Ok say I have fullfilled my membership but I have pre-orders waiting to be shipped. Do I need to wait till everything has shipped to cancel my membership and cycle it?

I'd wait to cancel. If the preorders are the fulfillments you have no choice, but even if they aren't I'd wait. I'd guess it would be much easier to fix problems with the preorders, should any arise, if the account is still active.

If that's the only account you have open you can go ahead and start a second one. You're allowed two accounts.

If they say fulfilled then you should be able to cancel if you choose to. I always wait in case problems come up, as I mentioned above, but that's a personal choice. I'm sure other people would cancel in your situation and start new accounts.

Columbia House doesn't seem to allow you to buy the two disk versions of popular films as part of enrollment...can't get Indy 4, Iron Man, Dark Knight...

I'm sure you all have figured out some way around this... Someway to still get these films cheaply through CH.

Any suggestions please.

Thanks.

Just buy them as part of your B1G1F (waiting for the best codes) fulfillments.

But wouldn't I be paying for the more expensive disk - the double disk - as the second disk?

^Possibly. You just have to work the deals correctly. With the right code and B1 selection it's possible to spend as little as $19.95 and *still* get a more expensive set like the Iron Man 2 disk free, you just might have to wait quite a while before it comes up. Also keep in mind that the more expensive disks used as the B1 portion allow for more expensive G1 titles. With a B1G1 code you could, for example, purchase The Dark Knight 2 disk and get Iron Man 2 disk free.

CH does not have Indy 4, they don't stock it. No version of TDK is available for enrollment yet, won't be until March 9th or after , and even the 2-disc likely won't be available for enrollment. To get an expensive two-disc like that for cheap, wait for a B1G1 sale, and get a pre-order for $19.95 or something similar to get that for free. Read around the forum, all the answers are here.

When they get the damaged DVDs back they credit the charge back to the account. Pretty simple, but it takes a few weeks.

I never understood the fear about being blacklisted. If the problem is due to a CH mistake (and we all know how poorly packaged multiple disc orders often are) they don't have a problem with fixing it. If the problem is due to the customer, "buyer's remorse" for example, that is another matter entirely. Too many returns like that and the account will get flagged eventually.

I gave them a partial pass on the latest damaged discs. I got two BDs with broken hubs (shipped loose in a huge box of course). I had them replace one and just kept the other, rather than have to mail them both back. Someday I'll come up with a replacement case for the one with a broken hub I kept. The disc was fine.
I just received an intro package and one of the DVD's was all scuffed and marked but not floating.

Anyway, called CH and got hold of a person and their sending me a replacement without having to send back the damaged disk. The CS rep said since it was my 1st return on this account not to bother sending it back.

Why are you so excited about this? Sending back movies is easy.

Re: Questions about Columbia House? Ask them here, Part II

I've just recently happened upon this site, and have learned a great deal by reading several of the stickied posts (all the information available is much appreciated, by the way) and was just wondering if someone that is a "veteran" of this could confirm that I'm understanding some things correctly.

Ok, when looking at the list of CH DVD's, it lists the club price, and the sale price. To obtain the sale price you must first purchase another item at full or club price, correct? For instance a set I'm interested in has a club price of 42.95, but as this would satisfy both fulfilliments, I would be best served to not purchase anything at the "sale price", correct?

Also, there is no minimum time period to remain enrolled is there? I would prefer to get in, get the movies, fulfill the requirements, and get out as quickly as possible. And also, if I were to fulfill as soon as I was accepted, would this be enough time for CH to send a Director's Selection to me?

And the sales offers such as B1G1, those aren't rare or infrequent are they? Generally speaking, there should be an available B1G1 code whenever I am accepted, right?

Sorry to have included so many questions, but I did consult the stickies first, and for the most part I am just trying to confirm that I am understanding correctly. Thanks in advance, and also thank you for supplying as much readily available information as there is!

Re: Questions about Columbia House? Ask them here, Part II

1) To get the Sale price, you have to follow the terms of the deal that you currently have active in your account. Sometimes the deal is "40% off all DVDs and sets." That means that the sale price is automatic, even if you don't buy anything at regular club price. Sometimes the deal is "Buy 1, get 60% off additional DVDs," so you have to buy one at regular club price before the discount kicks in for the other titles. Just read the Details (follow the link on the deal banner) of the deal to see how it works. You can change your deal by entering the different sale codes you find in this forum in the "Sale Codes" thread. When something is in your cart, you can choose to exclude it from a deal so that it will still count as a fulfillment title. I have never seen a mathematical reason to do this, though; I can't see how it could ever be to your financial advantage.

2) No minimum time. This is the preferred practice for most people here. It's called "cycling" accounts. I don't quite understand why you're asking about "enough time to send a Director's Selection." They won't send it if you decline it, so who cares if they have "enough time?" You're not going to cycle an account in 2 days. If nothing else, when dealing with CH, you're going to have to learn patience. And you're going to have to accept the possibility of getting terrible service. It just stands to reason that you're not going to average out at $5 DVDs and $15 TV season sets while getting good service and fast delivery, right? If you go into this with the wrong frame of mind, you will be disappointed and frustrated.

3) Common, but no guarantee. Check the Sale Codes thread and you can see the dates the codes were posted and people's posts regarding the success of using them. For all we know, they could discontinue them completely next week or next month or next year, or they truly could become account-specific, meaning they couldn't be shared here.

^^And to add to what Cheato says in #2. You *really* want to make sure you actually get what you've ordered and it's all OK *before* you cancel/close an account. It's just easier. In doing this you'll typically have an account open for 4-6 weeks before closing depending on what you've ordered. As far as Director's Selections, log in about once a week and decline any that show up.

^Those were pretty good questions and not the FAQs we usually see. Good luck with your Columbia House memberships.

On the last one, B1G1F sale offers have been quite frequent for many years now. So much so that we assume them as a given when calculating the $4.80 per DVD average cost for a 7:2 membership. But, as Cheato says, that could change. Unlikely, but one never knows.

Re: Questions about Columbia House? Ask them here, Part II

Every time I log in it takes me to the Make a Payment/Account Statement page. Then every link I click on from there (except the Sign Out and Canadian Residents links) just reloads the Make a Payment page. I can't get anywhere else on the site.

Screen cap: img300.imageshack.us/img300/623/chpagequ9.jpg

So, has anybody else had this problem?

Mine's working ok. You might be logging into an old, cancelled account. I get the payment screen immediately when I try to access a recently closed account.

^^If it's not a recently closed account clear you cookies and try again. Cookie problems associated with page loads/refresh are fairly common with CH.

Ok, cleared my cookies, still the same thing. My account is only like a year old and I didn't cancel it. Would CH cancel my account for some reason?

I might as well divulge some info, too. Maybe it'll help. I was supposed to complete my purchase requirements (5 at club price) by Oct. of 2008. It didn't happen for various reasons. At that point I didn't really care anymore and figured CH would just charge my credit card. Well nothing happened, except at that point, there was no place saying I had to complete the requirements by a certain date, just that I still had to purchase 5 at club price. The last activity on my account was at the end of November '08 and I ordered 14 dvds and only got 11 of them, and they only gave me credit towards 2 of my purchase requirements.

So, I don't know if this stuff will help, but hopefully it'll make things somewhat clearer about my situation. I also sent an email to customer service, and am hoping to hear from them soon.
