Platinum Disney titles on Blu-ray? First one's Sleeping Beauty

First of all, you get the envelope from BB and it's prepaid so you ship for free. Second, if you've been buying DVDs for years I don't know how you wouldn't have some old Disney DVD you don't need any more. I found an old copy of Peter Pan in a box in my closet which had been replaced in my collection by the Platinum Edition some time back. I've got a lot of others I could have used.

Has anyone used the second disc from a 2-disc release? Some of the two disc Disney videos I have don't have any extras on the second disc I would ever imagine rewatching, so I think one of those would be a prime candidate. Certainly an extras second disc would qualify as 'ANY Disney DVD' in my book.

Geez, Jack, that's the WORST Best Buy anywhere. Never ever go back there. Hell, the one in Bailey's Crossroads is not that far from it. It's bigger and has a better staff. But my favorite is still Tysons. I used to hate all BB's, but I think they really are listening to their complaints. Because those two are 1000 times better than, say, a year ago. And better stocked.

I agree Tyson's is the best - it seems like they let the staff decide what they showcase/demo on select tv's.

My Best Buy of choice is now Potomac Yard. I used to go to the Pentagon City one all the time, but it's layout now feels too cramped...I only go there if they have something in stock that the other ones don't. Bailey's Crossroads isn't a bad one either.

Back on topic, just got my BD of "Sleeping Beauty" in the mail today. The picture quality is insanely beautiful. I've owned this film on VHS, SD and now BD. And never has it looked better. The colors literally jump off the screen. In fact, they are so bright, once or twice it hurt my eyes. Check out the blue back ground behind the king and queen at the beginning when everyone welcomed the baby princess Aurora. As the three fairies were granting their wishes/gifts.

Anyone needing a Disney DVD might want to check out their local FYE. A USED Teacher's Pet rang up at 2.99 for me even though it was marked higher. I had a coupon that brought it to 2.00.

Sigh, this is getting annoying. I'm trying to sign up for Disney BD-Live via disneybdlive.com. When it asks if I am already a Disney Online member, I put in my account info. Then the user info screen comes up, and it has all of my information already filled in. So I choose an avatar and select my gender and click submit. It then says that the email address is already in use! Uh, yea, Disney, isn't that the point?! You asked if I had a Disney Online account already! One would then maybe figure that I don't need to sign up here, and I can already login with my Disney Online account, but that doesn't work! Anyone else having these issues?

Yea, I doubt they'll be helpful, but I went ahead and shot them an email. Maybe I'll be pleasantly surprised.

I second Potomac Yards, quite a nice Best Buy. Sorry to sidetrack, um, Sleeping Beauty is a great disc!

The DVD's audio pops and cracks when I play it in the Venture HD-DVD player I bought last month. In my Toshiba HD-D3 player it's fine as well as my Magnavox BD player.
Maybe I need to up the firmware in my Venture.

I'm surprised more people haven't commented on Grand Canyon (not that it's even mentioned as an extra ANYWHERE on the packaging). The opening aerial shots are grainy as hell, but some other shots in it rival Planet Earth for clarity and beauty. Plus, the music's cool.
As far as Sleeping Beauty, it's UN...REAL. Truly. By which I mean, it's jaw-droppingly gorgeous, but also very clearly manipulated using modern means to really make it pop. I don't care, 'cause I agree with Disney's assertion that grain is not meant to be an essential element of their animated films.

The movie does look gorgeous. I don't know if it will be this way for most or all of their classic movies in high-def, but I could really see the discrepancy between the animated characters and the backgrounds. The backgrounds are jaw-droppingly detailed and sharp which in some scenes makes the characters look kind of soft and out-of-focus. I'm sure this is just how the movie looks because obviously not as much time is put into animating individual frames as is put into painting single backgrounds but I don't recall ever noticing it when watching other animated movies. I am guessing high def just makes it that more obvious. I am not an expert here so I'm sure others can explain this much better.
