This may have been mentioned before but I was in one of our local Big Lots and they had the 1st & Ten: The Complete Collection boxset for $6. This is a six (dual sided) dvd set with all 80 episodes.

I used to watch this show for the occasional tit as a kid so I figured it would be worth checking out again for 6 bucks.

I have seen all of these on my last few visits, as well as the widescreen version of Connie and Carla (for $4.99).

On a non-DVD related note, there are some nice prices on the Pier 1 Imports overstock items they have, if you're in the market for napkins or rugs or other assorted home items. The local stores are up to 60% off now.

Spotted LOTR - Fellowship Of The Ring WS for $4.99 at one of the Big Lots near me. I passed on it because I already own it. Too bad it wasn't the extended edition. I was hoping to get Matrix Revolutions but none were to be found.

Word of caution: I got Blade Runner for $4.99 last year there, but it was the old non-remastered snapper case edition. If its the keepcase edition with the claim of newly remastered transfer, it's worth a purchase. If not, either wait for the big box set, or shell out the extra $5 to get it from another place. The difference in picture quality is almost equivalent to comparing a VHS to a well made DVD.

I saw several of these today at the Western Hills location in Cincinnati, but nowhere near the selection above. (Mostly Bandai stuff, with a few of the Dragonball Z titles and none of the 4KIDS or Teletoon titles.) All were marked at $3.00.

Several of the titles are not very well-reviewed here and elsewhere (including Angel Tales, IGPX, DICE, and Zentrix), but I'm going to take a chance on the Overman King Gainer series, which sounds like it's a mixed bag. I only saw the first two volumes at this store, so I picked them up. I'll cut my losses if the first ten episodes don't hold my interest or leave me wanting more.

Several of the Mill Creek 20 Move Packs and multi-disc television releases spotted at my local (St. Louis Park) BL. All $6.00:

Burnt Rubber 20 Movie Pack
Cult Classics 20 Movie Pack
Gangsters 20 Movie Pack
John Wayne 20 Movie Pack
Mean Guns 20 Movie Pack
Musicals 20 Movie Pack
Roy Rogers 20 Movie Pack
Rule of the Gun 20 Movie Pack
Strange Tales 20 Movie Pack
Vampires & More! 20 Movie Pack

Best of Lucy and Friends (contains 6 ep of "Life With Elizabeth")
Best of The Beverly Hillbillies
Fun with Ozzie & Harriet
Sherlock Holmes: The Complete Series

I already had "Burnt Rubber", "Cult Classics", "Fun With O&H" and "Sherlock Holmes", so I picked up the "Musicals" 20 movie box. Still hoping to find the "Best of Bonanza" and "Buccaneers Complete Series" sets. It's all public domain stuff but the price is right, even with sales tax.

doc, how would you rate the Sherlock Holmes series? I also spoted that one yesterday. I don't expect any sort of greatness from the A/V, but is the show itself worth watching?

I think I will search for the rest of the Overman King Gainer series, too. I made it through the first disc last night, and it's entertaining enough. The dance portions of the opening song crack me up. There are only six volumes in the series, so it won't be a huge investment. I just hope the sixth volume shows up in stores.

QUOTE]

It's pretty good. Ronald Howard is an excellent Holmes. This series was actually produced in France and syndicated in the U.S. I remember it shown here on Sunday evenings in the late 50s/early 60s. I believe all of the shows are from new scripts, rather than Conan-Doyle originals. Quality is about what you'd expect for the price.

Stopped at the Airport Blvd Big Lots in Austin, TX and found more 2.00 Sony/Columbia/Tristar titles. Nothing new on Ken Cline's list, but a few I had not seen before, and a few I passed on previously. Guy at checkout said they were just put out today. I picked up:

Read My Lips
The Governess (fullscreen, didn't notice until I got home)
How To Make A Monster
The Secret Lives Of Dentists
Sin
Tube
Joe And Max
Returner
Once A Thief - all 2.00

Left behind Mifune, What To Do In Case Of Fire, My Wife Is An Actress. Baadasssss!, Virtual Sexuality, Peep Show, Perfect Husband: The Laci Peterson Story, Spider, all of which I already except the the Laci Peterson thing.

Don't know if more are releasing or if this is just an isolated event. Another Big Lots tour might be in order for missed titles.

I got really tired of looking at my Big Lots for anything good.

I did manage to scrounge up a copy of Zhou Yu's Train for the little misses at $2. But any of the other goodies I'd love to grab? Nuh-uh.

I don't know if something like this has been mentioned but what the heck.

My mom bought a DVD of what she thought was a John Candy movie from Big Lots, turns out the movie on the DVD was an old 60's movie. Don't ask me the names, I'm not sure. I just thought it was weird. I've never had that experience anywhere else. The company who made the DVD must have made a mistake, because the DVD even says it is the John Candy movie.

Was it "Seemed Like A Good Idea At The Time"? That's a 70s movie that's out in several public-domain DVD incarnations; John Candy has a bit part in it but most of the DVDs are designed to make it look like he's the star of the movie. Kind of like "Jack Nicholson STARS in Little Shop Of Horrors!"

I hope other BL shoppers confirm the possible arrival of more Sony/Columbia/Tristar titles. My closest store is very slow in putting out new DVDs, and my "loop" checking other locations is 60 miles.

I think it was.....all I remember is that the cover of the DVD has John Candy on it. My mom/grandma watched the movie on the DVD and they said they didn't even see John Candy.

Stopped at my local Big Lots tonight, and it was re-stocked with the Sony/Columbia/Tri-Star $2 titles same as Hilts'. They weren't there at the beginning of the week.

They also had 6 or 8 different Wiggles DVDs for $4 each.

Just got back from Big Lots only looking for Hard Eight but no dice. I did end up picking up Goodbye, Lenin Special Edition for $2 which was kinda sweet. The weird thing was the cashier opened the case because they have been receiving DVDs without the discs.

I haven't seen Hard Eight around here, but I have also seen the old $2.00 titles being restocked. The various Wiggles titles are also showing up at $4.00 each. I keep hoping that additional anime titles will show up and allow me to complete at least one set without having to resort to spending more (read: over $3.00 ) at Amazon Marketplace or GameStop.
