Thanks! Are you sure about Old Dogs? I've got the monthly mail packet here and I don't see anything about a lenticular cover for it.

Re: Disney Movie Club part 5

DMC shared my email address with abc.go.com without asking! I could find nowhere on the DMC site to set email preferences to stop this blatant SPAM practice. I demanded that the account be closed due to this privacy violation. I know it was DMC who shared the information as I use a special account for them and they are the only ones who have been given the address. I don't save enough money on Disney DVDs to put up with this kind of crap! Goodbye DMC!

Well, ABC and Disney are the same company, but it's still spam none the less.

Hm. I was wondering why I got a "Lost" newsletter all of the sudden.

Not cool.

I don't think you can close a DMC account via email. You have to call them.

Re: Disney Movie Club part 5

^^Yes

^I did it with the "contact us" link in the Help/FAQ listings (very hard to see/find - like they don't want you using it). That link is in the section:

"How do I check the status of receiving my FREE* movie?"

and says "click here to contact us"

I added the link and testing with another browser it takes you to a login page. Once you log in you're taken to the "Contact Us" form.

DON'T BE PUT OFF BY SEEING THIS:

"Please note: Our 'Contact Us' functionality is currently not working."

It *DOES* work. I've used it twice in the last week. The 2nd time was to cancel the account.

Yes, I know... but they didn't ask to share nor notify me this would occur if I didn't tell them otherwise. That's what makes it SPAM IMHO.

There is also no option anywhere on your account to tell them to *not* share email with 3rd parties (which I consider ABC to be even though Disney owns them). I don't care if it's DisneyLand, it's *not* DMC communication which makes it SPAM unless I'm asked or told it will occur with an "opt out" option.

Re: Disney Movie Club part 5

Here's what they had to say about my communication:

"Thank you for your e-mail regarding your account. Your membership has been cancelled as you requested. The notifications for the next Featured Title may already have been prepared. If you do receive the next notification you will not need to respond to it.

Again, thank you for taking the time to contact us. We appreciate your business and hope you will visit the Disney Movie Club again in the future.

The Disney Movie Club "

Not even an apology for the SPAM! At least the reply/cancellation was quick. I notified them last night about 9 and got the email shortly after 2 this afternoon.

BobO'Link....Care to share the exact wording of your letter to them? I'd like to make sure I get mine cancelled.

"I recieved a SPAM message from abc.go.com that resulted from my email address being shared by DMC. HOW DARE YOU SHARE MY EMAIL ADDRESS WITHOUT PERMISSION!

Because of the blatant breach of privacy I want this account closed immediately!"

Re: Disney Movie Club part 5

apologies if anyone else has already caught this...

last month i discovered, after declining "this month's feature selection," that there was a second feature selection waiting for me. not a holdover from the prior month, but two active, simultaneous feature selections. and had i not stayed on the site because i wanted to look up something, i would never have noticed it (i usually log off right after i get the confirmation page). sneaky!

The DMC actually often has overlapping feature selections. They aren't exactly "monthly"

I did find this in their FAQs:

YOUR PRIVACY IS IMPORTANT TO US
If you prefer that your personal contact information not be shared with The Walt Disney Family of Companies or carefully selected third parties, please call our automated opt out line at (800) 379-0830.
Still, they have no right to share our emails without our permission.

^You should be able to do this online and it should default to *off*. I looked all over the FAQs and never saw that. Just how "burried" is it?

Thanks for the message, I'll be borrowing it as soon as I verify I don't have any pending Featured Selections to decline.

And for whomever said it should default to off, it should but it doesn't, the frequency of spam from other Disney companies to my DMC address has been increasing. Fortunately, I use Gmail hosted email, so I've just been marking them as spam, and they magically disappear.

It's towards the top of the FAQ{came across it by accident}.

Re: Disney Movie Club part 5

Apparently, I forgot to respond to my featured selection of Old Dogs and it's being shipped to me. Can I just mark the package "Return to Sender" and Disney will credit my account or do I have to jump through hoops to make that happen?

Re: Disney Movie Club part 5

Hey, I have a quick question about DMC. Is there any point in registering without my credit card, but instead sending them checks? I ask this because it would only cost me $3.95 more to use checks and I've heard quite a few "horror stories" about DMC customers having their CCs charged, but they didn't order anything.

Re: Disney Movie Club part 5

^If your CC company offers "Virtual Cards" that's the way to go. Set up a re-usable card with a $$ limit. Put enough on the card to handle the enrollment offer and then put just what you need on the card when you place an order. They can't do a charge you're not expecting as there'll not be enough on the card to handle an "unauthorized" shipment. I'd say do a "one time use" Virtual card but I've had lots of trouble with those from vendors who place a temporary charge on the card and then conver it. Some do this in such a way that the "conversion" is actually a 2nd charge and they cancel the first. A "one time use" card can not be done this way. The 2nd charge will fail even though it's really a duplicate of the first.

I would advise you to do so. My wife joined several years ago. We've had several featured selections sent to us and our account charged for them--even after receiving confirmation e-mails that we declined them in time. We most recently got stuck with The Princess and the Frog 1-disc Blu-ray for way more than we could have had it with the coupons and sales and such. In fact, we were considering closing the account entirely...but then, I got to order Sin City on Blu-ray for $10.00 as part of a format upgrade promo and decided I liked DMC again.
