The current one is limited to only the newest releases, which will likely expire once the new titles are released in a couple weeks.
When they had the 10 for $100 deal, I was absolutely delighted to be able to purchase several great titles at that price from a large (but not complete) list of archive films. Almost immediately after that sale, they put on the current 5 for $50 sale with a very small selection of then new releases. The trouble is that they haven't changed that selection for a long while now...

Rotating the sales through limited selections of the catalogue is brilliant because it can encourage people to consider titles they might not have looked at otherwise to get in on the deal. However, it only works if you provide a reasonably large enough list to chose from and change it out every now and then...

Right. Thanks for the information.

Re: WBshop offering rare films on DVD

Many of the Warner Archive titles are now available at Amazon. Prices range from $25.99 to a whopping $28.98! Nearly $9.00 over the already exorbitant MSRP!

Re: WBshop offering rare films on DVD

Is there a plain text list available of the titles (possibly with years) that they are selling?

Their website is so unwieldly and time-consuming on any computer I try it on and it's too many pages to go through just to get a quick glance at what they're selling.

Classic Flix has them, and their list is much easier to navigate...

Re: WBshop offering rare films on DVD

So far, I've got around 50 Archive releases. I only buy when they are on sale, most I got for under $10. However, the defective rate is rather high.

returned 2 discs that would not play AT ALL--
Under the Rainbow
Men Don't Leave

returned 3 discs that skip and pixelate--
Just the Way You Are
Penn & Teller Get Killed
Tarzan the Magnificent

I haven't watched even 20 of the titles yet, so I am worried that I may run into more pixelated copies. However, I checked all of the discs to make sure they are at least recognized by my player and the menu loads. To their credit, WB has sent fast replacements with no hassles (other than a phone call), and all replacements have worked perfectly. Still, seems like a high rate of failure compared to pressed discs (1/10 so far).

At that rate you gotta wonder how long they stick with this concept?

Jerry:

Sorry to hear that!

I'm a steady customer with WB Archives, have ordered many dozens of times, and have never had a problem with any disc.

(RevKarl: Thanks for taking time to post that list. )

Re: WBshop offering rare films on DVD

Is there any way to request titles yet? Have they done any New Line movies? Last I heard, Warner bought New Line or something, right? There's at least 1 New Line title I'd pay dearly for on DVD: No Holds Barred. It pisses me off it's the only Hulk Hogan movie that hasn't gotten a DVD release. I have a whole list of other titles I'd pay large sums for on DVD if made available, but I've no idea which studios own the rights. The only thing Warner Archive has provided me with so far is Captain Sindbad. I wonder if I'll ever see an end to my VHS collection.

p.s. does anyone know what PC DVD-ROM drives can actually read these discs? I know my Samsung can't. It played in my PS3 though.

A request address/page (or hell, even a poll) would be nice, but I get the feeling they just put out whatever of which they have a halfway decent transfer. If they had their way, given the low cost of the system, they'd be unloading everything possible in the vaults long after optical media is a viable format.

I only have a handful of discs, but they play fine in all 3 of my drives: Sony DRU-810 flashed to a BenQ 1650, a Sony DRU-820 & some generic 16X drive of unknown manufacture.

Pathetic that WB won't sell these archive DVDs outside the U.S. I can get a couple of the titles I want on ebay for $40, but that ain't happenin'. The WB prices are already stretching it.

Re: WBshop offering rare films on DVD

I have 14 Archive titles. The only one I had a problem with was "Tarzan's Peril". When I played the disc it was "The George Raft Story". I called Warner and they sent a replacement.

Re: WBshop offering rare films on DVD

Some new titles up today including a Joan Crawford Value-Pack and an Irwin Allen tv-movie disaster pack (titles included are available separately as well).

I'm interested in the Irwin Allen set:

FLOOD
FIRE
CAVE-IN!
THE NIGHT THE BRIDGE FELL DOWN
HANGING ON A THREAD

I finally caved - the Crawford set did it. I ordered Tall Target as well, for a grand total of $57.15, plus 5% cashbaq.
