Did you see that announced somewhere? I've seen speculation that it will be the same as R1, but no confirmation. I will believe it when I see it. It would be awesome if it was a common release.

So I have to pay $80 for a bunch of useless, crappy tchotckes and an oversized case that will be impossible to fit on my shelves if I want to watch the workprint and the BBC documentary?

That's fucking bullshit, and I expected better from Scott and de Lauzirika.

I wonder what the "Final Cut" is. Hopefully it at least has the extra violence.

Blame it on Warners, not Scott and de Lauzarika. If you read the article, it has Warner execs bragging all over the place about how great it is that they're charging an arm and a leg for these specialer editions.

I really hope the fourth disc listed is the one that's exclusive to the five disc set.

Some people are not happy are they!
BTW, it's a channel 4 programme.

I did read the article, and I imagine the majority of that $40 million will be coming from rabid Harry Potter fans picking up the gift sets, with Blade Runner maybe contributing a small profit. I'm sure it'll do solid numbers, but let's face it: BR is A) an old movie, and B) a cult item when you get down to it. Yes, it's considered a classic and a landmark, but it's still a cult film, and like most movies of that type, has a huge following on the Internet, but outside...I dunno.

And considering how good Scott has been in the past with not ripping off DVD buyers (ie, the Gladiator, Kingdom of Heaven and Alien reissues having little to no overlap with their previous SE's), I don't see him as the type of person would allow Warners to do something like this.

My apologies. Not familiar with the TV setup in the UK, so I just assumed most everything over there was broadcast by one of the BBC channels.

You want to know the funny part about this? I'm not even a huge fan of BR; it's something I find more intriguing than entertaining. But still, I find the behind-the-scenes story and all the various cuts of it endlessly fascinating, so I would happily pony up for a 5-disc set that cut out all those silly collectibles. This is not a new thing with me: Scott and de Lauzarika always put out fantastic SE's, even with movies I'm not exactly enamored with (Black Rain, Legend, A Good Year, theatrical cut of KOH), so I always try them out...even if I do eventually wind up selling them off.

Oh well, if worse comes to worse, I can always Netflix the fifth disc.

If you knew anything about Blade Runner's troubled history, including the last five-plus years it spent rotting in DVD Hell, then you'd know that Scott has no control over what happens with the film and that we're lucky the damn thing is even coming out at all. I'm not even sure Warners has final say over this release. Talk to Perenchio and Yorkin.

Count me in for the 5-disc set. I'm all about fancy-ass packaging and that case looks sweet. Hopefully it includes a keepcase-sized package inside I can display on my shelf.

Aw man, I reckon I'll have to decide which standard I'm going to start migrating to.

Ok this may be a weird question but I have never seen Blade Runner, I once rented it a while ago but fell asleep after 10 minutes and never finished it. Which version should I watch first?

Both versions will put you to sleep during the first few minutes if you're not a coffee drinker and especially the director's cut without the voice-over commentary to sustain you. But both versions are worth exploring and seeing through the end.

It's funny how true this actually is. I fell asleep on my first THREE attempts at watching it. I finally broke through the barrier and made it all the way through, and was happy I did.

It's funny you should say that, 2 nights ago I tried to watch Blade Runner for the first time in quite a few years, as soon as Decker starts interviewing Sean Young it was lights out for me! For some reason this is a very dull movie at times...

Will there be a one or two disc release eventually? The truth is I'll never watch the other versions. I have the director's cut and just want to see the "Final Cut."

Nobody knows. However, based on the fact that the remastered original Matrix never got released separately after all this time bodes ill.

I wonder if Warner will wait until 2019 to release the definitive set. But count me in for the 5-discer. It's one of those few movies (which I can count on only one hand) where I would pay more than usual.

The art for the two-disc final cut is kinda lame, the four discer looks great...but i hope its not too pricey

five disc set seems pointless in that bulky briefcase

I'll wait for the first reviews of the Final Cut - if none of the narration has been added back into the movie, I'll take the two-disc version.

If the narration (or parts of it) returns, I'll have to buy the four-disc version to get the DC.

I'm interested in seeing the Workprint edition, is this version only going to be release in the 5-disc edition? I really don't need a briefcase. If it is only in the 5-disc edition hopefully it will not cost an arm and a leg.

It looks like I will be buying the 4-disc release.
