Re: Needed : Sticky thread listing "ordinary" DVDs which are OOP and valuable

Here's a few from E-bay which people are bidding high:
'The Daytrippers'
'Condorman' (1981) [5 people know it and like it enough to bid it up to $76]
'Scarlett' (the made for TV sequel to 'Gone With The Wind'
plus a few 'Godzilla' movies: 'King Kong Vs. Godzilla', 'Godzilla vs. Monster Zero', and 'Godzilla's Revenge' (at least)

How's about some kinda thing where you put the ones that are back in print ('Army of Darkness', 'Clownhouse', 'Dawn of the Dead', 'Take the Money and Run') or coming back in print (like 'Forgotten Silver') in italics? Just a thought, and I assume there are others.

I will take your suggestions into consideration - including the last several DVDs which I haven't had time to research yet, been very busy the last couple days, probably won't have time to update until Monday.

I have been trying to make some kind of notation when something is coming back into print. In the case of AoD, the LE has still held its value even after the boomstick edition came out, so I probably would leave that alone.

Geez - I just noticed that "The Return of the Pink Panther" which I got out of the Wal-mart dump bin for $5.50 earlier this year is now going for upwards of $30 sealed at Amazon (though there is 1 copy for $18). Prices on ebay are all over the map, completed sales as low as $6-7 and as high as $18-20. It just went OOP on 6/27 according to Hometheaterinfo, so maybe a lot of the sellers aren't even aware and aren't protecting their prices with reserves or decent starting bids.

Sorry I still haven't had a chance to update the list, I have been busy - but I did find some killer deals today while scouring pawn shops and other used places for the first time in a couple weeks:

Romper Stomper 2-disc - $11.99 (EB Games - the rest were from Gamestop)
Reservoir Dogs Mr Pink Cover - $9.99
Snow White Platinum (no cover) - $16.99
Toy Story $11.70 (Version from the Ultimate Toy Box)

And last week I received my $9.38+shipping (under $12 total) copy of "Big Trouble in Little China SE" I bought from half.com came and it is perfect (except for minor rippling of the clear cover - and judging by pictures on ebay, that is common).

Found 2 copies of Blues Brothers for $9.99 each and Rocky Horror 2-disc for $15! Thanks for the list The stores to search are Game Stop and Coconuts. I've had by far the most success with Game Stop in the past.

Also, Snow White for 16.99 with no cover isn't really a great deal - my copy with cover went for only 11 and change on ebay since there are tons of them available right now. It's their most common OOP title.

I just did a search on completed items on eBay, I see very few have sold for less than $25 used or $30 new, there are a couple for less than $20 but most of the cheap ones are 1-disc Asian imports (and a couple of them went for almost $20). Additonally, many of the pictures don't have a coverslip, which I would expect them to show, so I wouldn't be sure they have them. I don't know if Snow White was similar to Pirates of the Caribbean in that some retailers sell it without the coverslip.

And a lot of the cheap ones inflate the shipping - I saw one the last time I searched with "Buy it now" for $15 with $10 shipping.

Sounds to me like you sold yours way too cheap.

It doesn't ? Woo-hoo, I had never seen one before, I just assumed it did like Lion King and Beauty and the Beast.

Thanks!

As for Godzilla's Revenge, it would be the Simitar DVD that would somewhat collectible. I say somewhat because Classic Media sells that title now (but only in full screen).

Monster Zero (also from the now out of business Simitar) is the most valuable, but that value may vanish before long. Classic Media is reportedly looking to release that title itself sometime in the near future, though no official announcement has been made yet.

Hey all,

As mentioned earlier, I took the liberty of adding a link to this thread in the FAQ section of the Used DVD treasure Hunt Lounge thread here in our Exchange Forum. I heartily recommend that any fans of this thread check out the Used DVD Treasure Hunt and the Lounge. That is the best place on this website to find OOP titles such as those listed here for incredible prices. OOP Criterion Silence of the Lambs for $17.95 shipped is but one example of a recent deal to be found there.

Again I am sorry that I haven't had a chance to update the list yet, but I did add "The Best of the Blues Brothers" (the older release from United American Video). Just so that y'all who postd suggestions don't think I am ignoring you.

Just an FYI on the Cowboy Bebop box set. Bandai Ent. released the series in region 1 as a 6 dvd set, *not* as a 3 disc set. There are many many pirated 3 disc sets that are circulating around, but they are bootlegs. The only legit US release has 6 dvds for the series. They were also released in the "Perfect Sessions" box that is being mentioned.

Found another one on the list today - Chariots of Fire, sealed! - $6 at a pawn shop!!! (Also snagged a pristine Monsters Inc. 2-disc set for $7 at the same place - not a rare collectible, but a nice buy).

I think this is my best find yet. Recent completed sales at eBay range from $40-50, Amazon marketplace sealed copies go $75 and up. DVDs123 database is down for maintenance so I can't check there (Edit : $31.60).

Sorry I still haven't updated the list, I have been busy. OK - I have been lazy, all right? But I will get to it - keep the suggestions coming, and feel free to post any nuggets you find.

If you want the easy way to sell it, dvds123.com is now paying over $37 for it - up $6 since I sold them mine. That is actually higher than most of the recent;y completed sales on eBay - there are a couple between $40-50, but there are more in the $25-35 range. (Two clueless individuals w/excellent feedback sold genuine R1 copies for $8 and $12.99 - buy it now.)

OTOH, they actually dropped the prices they are paying for the sequels - Karate Kid II from $27 to $15.

I think the Star Wars: Episode I isn't OOP or anything anymore. Saw tons of them at Best Buy.

Liquid Sky is one that is getting some very high prices... Amazon Marketplace has a used one for 199, and a new for 299. The Ebay listings look like they are going around 100 or so.

And I even have 3 copies (2 sealed!)

BTW, most "Import" listings at Amazon, especially for anime and any expensive OOP titles, are pure bootleg garbage.

I see it listed at some online retailers, but it's still listed OOP at Hometheaterinfo.com, still out of stock at Amazon and DDD, and still listed for high prices at Amazon ($30 and up).

I wonder if some retailers were holding stock in warehouses waiting for the trilogy to be released. No one is giving it away - lowest price listed is $23.41 shipped for the WS version.

OOP just means that it's out of print, which is to say, they're not printing any new copies up. It was announced in advance that it would be going out of print, so it's probable that some stores ordered plenty before it went out of print, since there was no limitation on the production until then. But episodes one and two are definitely *technically* out of print.

That said, Fox also often cuts deals with Best Buy to make OOP titles available exclusively at Best Buy, such as the two-disc 'Fight Club' or 'The Abyss'. So it could be that too (but I expect Lucas has more control than would allow that.)

FYI, all copies of Episode 1 at Best Buy should be the Full Screen version. The WS version has been OOP for a while.
