Indeed! When I was seven, my parents too me to see this in 70MM at a theater. The screen was massive and it was quite an experience for me. I just recently learned that "The Black Cauldron" was also released in 70MM. But I also heard "Lady and the Tramp" was too. Can anyone confirm? I have that on widescreen somewhere on my shelf (VHS or DVD....can't remember).

Of all of the hand drawn animated movies (complete list below), after the release of "Sleeping Beauty", I'm looking most forward to the following on BD one day: "Peter Pan", "Snow White", "Pinocchio", "Bambi", "Cinderella" and "The Hunchback of Notre Dame". I've alway thought the colors in "Peter Pan" were the most vibrant of all of Disney's animated movies. So I'm most excited about that. Sure, it's not his best film. But it's fun and has beautiful animation. I'd rent all on BD, well, maybe not "Treasure Planet" and "Atlantis". But the list above are the one's that I'd buy right away.
1. Snow White And The Seven Dwarfs
2. Pinocchio
3. Fantasia

Anyone have any issues registering with Disney BD Live? I enter my roadrunner account and it says invalid email, and my Gmail says already a member...

Came here to ask the same thing. I'm unable to log in, but I received email confirmation. My registration had an error message on the last page as well.

For Best Buy's $10 gift card promotion, do you think I could send in the bonus Sleeping Beauty DVD that came packaged with the Blu-ray? I have no use for it, and it doesnt really specify anything other then the used DVD you send in must be a Disney DVD...

My stupid Best Buy didn't have it either. Sleeping Beauty was going to be my first Blue Ray DVD ever since I plan on buying a player before this year is over. Without the possible $10 back in gift card form I just bought the regular DVD instead.

Knowing Disney's history of recoloring and tinkering with their animated classics (including re-animating entire sections of Beauty & the Beast and The Lion King), they probably just CGI'd in some extra picture on the sides for the hell of it.

Do you just have to send and Disney DVD by itself, or do you have to send the case along too? Since the instructions just say "DVD", I can see it being interpreted both ways.

The movie was shot in a process called Super Technirama 70. IMDb claims that the negative aspect ratio was 2.55:1. However, the Wikipedia entry says that Technirama and Super Technirama 70 were 2.35:1, which this site agrees with. On the other hand, this site says Super Technirama 70 would have been 2.20:1, and this site says 2.42:1. ![Confused](/images/smilies/confused.gif)

there's a magazine I was perusing yesterday at Borders with a 'Sleeping Beauty' article, the name escapes me, but it was also stating that the negative aspect ratio is 2.55 - so I gather Disney IS telling the truth in stating this is the first time we're all seeing the film in it's widest incarnation. Incidently they were wrong in thinking this release is Disney's first DTS-HD MA release.

'Lady and the Tramp' was Cinemascope (2.55:1). The special edition dvd includes a remixed 5.1 soundtrack as well as the original cinemascope audio tracks.
'The Black Cauldron' was the last 70mm animated feature from Disney studios.
'Tron' was also shot in 70mm

The case fits inside the prepaid envelope so I sent in the whole thing. I didn't need it and I'd rather they don't pull some technicality on me.

I'm not saying that the aspect ratio on the Blu-ray is wrong. I just haven't found anything definitive about what a Super Technirama 70 aspect ratio should really be.
I suppose it's possible that Disney animated the film at 2.55:1 because that was the CinemaScope aspect ratio at the time, and they were planning for the 35mm release prints to be compatible with that ratio.
