I was only helping with the English. Nothing can help the rest.

The theatrical cut is the only one that should be released. DVDs should replicate what was shown in theaters.

which theatre - cause there were two if you want to be technical: the US version and the Euro cut... and what's up with the Times New Roman lettering??

I picked this up today and am kind of nervous about it.
The cover looks like the old one (not cardboard, but same artwork).

The only apparent difference is a lame sticker that says "Newly Remastered for stunning image quality".

Although in the trademark ramblings it *does* say "© 2006 Warner Bros Entertainment Inc".
Anyone else watch the movie and can you tell the differenece?

Edit: I'm watching it now. But I have no basis to determine if it is 'remastered' since I don't own the original 1997 DVD.
More deets/details from the box: the ISBN# is 1-4198-4105-x w/ the proof of purchases being 83779A/B.

I had to do a double-take when I spotted it. Like you mentioned, it looks like the old one except for the sticker on the front and the trademark on the back.... plus it's in a keepcase.

If you've been reading this thread, you'd at least know that unlike the old dvd, it's anamorphic, and therefore a new, remastered transfer.

Anyways, I just skipped through it, and it looks good - really good - it's not just the old transfer done anamorphic, it's cleaned up and looks spotless. It's got some haze, but I think that's intentional. It's not the best looking dvd for this day and age, but for a 25 year old movie, it looks fantastic, and light years better than the old dvd.

I'm pretty sure the old transfer was also anamorphic, but I also belive it was a recombobulated 4x3 LD transfer, which may have caused some of the image quality problems.

And all this talk is making it hard for me to wait for the big boxset next year

I read the thread and understand the difference between Anamorphic and non. I was attempting to get clarification on whether this was in fact the actual remastered version, since I hadn't seen the other DVD.

I agree w/ the haze - I guess Ridley is known for the 'atmospheric' view in his movies. I loved the look he gave Black Hawk Down for instance - just like it would be if you were there.

If you say it looks light yrs better than the old one, I'll take your word for it.

Cheers!

Oh man, you're an enabler! I was going to try and hold off for the big set, but I'm starting to weaken.

So since the old transfer is not anamorphic I guess I'll pick up the new one.

Just kidding.

Don't pass up on this new DVD. If it's only selling for 17 bucks, that's going to be like spending $1.50 a month till the big 4-disc DVD comes out (within 12 months), which may not even come out - knowing the history of Ridley Scott films on DVD. Better to take the chance and buy it!
