From the digitalbits:
I've just gotten the chance to see Warner's newly remastered Blade Runner DVD... and let me tell you, if you love this film even half as much as we do, the new disc is an absolute MUST have. The new transfer makes the original DVD - which was one of the very first discs Warner ever released back in March of 1997 - look like dog chow by comparison. Contrast, color, detail... all are dramatically improved with the new anamorphic transfer.

Damn it! Must not double-dip yet! Must wait for HD-DVD release!

I love this movie enough to dip on every single new release this movie gets.

12.99 at CC is a no brainer for me anyways.

You bitch when the video quality isn't up to snuff. To me, not remastering a 2.0 soundtrack (for a movie like BR - old B&W movies wouldn't matter) into 5.1 isn't too different than a dvd that's not anamorphic.

I sure hope you are wrong about the delay, a lot of people would be very upset, to say the least.

I'm getting the 1 disc regardless.

I'm not going to panic about the boxset until I hear it from a reliable source.

Uhh...yes it is different. In BR's case, I believe it was projected in 70mm which means they would be able to create a 5.1 track. However, a majority of the prints would have had a mono surround (just like Star wars) and there's no reason to "remix" a track when that's not how it was originally shown.

The 2.0 mix is accurate.

I bitch when sound AND video aren't up to snuff. In fact, i'm MORE into sound than video so I don't know where you're getting that from.

DVDMANUK,
So how does the DVD look and sound? The previous release had poor video quality, but I remember that the 2.0 audio was not bad, even sounding like a tame DD 5.1. What do you think?

What dvd company does your friend work for? Could you provide a little more information as to why "balde runner" will be delayed?

no5.1 on disc

WHY o why did they not make this dvd 5.1 im a bit pissed of with this as i noticed in small print the dvd is only 2.0 stero why why why ??? i think that dvd should be 5.1 or at leat DTS AS it a great film.why is it that with some old movies they can make it 5.1 and with some they wont this film is not that old as it came out 1991 i think it was.so why cant warner bothers make the efford and give the paying customer what we want also as noramall no index card as long as these money grabbing ****s make there cash they are happy.

ps my view is this dvd should of gone to high d or bluy ray with 5.1 or DTS. WHAT DO YOU THINK ?

DTS also can be 5.1 or even 6.1, and most people consider it to be superior to Dolby Digital.

why is it that with some old movies they can make it 5.1 and with some they wont this film is not that old as it came out 1991 i think it was.
"Blade Runner" was released in 1982, not 1991.

You, as a paying customer, were aware that a multidisc set of "Blade Runner" is coming out next year that likely will have all the bells and whistles, including remixed sound. You chose to buy this (low-priced) disc anyway. You have no one to blame but yourself.

WHAT DO YOU THINK ?
I think your posts border on being unreadable because you make no effort to use punctuation or correct spelling. DVD Talk isn't an English class, but it would be respectful of you to make at least a little effort to be coherrent.

As long as these money grubbing ****s make their cash they are happy.

p.s. My view is this dvd should've gone to HDDVD or Blu-ray with 5.1 or DTS. WHAT DO YOU THINK ?

Hope this makes better sense.

But, to be fair, BLADE RUNNER: The Director's Cut was released in 1991.

Not really.

Still doesn't explain why this should, without a doubt, have a 5.1 track.

IMHO, it shouldn't. Most remixed tracks suck.

Or 1992, which was the 10th anniversary.
