On a lighter note, The Simpsons Movie looks absolutely gorgeous on Blu-ray, thanks Fox!

Happens on SD all the time.

A bare bones 1 disc, and then a 2 disc later when the 1st disc is essentially identical to the original release - if not the entire disc, then at least the video transfer.

It's logical to think the studio would plan the same thing in high def.

I would almost go as far as saying its the best looking Blu-ray I own. A bit unfair as animation is easier, but damn the movie is gorgeous.

I will only say this about Fox. I personally can live with the fact some of their catalog releases are bare bones if they priced them accordingly. However, you slap a $39.95 MSRP on the disc you have to give me a little more than just the movie. I own very few Fox BD discs for this reason and the few I have I picked up used during a B2G1 at EB and paid well under the MSRP.

If they priced their catalog titles like Sony I could live with missing extras a bit more.

Very much agreed on Fox catalog pricing. If these were on par with Universal/Sony/WB, I'd be buying a few extra Fox titles.

At this point these should be focusing on selling as many copies of each movie as possible, but if they continue with these release, it just means more and more people will skip. Ive passed on several Fox releases and simply won't purchase them until they are under $20 (or BOGO).

Its funny how they release a movie like "The Fly" which is 20 years old and is packed with tons of features, yet for a high profile release like ID4 or Castaway, they choose to include only a few extras. Baffles me.

I just hope they don't pull this with X-Men I and II, which are very high on my want list for 2008.

They pulled this same shit with Day After Tomorrow and I, Robot on DVD.

Like before they are probably setting the stage for future editions of these films.

At the very fucking minimum, FOX could at least reduce the MSRP and provide us with a multi-disc case for these releases so we could have room to store our original SD media w/extras.

Damn, I like this idea. Fox would never do it, but if I could find a cheap source of the 2 disc HD cases it would save shelf space to just pop the extras disc in with the HD disc and give away the standard DVD to a friend.

I really want to cut down my shelf space and this would help.

So far, I've come up with zero suppliers of multi-disc BD/HD cases.

I started to look at "short spine" multi-dvd cases, but the specs don't seem to be ideal for the BD/HD sleeves.

Crap! I stuck The Prestige into my PS3 last night and it wouldn't play. Took it out and I have the dreaded "rust spots" all over it. I have played the disc once before and they were not there at that time.

What are these "rust spots" you speak of? Is this another situation akin to "disc/laser rot"?

The problem was reported to be showing up on copies of "The Prestige", "Stranger than Fiction", and "The Departed". I'm not quite sure what is actually wrong with the disc but it is under the cover layer. Hard to photograph but it looks like hundreds of little brown dots.

Here is the best I could do.

Damn, that sucks. Thanks for the pic. This is the first I've heard about it. The Prestige was one of my freebies from the rebate.

I think we need to see some links to actual confirmed reports (via pics) of this happening to The Departed and Strange Than Fiction, because that is the first I've heard of it, and I read here and AVS daily.

The issue with Prestige was a contamination issue limited to a small % of the run. I've been checking mine monthly and thankfully the problem has not shown itself yet.

Seeing how good Disney's support has been with replacing the misframed POTC disc, people should have no problem getting a new disc from them.

I'm sure all the AVS threads are deleted now.
My Prestige rotted on me, but my Stranger then Fiction was fine...at the time. I need to go check again.

I had a rental with the splotching inside the disc, I'm pretty sure the movie was Pathfinder. It would not load at all.

Why would they have been deleted?

Yikes

I'll have to check my copy of The Prestige. I've only played it once since I bought it and haven't checked for any problems.

You can still find the AVS threads via Google and probably searching the board. I contacted Disney to see if they can help me out. Let's hope it was just a production problem that we don't see again.

I just joined the Blu-Ray club, got a PS3 today. Was looking for Ratatouille, wasn't there, so my Dad picked up Cars. Looks amazing.

Now to choose my five free ones...

Congrats on your purchase man. Don't forget the Pirates trilogy since that is reference material. Also stock up on the BD BOGO going on at Amazon right now.

They wouldn't do it, because they'd probably get complaints about the disc missing from people who don't realize it's a placeholder. Then again, I suppose they could put a label indicating it to be that, like on a U2 DVD I have.
