They both went OOP on 11/11/2003. The FS version might be rarer (or more in demand) than the WS since DVDs123.com is paying more for it used - $14.10 vs $11.10.

Actually, all the Best Buys I've been to have plenty of the Anamorphic WS DVD -- at least twice as many as the Fullscreen version.

I just thought I'd mention that there was an oddball but very cool release of Steve Buscemi's pet project Tree's Lounge prior to the current, unremarkable one. The former one, long OOP and by Pioneer I think, has a commentary by Buscemi while the current one, which is put out by Artisan, doesn't include it. It's fairly rare and one of the problems is no one seems to realize there are two versions floating around so few people specify it in their auction descriptions. When they do though, I've seen the price bounce up above $20. I know because I've lost a couple of auctions from it going so high. Just a heads up and probably a good get for under $10 in a used bin somewhere. Just make sure the back lists the commentary track.

I never brought that one up because I never saw it get as high as $20, but it's a good one.

One easy difference is that the Pioneer one is letterboxed where the Artisan is fullscreen. I got mine cheap on E-bay because I knew it was the right one but it wasn't specified as OOP or rare or anything. (I will say, though, that I accidentally bought the wrong version from a Canadian guy ... he had listed it as fullscreen, but the "features" were the Pioneer version, so I took a chance and was wrong. Guy was nice enough to give a full refund for the mistake, though.)

Please add "The Car." Anchor Bay put out a very limited number of these (It has a holofoil cover) and they go for 40 and up on ebay, 60 and up on Amazon. I found one at Coconuts today for 10.99

I am adding those two with some reservations - both are pretty obscure, only one recent comleted auction on eBay, but the prices were pretty high, and dvds123 is paying decently for them.

In my support of this being a sticky, here are some DVDs I know of : Real Genius (19+ Amz), Mallrats (getting more and more scarce), Walking Across Egpyt (Jonathan Taylor Thomas, have seen it for 40+), Never Cry Wolf FS (25+), Condorman (40+, this is not a Disney film)...

I would love to see this blossom. It would be a help, especially to know DVDs I might be interested in, but had on the backburner, so I would have a fighting chance before they skyrocketed.

I would like to see you add some of the more obscure titles that are fetching big bucks. If someone comes across one of these, they can sell or trade them just as easily as one of the big name discs.

Liquid Sky is one that I mentioned earlier, which is something of a cult film. There is a poster by that name here, and when I mentioned I had a copy that I didn't want a couple of years ago, several people on the board showed interest.

Amazon Marketplace has 5 copies listed, from $149.99 to $299.95, Half.com has 4, from $79.95 to $249.95, and it looks like there were 4 completed items on Ebay, from $67.00 to $102.50.

I believe the stated intention, at the outset at least, was to list stuff which people were *likely* to find in used stores.

Although he has, since then, added 'Rabid Dogs', and I don't think anything you cited is less likely to turn up than that.

In which case, we oughta stick the special edition of 'Little Shop' up there too, right? And probably the original printing of 'Devil's Advocate'. [Both should have a note about the differences you can spot on the cases.]

Hey - it's MY list and I will decide what to include

Ok ok - I added Liquid Sky, are you happy now?

In reality, I still haven't gotten around to sorting through the titles suggested at the top of the last page - you guys threw a bunch of titles at me at once and I just haven't gotten back to it yet. I try to take time to research these before adding them, and it takes a little time.

As far as The Devil's Advocate - there just doesn't seem to be much interest in that version on eBay, there is currently one completed sale at $31, 2 at $10.49, and one unbid at $25.

In all sincerity, you do us all a great service with this list, thanks a lot.

That's surprising, I hadn't been looking at it, but I figured it'd continue to get more expensive, or at least plateau. I'm glad I decided not to buy it when it was expensive (I saw people bid it up to $90), I may take a crack at it now.

You're welcome - though there are a lot of peope on this forum who maintain much more involved lists than this one.

There is one copy up for sale now - no bid yet.

That's true but, with respect to those lists which are great and obviously take a lot of work, and which I do use occassionally, I like this one more precisely because it's less cluttered.

There is one copy up for sale now - no bid yet.
Again, thank you ... although that guy's feedback makes me wary. I'll keep an eye on it.

97% (though only 64 transactions) - and one negative is from a seller - looks pretty good to me, at least one other OOP and no problem.

Eh, I'm automatically wary of anybody who has under 100 transactions if they haven't all gone perfectly.

Especially when you read the negative feedback he *did* get as a seller.

But, on the other hand, I've also found that, due to people being cautious the way I am, a lot of times discs like this'll go cheaper than they ought to. So I still might do it.

Anyway, we're getting a bit side-tracked ... so I'd just like to chime in that I was at Kim's video last weekend, and the salesman there confirmed that the re-release of 'Clownhouse' technically did happen, but was quickly stopped. Apparently, the kid's parents found out and threatened lawsuits against the studio, and the studio didn't care enough about 'Clownhouse' to bother fighting it, so they pulled the release instead. This is the second time this release was ended.

Hey, I just found the first pressing of The Seven Samurai: Criterion Collection at a used store, so I have still hopes that I'll find Little Shop of Horrors SE, Swamp Thing, or the following Criterions: Salo, The Killer, Hardboiled, This is Spinal Tap...

BTW, what are the differences on Devil's Advocate?

The spine number is 15090, while the common version is 16172.

There is a "Living sculpture" scene near the end that was later deleted.

Added to what Yankee said, WB was sued by an artist whose sculptures were essentially the same as what was used in the movie, because they didn't pay him. They settled, and part of the settlement was that they could release the initial wave of DVDs and videos with the scenes, but they had to fix it. Their way of fixing it was mostly just cutting out the shots (it's, I believe, ten minutes shorter), or CGIing the sculpture so that it's indistinct. At a certain point, these indistinct sculptures morph back into the original version just in time to come to life.

Something to that effect, anyway. I've never seen the new version.

Zeram appears to be OOP, and there is only one seller at Amazon, wanting over a hundred.

Too obscure - no auctions at eBay, even the $5 knockoffs aren't selling.

Hey GuamGuy,

Found a mint condition copy of The Devil's Advocate 15090 at Blockbuster for $9.99. Now I have both versions and can compare them (got the current one for $4 at a pawn shop).

Does anyone know what the deal is with the old CE of Animal House? I plan to get the Double secret probation edition from CH, so I taded it to BBV. They gave me $10 credit for it (instead of the normal $8), and half.com lists it as moratorium - but DVDs123.com is only paying $4.70. There is, however, an older OOP version with high prices on Amazon and at DVDs123.com. No real action on eBay with either version.

The older one is much rarer, because it was released waaaaay back in the old days of DVD. The other out of print version was pretty much identical to the new one (I think), so that makes it seem even less rare.

I don't why anybody would want to buy the way-old version, but it is rarer.

Didn't know Bride of Reanimator was worth so much. I've seen about 3 of them in my used dvd travels (all sealed). I picked one up for myself but if I would have know about their worth I would've picked up all of them!
