I'm so up for this again this year. I have a question though. I don't really consider it a horror movie but does Donnie Darko count? It takes place during October and there's a lot of Halloween stuff in it.

I definitely wouldn't count that as a horror movie. When I think horror, I think of The Excorist, TCM, Halloween, The Haunting, Night of the Living Dead. Donnie Darko just doesn't quite fit with that group.

Yeah, good point. We're at 10 pages as of my post and October hasn't even started yet.

I'll give this a shot - it takes something like this to motivate me to really dig into my backlog of horror films. I'll aim for 40.

The events start at 12 midnight Sunday morning, or for people like me Saturday night / Sunday morning, I will hopefully start at 1AM when I get home from work!

Yeah, since this thread was started much earlier than last year it's getting a little cluttered so:

http://forum.dvdtalk.com/showthread.php?t=479182

Keeping this a "Discussion Only" thread should simplify things quite a bit.

I have a idea, would a ENTIRE DISC of a horror tv show count in the challenge? I'm asking as I just got Buffy The Vampire Slayer:Chosen Collection and wondered if you could make it to where a whole disc of a horror show would count. Like 39 discs of Buffy The Vampire Slayer(144 episodes) would count as 39 Movie slots? Please

I've got a question as well, I just recently got the Species box set, and was wondering if those would count as horror, since it is technically about aliens.

I vote yes. Actually, each disc could count as two films based on the run time. The only negative to this, is it will not allow for much variety.

It's called Horror Movie Challange, so I'm going to watch movies. TV shows should not count at all.

I agree. Why is this called the "Horror Movie Challenge" if we can include things that aren't horror and/or aren't even movies?

Of course those could count. Monster films are allowed, and that includes alien flicks. Species is definitely a monster flick.

The Alien and Predator series, along with Godzilla and King Kong would also count.

And since everyone can make their own rules. If someone wants to include some tv series episodes, they can. Since it's all about fun afterall and there is no reason to be uptight.

Does Halloween: 25 Years of Terror count since it's actually more documentary-like?

And the survey says...

Use your own discretion as to what you consider to be in the horror genre. If you consider "Jaws", "Se7en" "Godzilla", etc. horror then count them. If you don't...don't. Horror documentaries also count.

Since we have 2 threads, one for lists and one for discussion, I recommend when you want to let people know you have updated your list, to post it in this thread. Last year's list thread got really long because we had tons of posts saying "list updated" or something along those lines. Keeps the clutter down in the listing thread.

Very much agreed.

Also, I was planning on including Predator, Jurassic Park, and Ravenous on my list. Are those agreed to be horror, I figured they were. Jurassic park 2 & 3 seem more just action sci-fi.

Could we count The Machinist in the challenge?
