They always seem to give separate confirmations but I received one tracking number.

Not sure why they do that.

Using the Promo Code: HONESTABE at checkout you can recieve 30% off used DVDs and 20% off PV Blu-ray from a selected list here. It says to check back all week for additional new titles. The B2G2 for $2 sale is also still going on IN STORE for dvds and used/pv blu-ray.

Used HONESTABE and got:

MST3K 20th Anniversary
Titus Season 1 and 2.

Had a hard time getting it to work on the cart page. Had to enter it later during one of the later stages of checkout.

Thanks for the heads up but the list of ppv is slim.

Shipping killed this deal. $60 something to ship my $89 worth of stuff. I thought I could purchase one book and get free shipping, but that was not the case. The free shipping is for books only and does not combine.

re: Hastings / gohastings.com discounts and deals on Blu-ray

They must have went up on their prices on some items. I made an order with the $1 shipping. I was kind of bummed that the 30%/20% came along right after as I might have actually saved more money. But all my items went up. Here's what I ordered:

Title: Current Price Price I paid
Alias: The Complete Fifth Season $16.99 $13.21
Lost: The Final Season (BD) $39.99 $26.73
Disney's A Christmas Carol (BD) $14.99 $6.47

So my total was $46.41 + $1 shipping + $2.84 tax = $50.25 total

If I had waited until now, it would have been $11.89 + $31.99 + $11.99 = $55.87 not even counting shipping or tax.

^They have the most volatile prices I have ever seen on used items. I have items in my wishlist that I check on a daily basis. Some titles will fluctuate from $5 to $15 just depending on what day it is. It's why I keep my wishlist updated and check it constantly, you're almost certain to eventually get it down to a sub $10 price.

re: Hastings / gohastings.com discounts and deals on Blu-ray

I got my order shipped yesterday night and contacted gohastings today because the system didn't apply HONESTABE to my order. I figured I'd wait until it was shipped to say something because my cancelation rate is averaging 1 out of 4 times with these people. They've had decent customer service and I felt like they could help. Boy was I wrong.

When I told him what happened his first response was to tell me how to enter promo codes correctly and how there were two places it could be done. I said I tried that and it didn't work. Then he said, "Well I can't help you. We can't determine if the discount applied after the order is placed." There was a brief back and forth where the guy was monotone and rude and unhelpful.

I may be wrong, but I could have sworn I had the discount applied after the order was shipped before. Further, that they can't tell is BS. On your order page they always have two prices. The Item Price (pre-discount price) and the Total Price (post-discount price). The latter is always in red. I sent an email with a photograph of my order showing no discount to the email customer service.

My question is, has anyone ever had an experience like this? Can they really not figure out the difference between a red discount price and an original item price? What a frustrating experience! I'd love to say I'll never shop here again, but I probably will.

Maybe you could try e-mailing them about how their system didn't apply a valid code to your order and then threaten to dispute the charge if they don't adjust your total to 30% off. I've had this done via e-mail when a free shipping code wasn't applied after I hit the 'Place Order' button. Luckily, I made a screencap of my 'Review Order' page showing the free shipping had been applied. You might want to breakdown what the discount should have been for each item in your order, as they will probably be clueless otherwise.

Their system is very erratic. I've read a few case on this forum of people having discount codes removed as soon as the order is placed. Personally, I've had more trouble getting sales tax refunded when returning damaged items. Customer service was completely useless in helping with that issue and I eventually had to file a claim with my CC to get it refunded. Makes it very difficult to shop with this company again, no matter how hot the deal is.

Yeah, that's a good idea. I just sent an email with a screen capture of the order showing no discount. Maybe their CS has just gone down hill since the early days.

re: Hastings / gohastings.com discounts and deals on Blu-ray

I always heard good things about their customer service, but that's usually when a disc is bad or they sent the wrong disc. I'm not sure about handling promos. As for the "Item Price" and "Total Price" my order showed a huge difference (look at my previous post) in price even though the only promo code I used was the $1 shipping code. That's because everything I ordered went up in price after I ordered. So it wasn't showing the price it was when I ordered vs. the price I actually paid. It's showing the current price vs. the price I paid. And since the prices seem to flucuate a lot, it may be difficult to tell. I'm not sure if the discount on the order receipt applies on the individual items or at the end. I believe it applies on the individual item. If that's the case, and for the reason I just listed about how the prices flucuate, they may not be able to tell if the promo was applied. My order was with a promo for shipping, so I can't look it up, and all my old orders don't seem to be saved anywhere (except for one a year and 1/2 ago that isn't in the system anymore).

I have two theories as to why the prices flucuate. One may just be a simple supply & demand (meaning the supply goes down so the price goes up). But it may be likely that different stores seem to set their own pricing for their used/clearance items. So it may be that the system looks at the lowest price of all their stores and if that one gets sold it changes to the next lowest price. That's just a theory, though. I'm not 100% sure that each store picks their prices, and since a lot of people who have a Hasting's near them say prices on the website are cheaper than in-store, it seems likely that the website does have their own pricing (but maybe there are just stores who do price them that much cheaper). I do know that stores pick their own pricing when they clearance an item (which may be the same for their Previously Viewed since they call them Clearance Rental in the store) since years ago the Hasting's near me used to clearance out stuff (usually non-media -- i.e. movies, CDs, video games) super cheap (like 25 cents for items that were originally $2-$5). They eventually stopped doing that, though, as I'm sure they were losing money. The cashier would have to manually enter the price for clearance items and a message would always come up that the price was below cost. Those were the days. Prices on used DVDs were usually super cheap, too (though not 25 cents cheap).

Good luck. Be prepared to wait a while for a response. I think it took them at least a week to get back to me the last time I sent them an e-mail.

They use amazon to determine used prices. That is why the prices change everyday. They lower the price based based on the lowest user price on amazon.

Thanks for the info! But now I feel bad for not being so nice to the CSR. And as OPGSPRING10 said, they do judge a lot of their prices based on Amazon. In fact, they ARE an Amazon marketplace seller. It's probably not a company wide policy to use Amazon, though, because I've bought products that were vastly cheaper than Amazon's marketplace. So I'm going with the store-to-store variation PLUS the Amazon marketplace fluctuation.

Hastings facebook page says they have some big online sales planned once they hit 50,000 fans. They only need about 1300 more, so those of you with facebook, please "like" them. My wishlist will thank you but my wallet will probably hate you.

You must not have tried very hard. I found it on my first guess. It's just like their website...

I put a space between Go and Hastings, I guess that was the problem. The fan site above definitely was not on the list of search results. Thanks.
