Re: Disney Movie Club part 5

Re: the $20 Blu-ray (minimum of 3) deal:

My account is unfulfilled (although I may fulfill next month with Witch Mountain, as long as I can work a free shipping deal). I also switched back to DVD as my preferred format (decided the Blu-ray Featured Selection deals weren't as good), so maybe they're offering different deals/banners that way.

I can see the banner right on the first page. In the center of the page, on the left is the Featured Selection (well, it was, now it's an ad for the "Back to School" sale). On the right, there is a square ad that has the numbers 1, 2, and 3 at the bottom, indicating different promotions. #1 is the Blu-ray sale shown by default, clicking on #2 changes it to a "Disney Combo and Super Packs" link, and #3 is a "DisneyFile Movies" link.

I also got an email about the promotion last night (a few hours after I posted here), but I have already deleted it.

Here's the link to the page on the site (you will have to log in first):
https://disneymovieclub.go.com/webap...goryId=5006502

The movies are all listed with their regular prices gray and lined out, and with a red "Now" price underneath showing $20.

I only count 31 movies on the list, but maybe other Blu-rays show up that way, too. I have expended all the energy I feel like expending on this.

PS. My main offer is the Back to School sale for 50%-off DVDs and 20%-off Blu-rays. And I have a 15%-off-your-order offer in my "Other Offers" section. It might be interesting to see if there is some consistency to figure out who gets what offers.

Re: Disney Movie Club part 5

Cheato, that link did allow me to see the banner for the 3@$20 deal. However, I could not click on the banner, and all of the prices for Blu-ray were still the old prices, even after adding to cart. (Sigh!....)

Cheato, what kind of free shipping deal are you talking about? I've been waiting, hoping, wondering about free shipping at DMC but have never seen it offered.

I think he may be talking about the feature selection double feature that comes with free shipping. Then anything else you add to the order is also free shipping. I haven't seen a regular Free Shipping deal on 2 or more titles in quite a long time.

But like a month or two ago, I fulfilled an account with the double feature of The Tigger Movie and Tarzan for 34.95 + free shipping (Tigger counts as a fulfillment in that deal, Tarzan doesn't), and then instead of using the regular offer, I went to the "Other Offers" page, and selected the 15% off your entire order offer which is almost always there (because otherwise I couldn't fulfill with one order, because the regular offer was everything after the first selection was 50% off). Then I selected the 3 Disc Wall-E, which was already on sale due to the Pixar sale going on, and got that for 23 bucks and change as my other fulfillment, and free shipping on the whole deal.

It's not as good a deal as the 3 blu's for 60, obviously, but I'm not HD yet, and I'm really not a videophille anyway so I don't really care, it worked for what I was looking for.

I think currently the regular featured selection is already a double feature, so to get the free shipping deealio, you have to buy one of the triple features, and I don't know if that averages out in your favor quite as well.

Re: Disney Movie Club part 5

^ Yup, that's how I do it. I've fulfilled 4 accounts using the Featured Selection double or triple features to get free shipping, and then sale codes for other higher priced items to bring them down as close as possible to (but above) $19.95 so they can count as fulfillments, like a season set regularly priced at $39.95 with a 50%-off code.

If you do a cost analysis, and let the season set (or whatever that other extra item is) take on the additional overhead of the triple feature cost, it still works to your benefit. Factoring in all costs of the membership, including your enrollment package, you wind up essentially getting movies for about $7 each and season sets for about $15 each. Very similar to the CH club. That's how I've gotten Muppets, Lost, and other season sets, as well as 4 Treasures (but with some of them, like Treasures, you can't use a 50%-off code and still have them count as fulfillments; you need a 25%-off or 30%-off code to maximize your savings).

You just have to get a little lucky to get offered featured selections you actually want at the same time as decent sale codes are available.

That's the real trick. It seems like the titles offered are ones I have or ones I don't want. I'll just have to keep my eyes open and use the discounts when I can.

Re: Disney Movie Club part 5

Got this today with the Disney Movie Rewards most recent email:

Join the new Disney Blu-ray Movie Club and get 2 Blu-ray discs for $4.95 each, plus FREE shipping with your initial order (membership required).

http://links.dvdmailcenter.com/ctt?k...jgS1&mt=1&rt=0

The link takes you to the DMR web site, and when you enter, it takes you to a page that has a link to the club.

This is the addy that it took me to, not sure if it will work for others, may be member specific. Not sure if there is a way to get there except through the DMR site.

https://disneymovieclub.go.com/webap...rue&sourceId=x

The site says: Pick 2 Blu-ray movies for $4.95 each, with free shipping. Pick a bonus blu-ray for $19.95.

Terms: As a Disney Movie Club member, all you need to do is buy 3 movies at regular Club prices in the next 24 months (starting at $29.95 per Blu-ray disc), plus shipping and processing of $3.95 for the first title in each order, and $1.49 for each additional title in that same order. You may cancel your membership at any time after purchasing the 3 movies.

By agreeing to purchase at least 3 regular-priced movies in the next 24 months, you qualify to receive 2 Disney Blu-ray discs of your choice from the list of titles currently available from the Disney Movie Club for $4.95 each. Shipping and processing is free. Please allow 2-4 weeks to receive your first shipment.

YOU MAY ALSO TAKE A 3RD BLU-RAY DISC NOW AT THE SPECIAL PRICE OF JUST $19.95. PLUS YOU PAY NO ADDITIONAL SHIPPING AND PROCESSING CHARGE. This Bonus Movie will even count towards your purchase commitment, so you'll only need to purchase 2 more movies in the next 24 months instead of 3.

I thought Disney prohibited the re-selling of their club titles. So how are these guys able to sell them?

That is interesting. Most likely they are buying them through the club and then reselling them on their site. I don't know if that would be considered illegal or not. Depends on what the DMC membership agreement dictates. At the very least, I'm sure it's a violation of the membership agreement, but I doubt a swat team will be breaking down the door anytime soon.

I think DMC and other clubs watch for that sort of activity, so if they are buying to resell on a regular basis, I don't think they will be able to for long. Could be wrong though.

I don't think DMC cares about the average person who might sell a movie here and there on Ebay after watching it, but this is a little too much. I wonder if they get around it by buying copies from "other people".

From DMC website:

"Movies purchased through the Disney Movie Club are not intended for resale or other commercial purposes. Violations to this policy are strictly prohibited."

https://disneymovieclub.go.com/webap...TermsAgreement

Again, I don't think they could stop the average viewer. What they are looking for are people making a business of it, just like the example here.

What's the best enrollment code right now? Any 7:2 promo left? Thanks in advance.

The 7:2 Code is 978283, and it was valid as recently as last month when I cycled, and I haven't heard anyone report that it stopped working.

That's the best code. If you're going to fulfill with something like one of the 3 Blu's for $20 each offers, you're better off not buying the 7th DVD (even though it counts as a fulfillment, your 3 blu's will also count as a fulfillments, and if you only have 2 left to buy after enrolling, you're forced to spend an extra $20, increasing your cost per DVD). However, if that's not your plan, then by all means, buy the 7th DVD at enrollment.

I've heard that DMC cancels your club membership and basically bans you if you are caught re-selling DVDs you purchase from the club.

Not sure how they could tell the difference between what you buy at DMC and what is bought at the stores? I imagine it is the ones that set up a shop like the one posted here would be more obvious and easier to prove.

The DMC has some exclusive titles that are ONLY sold by them....so therefore if someone else is advertising and selling said titles, then obviously they got them from there and are reselling them...Disney cannot prove you got any of their regular, available anywhere titles from them if you were to choose to resell those, but those exclusives are the major red flag everyone else here is talking about...

Re: Disney Movie Club part 5

Just for VIPs I believe.

"Your highest-priced selection counts as your regular price movie (DVD must be $19.95 or more. Blu-ray must be $29.95 or more). All additional DVD titles of equal or lesser value will have the 40% discount applied. All additional Blu-ray titles of equal or lesser value will have the 25% discount applied. Free shipping valid for standard shipping only. Discounted titles are limited to 3 units per title. Multipacks, CDs, Merchandise and Club Deals are not eligible for discounts. These offers cannot be combined with any other offer or promotion. Offers end September 21, 2009."

Free shipping makes it just barely better than 50% off depending how you order.

That is true! Not sure if they really care enough to monitor places like ebay though. And if you are not a member of DMC, but get the movie as a gift, it doesn't matter anyway. Or are having others buy for you........

Re: Disney Movie Club part 5

QUESTIONS... please help.

The Nightmare Before Christmas Blu-ray is on sale right now for $28.
When it is added to cart, it does NOT count as a full priced selection.
If I order at the $28 price, does anyone know if it will be counted as a fulfillment on my account?

Also, it doesn't appear that you have the option to buy buy more than 1 full priced selection per order, so that you can get your account fulfilled in one shot. Even Columbia House offers that option .

Also, why in the heck do they give you CODES to use with your account, when the is no where to even enter a code?

ONE MORE QUESTION...
If I order the featured title 2-PACK (Race To Witch Mountain / The Game Plan) for $49.95, will it count as 2 fulfillments??

Re: Disney Movie Club part 5

Well, first, I wouldnt buy the NMBC at $28. That's high, even for the DMC. I got mine from them under the 3 for 60 deal. And it escapes me at the moment, but I feel like someone is beating the $20 price right now.

As far as I know, if you buy one movie at their asking price, sale or not, it will count as a fulfillment title. I fulfilled with the NMBC SD sometime earlier this year and I paid $24, which I believe was a sale price.

And the 2-pack counts as two movies toward fulfillment. If you get hosed on that, call customer service and they'll take care of it for you.

On a separate note, Columbia House could learn somethng from DMC with their customer service and how helpful they are. Aside from the fact that CH seems to be outsourcing their customer service jobs to India and english speaking reps are a premium, if not downright optional for the club's human resources department, the folks at CH are FAR from helpful. They dont go the extra mile for you and seldom can answer any real questions, other than a price verification or telling you what you owe (dont ask them to give you a breakdown or charges - they'll tell you their system doesnt show that).

OK, slight rant over. Back to DMC lol.

As far as the $28 for TNBC, I certainly understand what you are saying. I would love to see a 3-for-60 deal, which everyone else seems to be getting except for me. However, I'm tired of waiting for it to probably never come.
I could care less what some other retailer is selling it for though.

I use DMC and CH memberships to get discs for THE BEST AVERAGE OVERALL PRICE.
So when I sign up and get 6 DVDs for $16, those average out with the prices paid for the fulfillment titles, so that the average price paid per movie is lower than what any retailer will offer it for. Otherwise, it would be totally pointless to even join the club.

Good news about the 2-pack counting as 2. I'll hold you to that and put the order in. I don't even want either movie, but it's the only way to get free shipping, so I'll buy them and sell them off.

___

As for Columbia House, all of your points are correct, but there's nothing anyone can do. I'd rather get the discs for the best possible price, as opposed to them sinking tons of money into R&D and tacking 20-25% onto the average price per movie at the same time.
It can be VERY frustrating at times with CH, but after all these years, I'm fairly used to it.
