Current status of Data Mining?
I've been gone for a while, but was around here a few years ago (2003-2004 time frame) when bga was mining the site. It looks like he has stopped (for whatever reason...I didn't read all 22 pages of this thread) and a couple others have been working on data mining. It seems, though, that the latest available data is from June of this year on AlfB's site. I see that he and others have been busy trying to get everything working correctly.
Anyway, just curious as to the current status of the data mining project as I now am looking at getting back into CH for some great deals. I'm willing to help if I can provide any on the project.

Datamining has stalled since (like you said) AlfB stopped posting his data. I was putting a site together to manage all this, and then AlfB stopped posting the data, so I stopped my project too. ![Frown](/images/smilies/frown.gif)
If anyone has the means to do a datamine, please bring it up. I still have no idea how to do it, but if I just had the data file, I could incorporate all this into my db.

I can probably pick up where I left off with your files before, let's start this again!
If you send it to me, I'll post it up on my site as soon as possible, and then work on trying to import all the data into my db. Please include all field data you have, I'll figure out which fields I need when importing.
Also, if there is anyway you can save the file as a csv (maybe this is what you mean by excel type file) like you did before, then it would be much easier for me as my db already imports these types of files. I don't have excel on my machine, so I'd have to probably bring it to work and try to resave it as a csv there. Or if you want you could send me both files if possible. Maybe I can post the excel file separately so people could download it for viewing on their own machines.
I have Fridays off in December, so maybe I can start working on this project again.
Here's the site, but it's over a 1 1/2 years out of date.

Thanks!

I have posted jhester's newest datamine file to my site. Get it from the News section. Keep in mind that the data in the database on my site is over 1 1/2 years old, but most of it is still useful. I will continue to work with jhester to provide newer files on a regular basis and work on getting all the data imported into my db, turning on the search function, and fixing up the site, etc.
Thanks again jhester!

Hey guys, long time no see. Sorry for taking off on you but work requirements changed and I could not keep up doing it. There were also some changes to the CH website that required me to change how I was doing the datamine. I really don't have the time to do it now either but I will be glad to give some input on how I did mine if it will be helpful for someone.

OK guys, I have a surprise and a belated Christmas present for all. I took the time to get my data miner running again and have a new update. I can't promise I will be able to keep it updated on a regular basis but will try. Enjoy and don't buy too many DVDs. Now while it is the same data miner, I had to do a few tweaks to get it running again so you need to look closely at the data to make sure its right. Post back here with any problems you find and I will attempt to fix them, again no promises.

Right on AlfB!
Sorry I didn't get back to your last post, I wouldn't have the time to work on the datamine part of it now anyway. Good thing you did! I don't even have the time to fix up my site or work with jhesters files, so thanks a lot.
Can't get to the file though. File not found on your server with that link.
[EDIT]OK, it's working now, thanks!

^That is correct. Only club with Buena Vista titles is Disney. While the overall price breakout for a fulfilled membership is not as good as CH you can do much better than "street prices" and most online vendors for the more expensive "vault" and new release titles. There is a thread for DisneyMC with some good information as long as you're willing to invest some time reading as it's not maintained with a "1st post" like most CH code threads. Info on the current "best" code (a 6/3 w/$9.95 "bonus") is here with some additional info on joining and additional, lesser quality, codes here . You have to be careful with DMC because *any* code that reduces the price of a selection below the $19.95 threashold causes that selection to *not* count towards fulfillment. But free shipping codes come up occasionally and if you filfill with one of those the cost per selection is just under $10. Not nearly as good as we've grown accustomed to with CH, but still good considering the "normal" cost of Disney/Buena Vista titles.
Anyway... I've "hijacked" this thread long enough with this. If anyone needs/wants more info go to Disney Movie Club part 5 and ask.

I notice that there's no data miner list available here. I run one for myself that is not foolproof, but it's pretty good with more than 7000 titles on it. If someone has a place to post it online, I could email them a CSV file. Also tell me what fields you want included.

The newest file is up on my site in the news section. If I can continue to get updates semi-regularly, I'll finish the work on my database. It's going to be at least a few weeks before I have to time to work on it again, but this will have to suffice for a little while.

MUCH appreciation to jhester for getting in touch with a new file.
Cheers!

Let me add my thanks as well.
For someone who just got back in the game after being away for a couple of years, this is going to be an invaluable resource.
Thanks for the work guys!
