Re: Questions about Columbia House? Ask them here, Part II

^Sounds like your account has been closed for "non-fulfillment" and/or other reasons. Usually they charge your CC and send vouchers for the number of selections for which you were charged. Did you also take advantage of some of the code "glitches" during that time? If so, it could be a combination of several things.

And... 5(?!?!) fulfillments! OUCH! Before you try another account you need to read the enrollment code thread.

Re: Questions about Columbia House? Ask them here, Part II

I got a quick question that I'm sure has been answered before. I understand why CH doesnt carry Disney titles, but why don't they carry a movie like Gone Baby Gone? Which companies other than Disney do they not carry?

Gone Baby Gone is a Miramax title, which is a subsidiary of Disney, thus not carried.

The main studios Columbia House doesn't carry is everything under the Disney umbrella (Miramax, Touchstone, etc), HBO and Lucasfilms. The FAQ should include a complete list.

Re: Questions about Columbia House? Ask them here, Part II

thank you for your reply. I wasn't going to join the Disney club due to not really wanting 7 of the ones they offer to open an account, but if Gone Baby Gone and other Miramax are available, maybe I'll look into it more. Once again thanks for your reply

Some enrollment codes will allow a "bill me" option, although I don't recall which ones. And when applying by phone, one can ask the CSR for the bill me option. When applying or ordering using "bill me" one just pays the invoice when the DVDs are received, by sending a check or money order. [Or one can pay with a credit card through one's on-line account.]

The downside of "bill me" versus a credit card is that Columbia House will sometimes hold shipments until previous shipments have been paid for. Also, they will charge a late fee if the bill isn't paid promptly.

Re: Questions about Columbia House? Ask them here, Part II

Ok, so here is a question relating to their Blu-ray B1G1.

One of my orders switched to a Bill Me option. I did not make the change. It also changed the items I still have on order to show "Scheduled To Ship 12/16/2008 ". Since some of them are Pre-Orders that is obviously wrong.

Little Miss Sunshine $0.00
Office Space $26.21
Appaloosa $0.00 (I already paid for the B1 of this part of the order)

Those are the titles I am still waiting on to finish the order. What should I do? It bothers me, and has me concerned that some kind of error in their system has messed up my order.

Likewise, in another order this is a problem I have seen:
Nick & Norah's Infinite Playlist - Scheduled To Ship 12/16/2008

That was another free one for which I already paid for the B1 part of the order. Ironically, the B1 was Walk Hard which I would never have paid $30 for just on its own.

This is really making me worry about what has happened to these orders of mine. This second order also switched to Bill Me as my payment option.

I just sent them an e-mail. Hopefully that will help solve this.

If the balance on My Account page is in parenthesis ie. (9.95) does it mean it's a credit?

I recently had a damaged disk replaced and they billed my cc again with no refund to the cc for first.

Thanks for responding

I got an e-mail back from customer service but it was pointless, so I'm thinking what you described is what happened. And yeah I did do some of the code glitches, so yeah...

At this point, do I just wait for them to charge my cc? Is my account officially canceled? And do they always keep accounts open a while after the purchase requirement date passes?

Don't have a clue. It may never be charged if they've closed your account.

Probably.

They normally bill you or charge the CC on file for the number of outstanding selections plus shipping and leave the account open. If the account has been closed you *should* see something like this at the top of the page when you log in:
This account has been closed. Your limited access to columbiahouse.com
allows you to make payments and manage credit card only.

Your Outstanding Balance Is: (dollar amount)

Re: Questions about Columbia House? Ask them here, Part II

I'm applying for my first membership. I applied online and they just sent me a rejection letter. They said the plan I applied for is no longer accepting applications. The plan they want me to apply to now is for 7 @ $0.49, with 1 bonus @ $14.95. But I'm obligated to buy 4 more over the next 2 years.

Math has never been my strong suit. But even if I get BOGO deals on the remaining 4 DVDs I order, I'll be paying just over $6 a DVD. The plan I originally applied for would have ended up costing me about $4.80 a DVD.

They also want to charge Shipping and Processing for my enrollment order. I don't think the other enrollment plan did that. Am I getting screwed or is it still a decent deal? Six bucks a DVD isn't bad, after all. It's just not as good as 4.80.

OK, so the plan you applied for is no longer accepting applications.
Many others are.
The one they offered you, of course, sucks.
Check the Enrollment Codes thread for alternatives.

is there anyway to access their entire catalog with prices without joining first?
that way i can see what i will get for free and what i will buy to fulfill my enrollment.

also, if anybody can tell me the selection # and price of the 4-disc and 5-disc blade runner dvd set, i'd really appreciate it.

thanks
So far as I can tell, Columbia House carries only two versions of Blade Runner:

4796504 Blade Runner: The Final Cut Special Edition (2 DVDs) $19.95 (available for enrollment)

4890505 Blade Runner: Complete Collector's Edition [Blu-ray] (5 discs) $29.96 (not available for enrollment)

How does the "Go paperless" thing work? I chose that option and it said to select a free dvd, but in my cart it says $9.95. What's the deal? Do you have to make another purchase or can you just select the free dvd?

I had already entered my email when I signed up online, but I read on these forums that someone changed their preference to snail mail and then changed it back to email and got the free dvd. That's what I did.

Did you choose the DVD from the list of eligible DVDs they provided when you followed the link that said that you qualified for the free DVD, or did you just search for the DVD and then put it in your cart? If the latter, then I think you missed out.

I chose Jarhead from the list they showed me.

Re: Questions about Columbia House? Ask them here, Part II

My last account I signed up without an email then went in and changed to paperless. It gave me the free DVD link, but like you they all came up at full price. I got to reading the details on the free DVD offer and it showed an expiration date (12/31/08 I think) so it may be that the deal is gone and they just neglected to remove it.

I'm trying to open a second account. I applied on 2/3/09 but haven't heard back from them yet. If I apply a third time but then they suddenly accept my second attempt, will they just blow off my third attempt?

Does that make sense?

I think you should be a bit more patient. Give it at least a couple weeks.

But yes, if they accept the 2nd or 3rd attempt and give you a 2nd account, they'd deny the other attempt.

Re: Questions about Columbia House? Ask them here, Part II

Do the codes posted in the codes thread work on the TV club as well as the regular DVD Club? Always? Hit and miss? I'm thinking about joining again. I don't know whether to sign up for the TV or regular club. Unless codes work on the TV club, I'd probably avoid.

^ Yes, sale offer codes generally work the same in both the regular DVD club and the TV Edition of the DVD club. Except for enrollments, the clubs are much the same.

Re: Questions about Columbia House? Ask them here, Part II

Can someone tell me on the B1G1 sales how do you make the more expensive one free? I noticed on the Sales Offers page people saying they paid for the 19.95 selection and got their 24.95 selections free.

TIA!

Re: Questions about Columbia House? Ask them here, Part II

I have a tv membership right now. I haven't been able to get any of the b1g1 codes or discount codes to work. With the discount codes work on box sets or only dvds? Do I need to fulfill my account before I can get the b1g1 codes work? Just wondering before I try to just fulfill it with two box sets and get reamed for shipping
