I'm sure the news would get worse when you say not only can you not buy the $15 dvd version you are accustomed to doing, but we want you to buy a $400 high-def player to watch the movie, which now costs $30.

this format war simply has no precedent in the relatively young home video market. not even VHS vs. BETA is all that comparable. we all want to be armchair market analysts, but none of us really know what is feasible and what isn't.

Actually that was kind of my point. The only format war I remember was the Beta vs. VHS war, and ultimately there was a winner in that one. Hence my earlier posting about being tired of it all. I'll stay as interested as anyone else - and I am not any kind of authority on it - i'm just the average consumer waiting to see what body (or bodies) float down the river.

VHS/Beta was different because that was the first mass home video product. Right now there is a very good video format out there its called DVD..with a massive installed base.
So I don't think the lessons of VHS/Beta really apply here...IMHO

Thats a few weeks away. I'll be grabbing both and the PS3 sure as hell better be able to play those extras.
