New SC and stuff.....

Yeah, they both do. The single disc has the standard top loader with some nice foil effects (seperate WS and FS versions). The 2 disc edition of Spiderwick (a good movie btw, not just for kids) has a slipcover but it's a side loader with a faux wrap around banded seal. I like the single disc SC better but of course will have to get the 2 disc version for purist reasons.

Also, Vale, i'm watching 10,000 BC right now as a red box rental (best way to screen what's purchase worthy and what's not IMO). I didn't see it in Best Buy as a 2 disc. I'll check more closely tomorrow. But that sounds cool.

Also, and with this statement comes my last drops of testosterone, did you say Xanadu has been rereleased with an SC? I actually liked that movie when it came out.

Oh, Pridestick, i finally got your "Night at the Museum" 2 disc lenticular. I'm gonna check my PMs to see if i still have your address but you might need to resend. If i've got it, i'll mail it out tomorrow...

Lastly, i think Walmart is out to just cripple this site. I saw a TON of special 4th of July slipcovers featuring war movies like "Private Ryan", "Flags of our Fathers", "JFK" all with "America Pride" Walmart slipcovers... i honestly don't even think these are worth tracking considering how many Walmart throws out there. BUT i did get the "Hard Candy" DVD with slipcover in the $5 bin....pretty good deal, i'd say.

Hey Vale,
Since i've already dissolved the shroud that is my manhood by asking about Xanadu in my previous post, i'm letting it all hang out now...

Where did you see the Xanadu DVD? Best Buy has it as online only and i'm really hoping this isn't another Suncoast exclusive thing....

I picked up my copy at the Glendora, CA Best Buy. They had at least 8 copies. When I checked online, I saw that several stores in my area had copies as well.

The slipcover is really groovy with shiny glitter embedded around Olivia Newton-John.

Thanks pal, i don't see why in the world this would be an East Coast/West Coast thing, but then again, i didn't see why "Sleepover" was either. I'll check my local 5 or so BBs tomorrow, but if i can't find it, do you think you can grab me one and i'll paypal you or whatever?

Now that i know there's glitter involved, there's no turning back...

I saw that Hard Candy w/ slipcover here too. Only had a couple of copies. I didn't see the film, nor am I a huge Ellen Page fan but I knew a friend who was and told him to go get it for $5. Good deal. That was the only new slipcover I saw on the $5 rack, but they had some other new dvds too.

And at Walmart out to get us. I haven't been since monday, but I didn't notice any 4th slipcovers. If anyone wants to track them, and there is a huge amount, might be better to just take a camera phone and snap some pics (unless in bin) to remember later. Though I can say that I won't be rushing there to buy any. I'd probably rather have the original anyway, but I can't say that for sure as I have not seen these new ones.

EDIT: PM sent, Snapon. Thanks!

OK, can someone please pick me up a Xanadu WITH Slipcover (should go without saying i guess considering the forum and i will Paypal you or money order you plus give you a slipcover you need if i have it or can get it.

I don't think of the DC area as necessarily a black hole for technology but Circuit City, Target and Best Buy have exactly ZERO copies of Xanadu. CC said it's on order, BB has it only as online. I'm going to FYE tomorrow (need to get the steelbook "Sweeny Todd" anyway). So, before the initial wave of slipcovers is gone, could someone grab me a Xanadu please. Thanks. I feel so stupid having to ask for a new release like this but it's really wierd. If anyone else is in Northern VA, DC or MD and has seen it, please let me know. I did get the 2 disc SC version of "10,000 BC" today (Thanks Vale). Also, Best Buy is selling the 2 disc collector's editoin of the "Red Dragon" director's cut for 9.99. That's a hard version to find. The last one i had was the stupid bi-lingual copy from Canada, so i grabbed it. Also, got the 2 disc D-cut of "The Wild Bunch" which i'm 99% sure has a sc but it came out a few years back. Or if you can find the Peckinpah 4 film box set, i believe you'll get a slipcover that way. But it's been a very long time since i've seen one for the Wild Bunch. T

Then again, if Xanadu is any indication, you all could be out there just swimming in Wild Bunch slipcovers and i'd never know it. Really pisses me off why geography should matter in DVD release distribution. Population and market demographics i can see...but this is DC, we've got a few people living here.

Anywhoo..enought ranting. If anyone can help with the Xanadu or Wild Bunch, drop me a PM or reply and i'll iron out the details. Thanks in Advance...

*** Oh, as an adjunct to the whole Walmart slipcover saturation conspiracy. Add Target to the black list. They have now (in addition to their ugly "red" selective series) a "I Love the 80s" series much like Best Buy did that not only adds a slip cover to movies from the 80's like Platoon, Clue, She's Having a Baby, etc. It also brings the totally unique and novel approach of adding an 80's CD sampler. So if you all still have the need to hear "Come on Eileen", "Safety Dance" and "Girls Just Wanna Have Fun", this is for you. The different thing about these sets (unlike BB), the DVD case artwork have also added the "I Love the 80's" border to the cover art so it matches the slipcover.

For my 1 1/2 cents, Vale. I'd say if you want to mention the "Series" as a self contained entity, that would be more than enough instead of listing out every movie, just make a foot note that Target has an "I Love the 80's" series with slipcovers.

I could be confusing this with 2 disc "Magnificent Seven" since the both came out around the same time a few years back. I remember wanting the Peckinpah 4 film box set, and noticing the slip covers but i've been wrong plenty before, so i'm gonna defer to the concensus. Just let me know if anyone else remembers a Wild Bunch slip cover. Like i said, it's been a very long time since i've seen one for the Wild Bunch, if it did have one at all.

Oh, Pridestick..."Night at the Museum" lentic went out yesterday. And yes, Ghost Rider 2 disc and single disc each had a slip cover. The 3 disc from Circuit City even had a custom box for their 2 disc plus a seperate 3rd DVD case (which is what i have). But i do have an extra of the single disc WS if that helps.

I think I saw a Xanadu w/ slipcover at the Reston BB yesterday. Probably won't make it back there for several days due to work, but maybe you can call them? It was in the new release section.

I picked up Wild Bunch when it first came out and I never saw one with a slipcover.

THAT is a great idea! I may do this in the next update.

Thanks!

Glancing over the slipcovers under the FYE heading, I couldn't help but notice that the 30 Days of Night Exclusive 2-disc Edition was not there. This slipcover housed both the regular 30 Days of Night dvd plus an extra dvd called 730 Days of Night.

Really?? Reston? That's right where i work, i'm always there didn't see anything. BUT i did find Xanadu (got the last copy) about 30 miles south (forced to visit Manassas, Trevor..inside joke for Northern Virginians).

So I've got Xanadu, thanks for everyone who looked around for me.

Do you have a picture of that version Jnyahay? I'm still keeping a lookout for your slipcovers, but nothing yet.

I really like 30 days of night right until the end...can't say i'm a fan of the ending, but if the 2nd disc is worthy, looks like i'll have something new to obsess about.

Hey, thanks for looking out for me.
If you go to my dvds, you'll see it listed or do you want me to post it??
Either way it is a hard disc to find but believe it or not, I believe they still have one at my local FYE. I got real lucky and found a Beowulf Steelbook and a Vacancy 2-disc last week there buried behind some stuff. If interested let me know.

I haven't been out today, but I'm surprised the Drillbit Taylor didn't have one. I thought there was a 2-disc of it (which is stupid IMO) but maybe not.

A few additions I saw today at Wal-Mart that I didn't see on the master list:

Sex and Death 101
http://www.amazon.com/Sex-Death-101-Marshall-Bell/dp/B0013F2ESM/ref=pd_bbs_sr_1?ie=UTF8&s=dvd&qid=1215042646&sr=8-1

Tin Man (2-Disc Collector's Edition)
http://www.amazon.com/Tin-Two-Disc-Collectors-Zooey-Deschanel/dp/B0010X744G/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&s=dvd&qid=1215042729&sr=1-1

Sea Monsters: A Prehistoric Adventure (I think this one was lenticular, I can't remember. Maybe someone else that goes to Wally soon can confirm)
http://www.amazon.com/Sea-Monsters-Prehistoric-Liev-Schreiber/dp/B0014VPFIG/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&s=dvd&qid=1215042844&sr=1-1

That's all I saw that I remember from today, though I think all 3 have been out for a couple weeks or so.

From what I saw at Wally today:

Superhero Movie (Only saw one kind)
Sleepwalking
The Mummy Returns 2-Disc

I didn't see any other new ones. Superhero might have more editions though.

EDIT: And I forgot about Batman Gotham Knight, it might have one.

DOUBLE EDIT: FIXED TITLE TO CORRECT TITLE: Sleepwalking

Batman Begins, Superman and other random stuff

Van Wilder is one of those frustrating films with a million incarnations mixed in with direct to DVD sequals...i'll check around for "The rise of Taj" but the best slipcover (imo) is the 2 disc unrated version of the original with "enhanced" mammary glands (or in medical terms, boobies) giving the cover an actual 3D "feel"..not lenticular, it's actually a "puffy" slipcover. Here's a pic...use your imagination for the enhanced portion...

Couple notes..
for all you Batman Begins fans who missed out on the Best Buy lenticular cover with the flying bats..they have a new gift set this week where they repackage the same slipcover around a new image frame and add some lobby cards and some money cash for the "Dark Knight".
Here's a pic of the Blu-ray version (the standard DVD looks exactly the same)...

It's pretty cool looking, but even cooler is the slip cover for the 2 disc version of the all new PG-13, animated "Gotham Knight"...it's a fold out with a lenticular backsplash

Of course, to add to our headache, Best Buy has this in a steelbook version as well (with an exclusive bonus DVD)....

Speaking of superheroes, Vale, i know you did extensive research on this awhile back, but Best Buy has the 2 disc Superman Returns with the DK book in the embossed slipcover for $7.99!! Wasn't there like a bizillion slipcovers for Superman Returns? I know i have the lenticular one and now the embossed one, but didn't Circuit City have a 3 disc version...Seriously, Van Wilder and Superman Returns could have their own thread...

Also, on sale at Best Buy is "The "Hills Have Eyes 2" unrated with it's nice embossed sc. I see the the first unrated THHE is on the master list, is this the one on the list? The "blood pack" slipcover or are there 2 dfferent versions?

...if so, i might like a trade cuz Best Buy didn't have any of the first movie with slipcovers (any version)...

So, what i've seen this week for slipcovers is...

The Mummy (2 Disc Collector's Edition)
The Mummy Returns (2 Disc Collector's Edition)
Superhero Movie (Theatrical Release...Target only so far)
Superhero Movie (Extended Edition...same as above but with silver border)
Batman Begins giftset (maybe not a slipcover by definition because it holds the entire contents of the gift set therefor making it an essential container much like Best Buys "300" gift set with the helmet). Oh, and talk about making me feel old..the gift set also gives you a free 128 Mb flash drive with Dark Knight images embedded. So with Lobby Cards, Movie cash and other goodies..you get a flash drive...wow, anyone remember 3.5 inch floppys and their whopping 1.44 Mb...and how expensive they were..i need a nap.
Gotham Knight 2 disc (Gatefold with lenticular backsplash)
Sleepwalkers (Target only so far)

That's it for now...
