There are substantial differences between the current double-secret probation release and the CE. The CE was in mono and had very bad audio quality, the new one is in DD 5.1. There are a couple new extras which are supposed to be quite funny. The video / audio ratings at WS review are substantially higher - 3 and 3.5/5, vs 2.5 and 1 for the old one.

There are two versions of this... The older one was Widescreen, from Pioneer, while the new one is Pan & Scan only.

It wouldn't be so bad that they opened the matte (not *quite* pan and scan), but they also dropped *all* the extras, including a commentary with the cast and crew.

Return of the Pink Panther should be on there - goes for ~35 on ebay, and it's fairly available in the used bins.

Hmmm - I thought I had put it on there, I know I mentioned it somewhere (maybe in the Walmart bargain bin thread). I have "A Shot in the Dark" on the list - they are all OOP and worth some money, even though the Pink Panther Collection is available.

Edit: Actually, prices seem to have dropped on all but Return and Shot in the Dark.

I recently noticed that Steve Martin's "The Jerk" is now out of print. Some people might not care since it wasn't OAR, but if you can find a copy in a store at a cheap price it might make good trade bait for something else you may want. Amazon.com itself has no copies for sale but their marketplace sellers have new and used copies starting at $26.95. The only other online DVD retailer with copies for sale that I found poking around was DVDEMPIRE link and currently the price is $15.39 but the DVD pic they show is for the older released version, not the one released last year. Both versions are oop though. I browsed some completed Ebay auctions and a person on Jan.15 paid $28.99 for a new and sealed copy...

I recently sold some cheapies I bought for quite a hefty profit. I think I paid around $5 each for these and unloaded them on ebay a couple of weeks ago. The auctions closed with Buy It Now within a matter of hours. Both of these are Laserlight releases.

The Best of The Wonder Years went for $54.95
Wonder Years: Christmas Wonder Years (The Holiday Episodes) went for $24.95

I believe an SE version of The Jerk has been announce (I think for this year), so the demand for the current release will not likely be very high (except for those, of course, who don't follow DVD releases or prefer FF).

Added The Jerk and Casino.

Also "The Incredible Adventures of Wallace & Gromit" - another former resident of the Walmart dump bin which is now fetching big bucks.

Deleted the Karate Kid movies - a cheap 4-disc collection has just been released.

I'm pretty sure the original Die Hard Trilogy box set (the ones marked for THX) is OOP, they're not worth too much though, I remember getting mine on eBay for $11 and I don't think it's going for any more than $20 considering there's a better set already out there now. I'm not sure if it was mentioned but the 25th Anniversary Edition of Rocky Horror Picture Show is OOP and can fetch a fair amount (up to $50 on half.com, and $25-40 on ebay).

Well, uhhh - "constantly" might be a little too strong a term...

Well, as neccessary, at least, right?

I was gonna write "consistently", which is probably more accurate, but I liked the sound of "constantly" better.

Also, when did 'Bride of Re-Animator' hit $100? Jeez, I almost want to sell mine. There are a few titles that I just noticed were way more than I would've thought.

Oh, 'Mallrats' is OOP going for about $30 or so. There will be a new version this year.

You can also add Gleaming the Cube, with Christian Slater. It regularly fetches around 30 bucks on ebay.

Hmmm - I am really confused about this DVD now. I see that the 1999 release by Pioneer is worth a lot more than the 2002 release by Artisan (according to DVDs123) - but I see a lot of sellers saying "Authentic Pioneer / Artisan release" - so did Pioneer become Artisan between 1999 and 2002? Also, Amazon lists one of them as being a Lionsgate release.

Can anyone clarify?

I strongly suspect that most of those cheap sales are mis-listed. Look closely - many say 1-disc edition, or artwork is different. However, I did see two sales that seem to be of the legit 2 disc version which went cheap - and I don't know why, but it ticks me off because I own a copy

I wish I understood, but I can only add to your information; the old 'Trees Lounge' disc with extras was Pioneer, the new one without is Artisan. Same 1999/2002 thing, too. Don't know the years, but 'Bride of Re-Animator' is something like that too.

I feel like there are a few other examples, I'll rack my brain and see if I can remember.

UPDATE: Did a little Googling, Lion's Gate bought Artisan around October of 2003.

I'll add Red Desert, even though it is a little obscure (only one auction on eBay and none completed, though there are several for sale at Amazon marketplace).

I sold my 1939 Wuthering Heights (HBO) with Laurence Olivier on ebay for $102.00. I'm waiting for MGM to rerelease it, since they bought Samuel Goldwyn movies.
