Re: The Official Borders Coupon Thread volume 2 - Updated Weekly

I was wondering if anyone in here currently has the paid upgrade
rewards plus membership and if so do you feel in your opinion
that it is worth it? Also I read that they have free shipping and
an extra 10% off online with this membership. How are these
40% off coupons handled for rewards plus customers? Is it just
40% off of the MSRP or do they take it off after the other discount
is applied?

I seen on their website that the membership is $20 with a promotion
where they will give you $10 back in "Border Bucks" to use sometime in
July. Thanks in advance for any and all info.

All the coupons comes off the full srp. The extra 10% comes off at the end of the transaction. Example the item is $100 - 40% coupon = total $60 then take an additional 10% off that. For a final total of $54.
If that was a 50% off coupon it would be 100 - 50 - 5 = $45

So the extra 10% off is actually only about 5% off the original price.

It is worth the $20 for the year only if you plan on spending a lot at borders over the year, the $10 in borders bucks is a nice bonus.

I got Borders Plus in November and I think I've saved a mint. I also had a $10 bonus.

The extra 10% off is taken off the discounted price, not the list price. Also, a website we're not supposed to talk about here (I don't know why) has been giving 6% cash back (that can change). Borders also recently was giving double Borders Bucks but that ended on June 5.

If you play it right and only use 40% and 50% off coupons and use them for the best products you can do really well. The coupons are taken off the list prices but Borders "list prices" are not always the real list prices; sometimes they're better and sometimes worse. Look for the biggest discrepancies on the downside and you can eke out a little more savings.

Borders being what it is, this may not keep up indefinitely but I've had my initial "investment" paid for many times over.

whotony & movielib: thank you both for the very quick replies and the
good info you each provided. Very much appreciated. Thanks again.

I think I'm going to go ahead and get the membership. Besides the $10
Borders Bucks if you go into the store itself to sign up they have also an
additional coupon book that they throw in.

I've been a Plus member for awhile and I've been pleased with it. With the $10 in Borders Bucks it pays for itself in no time.

With my Amazon Prime, B&N membership, and now this Borders Plus I think
I'm covered now My gut feeling is the Borders Plus with the 40% & 50%
off coupons will make it pay for itself rather quickly. I got lucky with the
Prime when a family friend asked me if I wanted to be one of four people
that could be added and didn't want any money in return or chipped in.
Then I renewed the B&N during the last round of 50% off coupons. Will
be good times ahead with these three memberships

Re: The Official Borders Coupon Thread volume 2 - Updated Weekly

Maybe if my local store was still open, I'd consider it. But I have both Amazon prime & Barnes & Noble already. And recently, everytime I've ordered from Borders lately it's not in stock & goes into limbo ("In Process"), doesn't get fulfilled. I've tried calling, but they've outsourced their customer service to an Indian call center, who doesn't have a clue & can't change anything about the order. I've placed about 7 orders in the past 3 months (with coupons)....& only 3 have (partially) shipped. After calling, I got an email about the remainder of my orders being automatically cancelled. Horrible experiences all around. Rumor has it that Borders is going completely out of business by the end of the year, so it's just not worth it.

Re: The Official Borders Coupon Thread volume 2 - Updated Weekly

Borders just shipped two of the backordered titles that I ordered a couple weeks ago with the 50% off and free shipping codes. The catch: they billed me $7.98 for the express shipping on each one! Be sure to check your shipping confirmation e-mails, folks.

Thankfully, they've already submitted a refunded for the shipping on one of the items without me contacting them about it, so it appears they caught the mistake already.

Out of curiousity, what titles were they? I just received an email today reminding me about my backorder for Dogtooth (blu-ray).

One was The Cat O' Nine Tails on BD. I'll have to check my other account to be sure of the second title, but the charge was for clearly more than anything I ordered with the codes.

I also got a few delay e-mails today -- and cancellations for a couple in-print Lions Gate titles (Alligator, Fido) earlier this week.

Re: The Official Borders Coupon Thread volume 2 - Updated Weekly

I only placed two orders and both are backordered. I was confused about the second one being backordered, because it was meant to come out last Tuesday. I just checked and it looks like Mother's Day (blu) was pushed back to September. I'm assuming that's when the remake is being released.

edit: Just looked up the remake. It was meant to come out May of last year and now there's no known release date. This movie is jinxed.

Re: The Official Borders Coupon Thread volume 2 - Updated Weekly

This is a reminder for people to use any Borders Bucks they earned during the bonus period that ended June 5. They must be used by June 25.

I earned $20 which means they did count items bought during the bonus period even if the items would not be released until after that period. Some people feared those would not count.

I used a 33% off coupon (unfortunately, they haven't had 40% or 50% coupons lately) with an extra 10% off for Plus members and the $20 in Borders Bucks to get the upcoming Gettysburg/Gods and Generals BD box set. Also got another 4% from the site that shall not be named. Total about $30.

I had a fairly large amount of money in my Discover Cashback account so I converted some of it into Borders gift cards and used them during the bonus period. Since the gift card is like cash I received Borders Bucks credit for all these purchases the same as if I paid by cash or credit. I didn't realize how much I bought until I got the email telling me I had $75 in Borders Bucks. Crazy. Sadly, I went back to my Discover account to convert more only to discover that they no longer offer Borders gift cards. Oh well. They still have B&N gift cards.

Movielib, are you sure about the June 25th date for Borders Bucks? My account says June 30th, and in my experience, I've always had until the end of the month to use them.

I remember when you got a $40 certificate for $20 in Discover Cashback. When that dropped to $25 for $20 I stopped getting the Borders credit.

But damn, $75!

I figure a 20% discount is still pretty good so I was planning to keep getting the Borders cards. Too bad they are no longer available.

I think I have a problem. In addition to the $75 in Borders Bucks I have to use by the 25th (according to the email but the end of the month according to my account), I already have $15 for July. Damn them and their coupons and clearance sale, and Plus discount.

Here's a 40% coupon if you have any Borders Bucks left that you need to use. Online code BJW6284M (good through 6/27)

Yeah, I just saw that in my email this morning. It would have saved me about $5 on the Gettysburg set. Oh well, I'll use it for something else.

Edit: Oops, this coupon is for 40% off any one book.

I tested the coupon and it didn't work on a BD.

Not that I have anything against books. Heck, I co-own three (mostly used) book (also carry CDs, DVDs and BDs) stores. But I don't need Borders coupons for books.

Re: The Official Borders Coupon Thread volume 2 - Updated Weekly

On whether the bonus Borders Bucks expire on June 25 or 30, I can't vouch for this, but here is what someone at BluRay.com says:

http://forum.blu-ray.com/movie-tv-de...ml#post4880535

I guess this is also a reminder that if you got Bonus Borders Bucks, you need to spend them by the end of Sat (6/25) or you will lose them.

It can be a little confusing since checking your rewards account online will not allow you to distinguish between regular BB's (which expire at the end of the month, 6/30) and Bonus BB's (which expire tomorrow, 6/25). They are all lumped together. However, if you call CS, they can distinguish between the two and tell you how many of each type you have.
If this is true, then you do have only until June 25 to use the Borders Bucks from the bonus period, in other words the Borders Bucks in the email.

Either use 'em or call CS to make sure.

Hmmm good to know -- thanks for the information! I have no idea which type I have, but would rather be safe than sorry, so I'll use them today

I got the email that specifically said the 25th too. I used them today on a book just to be safe.

If you decide to call CS, don't use the toll-free number as you'll never get through but dial their corporate number instead.
