I bought the Made in Mexico version and I did not have any issues with the film itself or documentary. I did have problems with disc two of Universal's Alfred Hitchcock Presents.

Grrr.. Mine's messed up too. Had a slight pause at the layer change, played fine, then around 82 minutes it skipped, the scenes right after placing him in the freezer. Made in Mexico says the sticker.

Damn, was hoping they came from the same lot! Just curious, has anyone else found 2 Kong tix in their copy? I thought one other person had reported this but can't find the post....

That's probably the 3rd layer kicking in.

I ordered one from Columbia House today for about 10.00, if there are any problems with it, I'll just trade it in and pick up the old version I used to have.

How did you get it for $10? Was that with 60% off after buying a regular priced title or did they have a stealth promotion?

I just paid $21.95 in Funcash for it. Since almost anything they charge about $20 for can typically be had for $10 during one of their sales, I consider Funcash to be worth at most half of its actual amount in the real world.

Don't see any sticker on mine. Watched movie side without any problems (knock on wood). Slight layer change during the injection scene. Have watched part of Side 2, up to and including casting the 3 ghosts, and no problems yet.

Really enjoyed seeing the movie again.

Bonus materials haven't been announced yet, but this has been announced as a single disc release - so there's probably little chance of including the full 4.5 hour documentary. But we'll wait and see.

Retail is $26.98
Just got the R4 3 disc version,
Details:
Disc 1
117 minute version (PAL)
2.35 anamorphic transfer
english 5.1 DTS audio
-introduction by Peter Jackson (2:42 minutes)
Feature commentary with Peter Jackson

Disc 2
1st part of documentary-171 minutes

Disc 3
2nd part of documentary-96 minutes

So it looks like it is the full 4.5 Hr documentary from the laserdisc

Yeah went ahead I pre-ordered Red Eye at regular price, and then got Cinderella Man and Frighteners at $10.xx each with the 60% off (w/free shipping). Not too shabby.

Is it me or was the theatrical cut just better?

The only other parts that were even really needed were the back story with Agent Dahmers in the cemetary.

All the other extras were awesome though and i did notice that P.Jackson said that the theatrical cut was the definative cut of his film, the extras that were added back in were something that would be cool for fans.

Also, I did notice the skips in my disc... the long pause and then the shorter one about 10 minutes later.

Not really a happy camper... it might just be that they were really cheap about putting all this information onto one disc. front and back as apposed to just adding another disc.

I'm sure they have alot of recalls on the disc for compression problems.

I recieved 2 tickets for Kong, i honestly thought that you were suppose to, My roommate also recieved two tickets!

Maybe "reference quality" for a movie that came out 10 years ago. I didn't think the video was that good of quality.

Take their video rating with a grain of salt-they have always been very easy on their video ratings. For example, Gangs of New York and Hero(Jet-Li) also received perfect 4 star ratings. I haven't seen the Frighteners for myself, but I wouldn't rely on that particular review to determine picture quality.

Gotcha. The R1 of "Gangs of N.Y." has some of the worst EE I have ever seen. The opening scene in the snow is atrocious looking. I bought the R2 PAL version which looks MUCH better IMHO.
Curious as to how the PAL version of the Frighteners compares? I know that the German version has the DTS track...

I didn't notice any skipping problems with mine, but the video quality is definitely not what i'd call 'reference'.

The extras are great, but I agree with a previous poster about the theatrical cut being better. This is definitely a case where the deleted/extended scenes were cut for good reason...they just didn't add a thing to the film.

I thought all the additional scenes with Dammers were well worth being in the film...LOVED those scenes. A few of the extra Ghost bits I could have lived without, but I did really like the DC...Glad I held onto the original release to have the theatrical cut though...

Same here. I only paid $5.99 for it on eBay anyhow. It's nice to have both versions as they are somewhat different obviously. When your in the mood you can pick between them, it's a nice luxury to have if you are not that sold on the Director's Cut being the definitive version of the film or you want all the extras.

Of course, you can always go with the German 4-disc and have both the theatrical and director's cut in one release.

Mine should be shipping from cd-wow any day now, as I believe the release date listed is today (12/8).

I keep checking too, but I am getting the feeling there is going to be another delay. Keeping fingers crossed.

Just picked up a copy from my local Best Buy. Popped it in to check if the layer change was ok, and it was. Plan on watching the rest of it tonight.

As i mentioned earlier in the thread, will be interesting to see how long it takes for CD-Wow to fulfill their orders for the German disc as in my experience i always seem to suffer some delay in them getting the title to me.
Mine's still listed as 'pre-release' on my account so i'm expecting the inevitable e-mail shortly informing me of a delay of some sort.
