Mastercard coupon worked perfectly. After member discount and an additional 30% off, got the Qatsi trilogy for $25.17 plus tax.

Ugh they have the worst customer service ever! I tried explaining the issue through chat again and all I got was "we are not responsible for our inventory" and some other generic crap. I tried again through a long-ass email, we'll see!

oh yeah, that one... went over to the Bow Tie cineplex a few months back and it was (*poof*) gone - ugh how annoying. I find Tyson's selection of Criterion blu's disappointing when compared to Potomac Yards and Bethesda (Rockville's selection is also decent)

I'll try to be brief: I initially placed it when coupon codes still worked, so I managed to get $3 off. Paid with the gift cards I got as part of the promotion. While the order was waiting for the last 2 items to be released (City Lights and Frances Ha), the coupon seems to have 'mysteriously' disappeared from the order. So it's showing an order total $3+ higher than what's been taken from the gift cards. I chatted with customer service 2 days ago to try and see why the rest wouldn't ship (I made sure not to point out the price difference) but I have yet to hear back.

I'm probably going to have to bite the bullet and forget about the promo code, aren't I?
Good luck with that. I had the same problem last year. I called them 3 different times (twice being told they would credit me), wasting over 2 hours on the phone, and they NEVER FIXED IT! I ended up paying more than I should have.

No problems using the MC coupon (once without using a MC) at two stores today. Got Zatoichi and the Cassavettes sets.

I've never tried not using a MC in-store. Online works without issue, if paying by gift card, as long as your default payment is MC.

Do you mean in general or with the Criterion sale?

Neither. I was just talking about the ability to use the 30% Mastercard coupon without actually using a Mastercard...

I realize that, but i read it to mean you used the coupon online with a gift card as long as a MC was on file.

My question was then was this a regular purchase, or a purchase during the Criterion sale.

I think I know the answer now, though.

Oh. Yes, you know the answer already. I was only responding to Shagrath's ability to pay with something other than a Mastercard. I have used the coupon on several Criterions in-store though. But online no workie.

Two questions for an in-store purchase: are there generic 20% coupons this weekend for members that will work on top of the 50% criterion sale? I didn't see any in the B&N coupon thread. Also, separately: if I have a bank card that is a mastercard, and I don't use my B&N membership for a purchase, will the 30% discount work on top of the 50% criterion sale?

The only generic coupon currently is the 30% Mastercard coupon. Yes, you can use your MC debit card. In-store, you can use the coupon on Criterions, and also use your membership discount on top of it. The email coupons are one-time use. Those are 20% off, or 30% if using a Mastercard.

Thanks. You are right. I was thinking that the generic would not be scanned and rejected like a regular members coupon was for me recently. But I think YMMV will apply to either generic or emailed/member coupon. I'm trying a different store tonight to see if it will stack for me there. Wish me luck. If that doesn't work, then I think the my stacking days are over at my local stores.

Update: Store would not even look at the coupon tonight, so at least in my area I can no longer stack a coupon on any discounted or sale items. All cashiers and managers appear to be newly trained to not force the coupons to work like they used to do. I guess I'll just buy less.

Unfortunate. I've used coupons at 4 different north Jersey stores during the current sale, and haven't had any rejections, even at stores where it has happened before. I was wondering whether they had decided that their more restrictive recent coupon policy had reduced their sales, and were easing up a bit.

Sad news. I spent a lot of time at that store in my 20+ years living in Reston/Herndon.

Worked great for me too. Got two similarly priced trilogies for that price yesterday.

I was able to use the MC 30% off coupon for an instore, ship to home Criterion purchase (this particular BN store does not have a video section) but did not get the additional 10% off membership discount. Does the extra 10% off for members not apply to ship to home purchases?

Re: B&N 50% Criterion blu-ray sale November 5 through December 2

Used the 30% coupon four times yesterday. The only one that game me a little trouble was the unique one which beeped when entered. Luckily, the CSR somehow managed to force it through.

I don't have an MasterCard so I just bought one of thsoe $50 Mastercard Gift Cards at Walmart and used that one.
