That's ok Trevor, we'll start our own Extension Thread for New Years Day. I don't really watch any Christmas stuff after 12/25 anyway and don't usually start watching anything New Years related until 12/31 so the current extension doesn't do a whole lot for me.

I'm not quite sure why The Monkees doesn't want to include NY Day (when Halloween includes Halloween day), but it's his playground and I'll play by his rules.

Thanks for the lists Trevor and The Monkees. I'm still trying to decide what to start with tomorrow, but your lists will help me pick something out.

I was thinking the other day that the Horror Movie Challenge is only one month, but in reality this one is now a month and a half, so that should be ample time to watch 65 movies or TV shows or shorts or whatever.

One Thanksgiving Day movie that I don't see on the list is BROADWAY DANNY ROSE.

I would also consider THE APARTMENT a New Years Day movie even though only the final portion of the film takes place during the holiday season as it does play into the spirit of the holiday which is starting over with a new beginning.

a few questions

Looking at my list, the only Thanksgiving movie I own is Mighty Joe Young (both versions).

Why are those Thanksgiving movies again? I know it's a TV tradition to show Kong-type movies on that day, but I don't remember the holiday being in the movie at all. I plan to watch them at midnight, after Charlie Brown maybe.

The various parades will count, right? Do you have to watch all 4-5 hours to count it, or would two hours be enough?

What about the two football games that day? They are a Thanksgiving tradition, and will talk about the holiday all day long with various family clips and such.

I borrowed my ex's Friends sets to watch all the Thanksgiving and Christmas episodes of those 10 seasons. My OCD "everything-in-order" rule is confusing me. Do I watch the 20 episodes in chronological order, thereby alternating Thanksgiving and Christmas episodes? Or do I watch all Thanksgiving first and then all Christmas, thereby seeing things out of order and creating huge continuity flaws in my fragile little mind. Either way makes logical sense depending on what argument I make, but both also cause my brain to hurt.

Also, has anyone seen a list of things appearing on broadcast TV close to Thanksgiving? I imagine there will be many hundreds of Thanksgiving episodes airing this week.

I watch the Thanksgiving episodes the week of Thanksgiving (I'll be watching them all tomorrow, to kick off the challenge), then I watch all the Christmas episodes after Thanksgiving, probably some time the week after.

Two thanks here Rob.

One for your opinion, it's the way I'm leaning. It just bothers me to watch anything "out of order", especially since most of these will be new to me, as I stopped watching Friends after the fourth or so season.

And two for confirming how the email notifications and post edits work. You can edit your post multiple times and not get the "post edited" notam at the bottom of the post until about the 1 or 2 minute mark. I was never sure when the email notifications were sent out. Well, they appear to be sent out almost immediately. I got your original post, not the slightly edited one, and you must have edited it in that first minute. So while a stupid detail for 99.999% of the world, it is a personal mystery solved for me, thanks again!

If anyone is looking for Thanksgiving cartoons and TV episodes, check out video.aol.com. The Hanna-Barbera special, The Thanksgiving That Almost Wasn't, can be found there at http://video.aol.com/video/tv-the-th...-wasnt/1763440.

In order to count the parades you would have to watch all of it. The football games are not going to count simply because it's technically not holiday oriented, this is more of a movie / TV show challenge, even including talk shows and stuff is stretching it, but the football games is too far.

Football just happens to coincide with the holiday, but there is nothing inherently Thanksgiving-oriented about it, unless maybe you have two teams dressed up as Pilgrims and Indians, and the ball is a roasted turkey.

While I agree that watching the football games shouldn't count, the games don't just happen to coincide with the holiday. The Lions and Cowboys host the games every year (with a 3rd one now that the NFL Network carries games) and those two teams and games are very much associated with the holiday.

I watch a lot of the Food TV shows that are for Thanksgiving/ Christmas... We counting these? Doesn't matter to me if we do or not, I watch them regardless, and if we count 'em I will throw them up on my list, if not then no biggie.

And it really sucks because I had all the ER Xmas specials saved on my DVR for last year, and this year no

I might watch a couple of Thanksgiving episodes of Friends at midnight, or I might just wait, and start fresh tomorrow morning. Haven't decided yet.

Ok, so my research appears to show that Mighty Joe Young counts only because Kong movies became a Thanksgiving staple since back in the 60s or so.

Using that argument, all Kong movies should count. I am in no way advocating that, but I just want to understand why MJY always shows up on these lists.

I am watching it at midnight, so any chance of it being stricken from the list it better be decided in the next few hours.

I haven't seen this movie, but if it doesn't fall into the rules then it doesn't count, it has to have a majority of the movie taking place during the holidays. Sorry I wasn't able to get to you sooner but I was working all night and just got a chance to sit down and read the thread.

I saw someone added "Watch an Oscar Winner" to their Bingo card, I did the same and I added 3 more too:

Watch "It's a Wonderful Life"
Watch some version of "Miracle on 34th Street"
Watch something Garfield

You can add these if you wish or not, just a little bit more fun

I was going to try to watch them in order. Thanksgiving first, then Christmas and then followed by New Years. But most of my TV on DVD, the Thanksgiving and Christmas Episodes are on the same disc.

It's a conundrum.

I've decided to go all Thanksgiving first, then switch into Christmas on Friday.

I like the Miracle on 34th Street and It's a Wonderful Life checklist inclusions TM, but Garfield isn't quite in the same league as those two movies or Charlie Brown, don't you think?

I know that some one of you doesn't like Charlie Brown, but you have to admit that Charlie Brown and the holidays go together like bees and honey.

Same here. I only have a couple of New Year's episodes, so I don't bother keeping them separate; I lump them in with the Christmas episodes. I should be able to finish off my Thanksgiving TV shows by tomorrow, watch the four Thanksgiving movies I own on Wednesday, then take Thursday off from the challenge, and have a marathon of Christmas episodes all day Friday.

I only added Garfield because it's a tradition on my end to watch the Christmas special every year. Plus there is a Thanksgiving special too. I guess CB has a Thanksgiving special and 2 or 3 Christmas specials.
