The disc is indeed region-free but there are no subs on it. Not even French.

Just found out that the Optimum release of Diary of the Dead is region locked also in case anybody had thoughts of importing it.

That does not bode well for the Optimum T2 release next month...

Studio Canal are set to bring approx. 30 titles this Fall/Winter with a new price tag of 19.99 Euro. Awhile ago I posted a partial list elsewhere with what is in the making and covers and specs have begun to slowly come up.

Since these are French releases, would I be correct in assuming there will be forced subs on the English language films? Really too bad if that's the case.

Also, do you have a larger version of that Mother of Tears cover?

Studio Canal did not add imposed subs on the English-language HDDVDs they released awhile ago. Why would they do it now with BR?

This is how it was uploaded , did not have time to play with it and resize.

I assume most of those SC titles that were on HD DVD will be direct ports.

I'll still get Le Pacte De Loups for sure, and probably La Haine. Highlander will be great to have as long as it's confirmed to not haver any pitch issues. I'd be tempted to replace my Hot Fuzz combo but I have a feeling Uni will do that one domestically sooner than later.

Have SC given any indication of region codes for these?

The Canal release for My Blueberry Nights is B-only. I assume however this has to do with the fact that Optimum released it in the UK almost simultaneously. For what is worth the preliminary info on Paris is: English-subs and ABC. I suppose the closer we get to release dates the easier would be to tell because right now there is very little and mostly conflicting info.

My opinion is that many of these discs will be region-coded as Canal has plenty of overlappings in Spain, Germany, the UK, etc with other smaller distribs (though they all share the same region). French releases of French films will likely have better chances for ABC.

Grrr... seems like all of My Blueberry Nights releases will be Region A. My last hope: Japan.

I've never seen Boys from Brazil or Black Narcissus for that matter are they good blind buys?

Boys from Brazil, in my opinion, is a very dated film. I would recommend that you rent it first before committing to a purchase. As far as Black Narcissus goes, yes, I don't believe you would be disappointed if you added it up to your collection.

Note that DVDBeaver is now including full-sized 1920x1080 screencaps.

Just click on the comparison shots to see them.

But France and the UK are both region B countries....

As I said before, it is now Optimum's policy to region code all Blu Rays.

I have Black Narcissus on BD in hand. Can't wait to see it. The screen caps on beaver looks amazing. I have Great Expectations on the way as well. It is just awsome that they are region free.
