We should keep track of where everyones' discs were manufactured. Mexico, Taiwan... Could be important. I also wanna see an A/V comparison between regions. Why no DTS here? Disc space?

Oh, the two copies at my Best Buy (Southern California) were both made in Mexico, and both had King Kong tickets.

I'll check out the transfer tonight (btw, my JVC dvd player never has problems with Universal's dvd-18s)

Local Circuit City got in only two. I was able to get the remaining one. King Kong ticket was inside.

Why is there such a shortage of these?

It's a cataloge release of a fairly obscure movie. Really, not too many people are aware of this film.

Still 2-10 copies per store, especially for a big store like Best Buy, seems really low - maybe thet just under-ordered - wouldn't be the first time.

Mine said made on mars, lol, just kidding. Actually it was made in mexico. I opened this up and watched it today, this dvd absolutely rocks. I haven't had any problems to speak of with the dvd, well worth the double-dip and the $28 I paid for it at Borders.

Well worth a purchase for any fan of the genre or Peter Jackson's directing. Or for anyone who wants a free King Kong ticket.

BB near me only got 2 copies in, picked em both up for me and a co-worker. Both from Mexico apparently. The docu had no problems playing today for me. Watching the film itself shortly.

There were plenty of copies at Wal*Mart ($19.44). It took alittle bit of looking but just as I was going to give up I spotted 'em in the display case with the boxsets for Jurassic Park, Tremors and The Mummy.

Oh, it was made in Mexico.

I ended having to go to Borders to find a copy after calling each and every other store in a 20 miles radius that I could think if. I was dreading Border's price tag but when I got there they had only 2 copies and they were marked at 22.99. Still kinda high but I got my copy.

You would think Universal would make this title readily available, consider they're pushing King Kong with it. "From the director of the upcoming King Kong, due in theaters Dec. 14!". That sounds like a great marketing tie-in.

The info may not be correct, but I checked Best Buy's stock on The Mummy Set, Jurassic Park Set, and The Frighteners and none near me have any in stock. The site didn't even show the Tremors Set when I searched for it. All of these must be hard to find. Even amazon.com has JP and Mummy sets shipping in 4-9 days.

That's very odd. W*M had 'em all in a display stand. If I didn't already have the JP set and both Mummy flicks, I'd be tempted to pick 'em up. Plus scoring a ticket in each.

Not sure if anyone has mentioned it but the King Kong ticket is for $10.50

Got one of two copies at my Best Buy. A boy in blue had to get it from "the back". He said the other one was for him.

I picked up this and Jurassic Park Pack. Scored two tickets to King Kong for me and my wife. Was hoping to get The Frighteners for 14.99 but paid 19.99 for it at K-Mart. I did buy the JP set for only 14.99 at Target.

Mine was a fuckin' floater...! It has hairline scratches all over, and since it's a 2-sided disc, it's scratched on both sides - so it's like having 2 floaters in the same package.
Universal! Stop it with the 2-sided shit already!

Anyways, I sampled it, and it seems to play okay - but who knows what will happen when I watch it all the way through.

Like stated earlier, the story-boarding feature is 45 minutes and is on the movie side, and the entire 3 hour 45 minute behind the scenes is on side two.
(skinny) Jackson has new intros to both the movie and the behind the scenes.

The video is greatly improved on from the last release - it's not "the greatest transfer ever" or anything, but it's well above average.

The 5.1 is pretty sweet - loud, punchy, and very good separation in the surrounds with a great directional field. The LFE isn't too hot, but what's there isn't bad.

Picked it up at MovieStop. $23.99 but had a $19.99 credit for trading in 3 DVD's. Can't wait to watch it this weekend.

WARNING to anyone renting this from Netflix... the old Universal DVD is being shipped, not the new one.

I put this movie in my queue a while back, then it dropped down to the 'Awaiting release' section, with the Nov. 29, 2005 release date of the new director's cut as the availability date. So I decided to move it up to the top of my queue, and Nov. 29 is finally here and the movie shipped and arrived today and... it's the old release. Kind of strange that they did this (and very unlike Netflix, who, although sometimes their receipt/shipping of movies is lackluster, they always sent the right title, it's always widescreen, unrated, etc. as promised... it's also obviously been viewed before, it's not even a new copy of the old DVD); I thought I'd let everyone know.

netflix doesnt list it as a new release.
they only list the old one.

from the listing...

"This not a Universal Collector's Edition, so the only extras are production notes and a trailer."

they do list the bonus features as a seperate dvd.

if this link works.

I had to hold myself back from buying this there because it's such a great deal. I already have the box set for JP. No need for it, though it's a very nice package.

As for how the image and sound are for The Frighteners: DC, everything is above average, very well done.
