Since we have been using our library a lot more since having children, I've donated a lot of our DVD's that come with the combo packs to our local library. They greatly appreciate it and I feel good knowing they get a lot more use then sitting in our DVD binder.
I sometimes give the extra DVDs to the library or sell them — especially those first-run WB TV sets — for a bargain price: it defrays some of my cost and is way cheaper than what the library would pay when buying the DVD set. In the case of older DVDs that I upgrade to BD it is often not worth selling them on the internet, so I donate them and they go to the collection (usually) or to the used book sale shelves, a significant fund raising source. (I've been a member of the Library District Board of Trustees for eleven years, so the library also gets a lot of volunteer time and labor.)

My library gohastings.com order was to replace about fifteen stolen DVDs. I think I averaged less than $3 per title, which amazed the library Director but is no big deal to those of us here. Why anyone would want to steal beat up library DVDs is a mystery. The titles suggested a kid so I guess it was for the thrill of it.

The library DVD collection is very popular with patrons in this remote rural area with no rental stores or Redbox machines. We've had titles that got checked out more than a hundred times, although most get damaged beyond resurfacing before that. It is fun to keep an eye on the circulation numbers for new titles. The main problem we have is lack of shelf space: for every new book, book on CD, or DVD we add, another older one needs to be weeded out. Expansion plans have been put on hold due to the collapse in property tax revenues because of the drop in property values — no real estate recovery in these parts, bargains abound!

I have this notion that they disable certain products when they issue these coupons. they are a merchant on Amazon's marketplace and have noticed several times that things in stock there don't show as available during these sales on hastings site itself. even pricing is very different - sometimes MUCH cheaper on Amazon and markups on their own site. the 'Lawrence of Arabia' gift set was $44 ($22 after cpn) last night when the sale began, an hour later the price was bumped up to $53.81. Got a lot of stuff added to the cart before that - have noticed that once added to the cart, the price remains static. just some hints and strategies.

Got the following (all prices after 50%):
Killer Joe - $2.50
Lost Keaton - sixteen comedy shorts - $9.37
Graceland - $4.92
Black Sabbath (Kino) - $5.81
Black Swan - $2.71
Case 39 - $1.97
Big Lebowski (digibook) - $4.58
Disney Nature Chimpanzee - $4.68
XMen and Wolverine collection - $18
Big Jake - $5.81
Star Trek Stardate collection - $33.04
Black Snake Moan - $3.25

Had to exercise tremendous restraint as so many more were showing as in stock. That being said, the circus now begins to see what I will receive. Expecting to receive non digibook of Big Lebowski at the very least :-) :-)

Nothing I want is eligible. Oh well. Saves me some money. I wonder what the criteria is for the used stuff they add to the sale. I was excited at first since stuff I wanted was actually in stock only to find out that you have to go through the coupon link. I guess the amount of savings would be crazy if they let you choose from anything used, but there is still some pricey stuff that is eligible.

I think it was to do with the timing.. They update stock at midnight PST which is 3am EST (where I am)... so when I look at 8am EST ... there had been 5 hours to sell off the items with this sale.. as I see the email came in to my inbox around 1am EST (10pm PST).. The new stock listings of Used item inventory will go live tonight the same.. after the sale is over.. glad you were able to grab some stuff...

Hmmmm. I really tried getting something, but unfortunately one of the TV series I wanted the coupon didn't work, and many of the other single titles...I could swear they were a few bucks cheaper, so when I looked at my total, I wasn't too enthusiastic. Maybe I'll find a few titles, but too bad the best coupon I can hardly use.

What?!? How did you get Big Jake for $5.81 + 96c shipping? I've had it in my wishlist forever, and it has never once been in stock and I've never seen it that cheap even after discounts. What luck you had. Big Jake and Mclintock are my favorite John Wayne westerns. "Jacob McCandles? I thought you was dead." with his great reply "Not hardly..." And who could forget his dog named Dog or his fight with the big guy which he ends by saying "are you sure you never been to Nacadocious? Strange". So many good lines in that movie. A true classic. Chimpanzee is another good movie which I paid in the low teens for new. I'm always amazed by the magic of people catching some of these Gohastings deals. I'm not sure how other people do it. My wishlist is usually a wasteland of OOS-ness.

I completely lucked out on this sale. I have never been the early bird to a hastings party but I saw the coupon code posted before midnight I think. I was working late on some office related work and visited my wish list first as usual and there it was available. And since GH does not limit the usage of coupons on multiple orders, placed the order first. I then went to the qualifying titles list and believe it or not - scanned through all the 176 pages, while placing orders as quickly as I found the titles. Sometime in the middle, the site went to maintenance and when it came back up, some prices had gone up. Another title I should have ordered was the Lawrence of Arabia gift set for $22 after the discount. By the time, I made up my mind (since I already had it), the price went up $10. But yes, don't think I will be able to repeat this any time in the near future. And btw, all the orders have shipped.

re: Hastings / gohastings.com discounts and deals on Blu-ray

Gah! I came online when this deal rolled out, and a LOT of my wishlist remained in stock. Only thing is, it was acting like a buy-1-get-1 50% off, so I went to sleep. When I woke up again, the deal had changed to just 50% and all my wishlist were priced double what they had been.

Managed to pick up the limited edition Walking Dead blu-ray set, which ran me about $45 after shipping. Not holding my breath about it, though, because I recently ordered some Harry Potter Ultimate Editions and was sent the standard. Can't believe the same won't happen here.

Yeah, the sale is actually a B1G1@50%. So, if you get two items that are about the same price, you'll save 25% off the total sale.

They changed it to a good deal sometime in the morning. I don't know when, though. I picked up a few more titles:

Role Models BD - $1.80
True Legend BD - $3.13

For those that don't know, the 50% off sale is still ongoing. Same code(RINGITIN) as mentioned above.
