!

That doesn't add up. I price-matched to TRU and only used two $10 coupons and paid $3.98 pre-tax. I also got the subtotal of $23.98 based on the $16.99 TRU price-match and the $10 Target discount. But both $10 coupons being taken off brought the final total down to $3.98. If I added two $5 coupons on the total would then be -$6.02. It almost looks like your coupons took you to the negative territory, but Target's cash register dropped off the negative sign and charged it to you as a positive. But I'm not sure where the 8.25% California sales tax would come into the equation. The only explanation to get you out of the negative territory is you added on an $11.82 item you didn't mention.

LOL, runner001, so you're the first to get back your coupon overage by returning the items you bought to cover it for a gift card. Looks like you only needed to buy one $12.99 item though, not two. But you didn't show us how many minutes you waited to do the return...

Wait, they hold actual copies if you preorder?

I preordered, but searched for the bluray case versions, but they only had Toy Story in a BD case, not Toy Story 2. So I got the dvd case version of TS2, to be exchanged later.

Easiest thing is to buy the right version at Target, then use that receipt later to return your old one. Target is apparently using the same DPCI on either version, just like they typically use the same DPCI for their exclusive copy of a DVD or game and the regular version, even though the UPCs on them may be different.

Better watch out what you list. The bragging police who doesn't get these kind of sales to work for him will try and rat you out because he thinks your bragging.

8.25% sales tax must be nice, here in Los Angeles our sales tax is 9.75% you have me confused... how can I be in the negative? And actually my sales total was $6.32 not $6.28 I was typing and talking to my boss while I was pretending to be doing work so that final total was a typo. $0.04 mistake my bad.

Anyway, when I get home tonight I can scan my receipt for you... I'm starring at it right now.

Here's a brief price match rundown:

Toy Story 1 $16.99
- $10 coupon
- $5 coupon
= $1.99

Toy Story 2 $16.99
- $10 coupon
- $5 coupon
= $1.99

$1.99
+ $1.99
= $3.98

plus $2.34 sales tax*

Total $ 6.32

*sales tax based on a random (to me) "package total" of $23.98

??? negative? How, why?

I feel like I'm in a Twilight Zone episode and I can't read a sales receipt that is right in front of my face. Strange.

Disney packaged the Toy Story combo packs two different ways. One is in a black DVD case, like most of the DVDs you might own. The other way is in a blue Blu-ray case, like most of the Blu-rays you might own. They have the exact same content.

The "cover sleeves" are commonly called "slipcovers" among collectors. These were put on both the DVD and Blu-ray case versions of the movies. I can report that not every copy my Walmart received came with a slipcover, since I was standing next to the employee as she took them out of the box to place on the shelf, so don't be surprised if you don't find slipcovers.

Hope this helps!

Ignore my post above yours... yes it's the same content, just flipped... depending if you purchased the "DVD+Blu" Armary case or the "Blu+DVD" Blu-ray case version the content on the discs are swapped.
