Oh, I see, the Ultimate doesn't actually say briefcase, so that's the confusion.

yes that's the confusion... it took me awhile to post the appropriate links but there they are (phew)

Could happen..
they must know they could charge alot more than this for 5 HD discs!
The WB title "The Departed" lists for $34.95, the HDdvd combo for $39.95 and that's for ONE disc...!

Something is awry. Either the price IS totally wrong and will be more like $59.99 list or I'll bet that most of these discs will be SD, like in The Matrix ultimate collection where all the extras were SD.

and there is no single disc BD or HDdvd version All the specs and different versions are up. BD and HDdvd either get a 5 disc set or 5 disc plus briefcase.

I wondering how Limited this briefcase will be. Will Amazon get so many preorders that they won't be able to fill them all due to the limited nature? Wonder how hard it will be to find in stores(especially the two stores in my rural Tennessee town.

Giles - Thanks for doing that.

So as of today, one can preorder the SD 4 disc Collector's Edition for $24.99.

For just $27.95, one can preorder either the HD or BR 5 Disc Collector's Edition (digipack).

That you can get the set in hi-def PLUS the additional disc (workprint) for just $2.96 more is absolutely amazing to me.....

your welcome...

these prices seem awfully low if you ask me, I'm beginning to wonder if Amazon might have incorrectly priced them.

As has been said before, WHV also lists it at that, so it's unlikely.

I do like the 1 HD/BR disc + 4 SD theory, makes a whole lot more sense for that price.

When are we going to find out about all this for sure though?

Greetings fellow Replicants!

Yep, just go to amazon and/or WB.com and do a search for Blade Runner Blu Ray (or HDdvd) and 2 sets will pop up.

The "Ultimate set" is with the briefcase and all the goodies and does list for $99.99. The regular BD or HDdvd set without only has a $39.99 list price currently which is only $5.00 more than the 4 disc SDdvd set which makes me worry.

Blade Runner (Five-Disc Complete Collector's Edition) [Blu-ray] (2007)
Starring: Harrison Ford, Sean Young Director: Ridley Scott

List Price: $39.99
Price: $27.95 & this item ships for FREE with Super Saver Shipping. Details
You Save: $12.04 (30%)

I haven't seen ANYTHING that says all the versions will be in HD.
Honestly, how can they charge so little...? Shoot, how much was "The Matrix" set again...?

List was $99.99 for only 3 HDdvd discs and that's also WB.

The Complete Matrix Trilogy [HD DVD]
Starring: Keanu Reeves, Carrie-Anne Moss Director: Andy Wachowski Rating R

List Price: $99.99
Price: $63.95 & this item ships for FREE with Super Saver Shipping. Details
You Save: $36.04 (36%)

Availability: In Stock. Ships from and sold by Amazon.com. Gift-wrap available.

That's why I think it's either a pricing mistake or only one, maybe 2 discs will be HD. A $39.99 list price for 5 BD or HDdvd discs sounds just off.

If it were just amazon, I'd guess it's an error but WB's own site is selling the HD 5 disc sets for $29.99 too!

I'm not trying to be "Bummer Davy" but it's just odd, is all! Hell, WB sells a ONE disc version of "The Departed" for $39.99 for the HDdvd combo and $34.99 for the BD! And that's just ONE disc!!!!

I wouldn't mind if it was a mix of HD and SD, as long as the HDs are combos, I'm all over that 5 disc digipack!

I fully intend on getting the 5 disc briefcase. Would any of you recommend pre-ordering it off Amazon.com? I assume since this is coming out so close to X-Mas, that it will be difficult to find in the B&M's.

I was thinking that if the Definitive Cut on the HD set was not combo but everything else was SD, we could get both, but that'd be 15+28, and 43 isn't that much better than 55 with lots of exclusives.

well since I get Amazon Prime (free two day shipping) with UPS delivery new discs on the Tuesday day of release, and have an Amazon credit card - I recommend Amazon.

Davy, the reason I think we're getting other stuff (at least the other cuts) in HD is because if it was SD, I believe they would consolidate the extras into fewer discs rather than package the same DVDs with it. Note that many Warner titles have included extras from 2-disc DVD sets without the price being any higher than their other catalog titles with no extras. The Departed is a new release, so that's different.

The price for The Matrix Collection really isn't a fair comparison because it contains 3 movies, not one. While BR has the different cuts, perhaps they're still pricing it as one movie, plus an extra $10 (in the MSRP) for the more extensive extras.

I'm not sure if this has been posted or not but this is from Digital Bits in regards to whether or not the extras will be in HD:
Okay... we've got a little bit more news for you, starting with some follow-up on the high-def versions of Blade Runner. We've confirmed with Warner that both the Blu-ray Disc and HD-DVD editions will feature ALL FIVE VERSIONS of the film in actual 1080p video, but the extras (the documentary, deleted scenes, etc) will all be in standard definition. The reason for this has nothing to do with disc space on either format, but rather timing. Work is still ongoing on some of the extras (it's a big job as you can imagine from the list of specs). Given that, I'm told that even if high-def compression were to start today on the all the extras, there'd be no way to get the high-def versions of the set completed in time to street this year, which is the film's anniversary. That said, even though the extras will be standard def, they're going to be compressed at a very high bitrate and, with upscaling, they should look plenty good. So that's that.

This announcement doesn't rule out the possibility that the HD-DVDs will be combo discs, allowing you to purchase the 5 disc HD digipack for $28 with both SD and HD versions of all 5 cuts.

It sounds like they're saying that they're not consolidating the extras into fewer discs but rather using the same DVDs for discs 3, 4, and 5 in the HD sets. By "high def compression" they mean they don't have time to reconfigure the extras onto HD discs.

Anyway, the lack of HD extras doesn't really bother me. Having the different cuts in HD is what's important.

Disc 5 in the HD sets isn't going to be a DVD, it contains the Workprint, which will be in HD.

By "high def compression" they mean they don't have time to reconfigure the extras onto HD discs.
No, by "high def compression" they mean that they don't have time to compress an HD master of the extras into whatever video codec they'd use for an HD disc.

Don't know if this has been mentioned (I'm sure it has) but there is a pretty good half hour panel discussion from comic con on the final cut and the new set available on xbox live marketplace as a free download.

Speaking of Comic-Con, here are some pics I took at the panel. Bottom pic is Syd Mead:
