If anything, it's just for the Final Cut. Big deal. The other versions aren't going anywhere.

"Later in 2007, to celebrate the film's 25th anniversary, the studio will unveil Blade Runner: The Final Cut, Scott's definitive new version of his science-fiction masterpiece. The film will be released theatrically in select major U.S. cities, followed by a multi-disc Special Edition DVD release which will also contain three alternate versions of Blade Runner: the Original U.S. Theatrical Cut, the Expanded International Theatrical Cut and the 1992 Director's Cut. "

Lucas tried to sweep the originals under the rug and offered them in crappy bootleg quality. Ridley is offering a buffet with all versions in high quality. Hardly "pulling a Lucas". Plus, the set is being produced by Charles de Lauzirika, who put together the Alien Quadrilogy, the Kingdom of Heaven 4-disc set, and the Black Hawk Dawn SE.

What is there to possibly get upset about? Seriously.

Ridley Scott finished the Final cut WAY back in 2001. I doubt he reshot anything.

My guess: When Deckert finally traces Zora (Joanna Cassidy) to The Snake Pit he watches her perform her act before going backstage and questioning her. Originally the filmmakers were going to show a caberat dance with a snake, but they cut it for budget reasons.

Perhaps they went back and filmed it. Is Joanna Cassidy still in good enough shape to do a scene like this? She would be performing in the nude.

Cassidy is in fine shape for a woman her age, but there's no way she can pull off a nude dance 25 years after the original film. Without some major CGI help, that just ain't happening. Here's a photo of her from 2003:


My guess is that this is simply a quick insert/replacement shot for the obvious stunt double when Zora crashes through the glass.

"The great film ick blog also adds that the reshoots will feature Zhora in new shots during her chase/retirement scene. "In the original film, the chase shows Zhora in flat boots but previously we saw her put on heels - the reshoots feature heels. The control wires for the squib that released Zhora's blood was previously visible - not any longer. A wound make-up that was missing in some angles is now in place, Zhora gets a second shot in the chest now, the lighting is much improved [and] several new angles have been taken. Depending on the edit, the sequence could end up looking rather different overall."

Very interesting, to say the least! It was already known that Scott was planning to fix some opticals and visuals with new CGI for the new "Final Director's Cut," but actual reshoots with actors was really out of left field."

Guess he's not done yet.

Yup, clear diagnosis of the early stages of Lucas-disease.

Totally unneeded changes. There's a reason why they're in every film. Because they're not worth fixing. Every film has small continuity errors etc. Almost no one notices. No one cares.

Except Ridley doesn't try and erase older versions from history.
If this was the case, the Directors Cut would have never been remastered and would have been presented as a 'curiosity' piece in this new set.

He's made it clear for many years the studio interfered a lot with this film and it's never been his definitive version. For a long time, the Director's Cut release was as close as he thought he'd get.

Look at Kingdom of Heaven; the studio butchered theatrical cut got a decent SE; then later on Ridley's DC gets a great release too.

He's no stranger to recuts of his films, in most cases the theatrical version is still his definitive edition anyhow.

I still don't understand the complaining. No earlier versions are being swept under the rug. Let him fiddle-fu** with his Final Cut. It might be great, it might be unwatchable--doesn't matter. All of the prior versions are being made available in a (sure to be) high-quality release. Hell, the DC just got a remastered disc last year. He's not trying to erase history here, folks.

This sounds like a serious contender for best DVD release of the year. Besides the four different versions of the film it looks like we will be getting stellar behind the scenes work, based on how Charles de Lauzirika handled those previous DVD releases.

In addition to all the other reasons people pointed out, I'd like to throw in there the fact that Lucas added new stuff, but did *not* go back and fix contiuity errors or bad special effects the way Scott is doing. In fact, he changed some perfectly good ones, but left the horrible matte lines in every version.

Not fixing various established problems, but instead randomly adding things which, in many cases, caused further problems ... that's what people hold against Lucas. I'll never understand why people paint it as people hating changes; it's not changes, it's illogical at-best-pointless changes people objected to with 'Star Wars'. (For instance, very very few people complain that the original cut of 'Star Trek II: The Wrath of Khan' is not available.)

I'm not a huge 'Blade Runner' fan, but this release makes me (a) wish I were and (b) suspect I might become more of one soon.

99% of the matte lines were cleaned up for the 2005 versions. There's a few that remain but most are long gone.
