Secondly, I would like to know how many screens are actually 50 or larger. I'm sure there a lot, but I'm guessing the 37 -46 inches are the majority size for most HDTV buyers.
But I do agree that focus is the issue I can spot with an upconverted DVD vs. HD media...whether most people can see that, I don't know.

At the proper viewing distance for your TV the differences will be very obvious on almost any size HDTV.

Paramount is poised to drop its support of HD DVD after Warner Brothers’ recent backing of Sony’s Blu-ray technology, in a move that will sound the death knell of HD DVD and bring the home entertainment format war to a definitive end.
However, Paramount, which is owned by Viacom, is understood to have a clause in its contract with the HD DVD camp that would allow it to switch sides in the event of Warner Bros backing Blu-ray, according to people familiar with the situation.

It is kind of sad because current HD content is super compressed and full of digital artifacts. We will end up with a generation of people that think seeing compression noise is perfectly normal just like we got used to snow back in the analog TV antenna days.

For things I can't find in HD-DVD, I will do without or go with SD-DVD. Sony can bite my ass, and they can keep their pathetic game console which they can only prop up with non-game content. But I'm not bitter

Sony threw away the video game market to win the HDM market. I don't think that's going to change at this point.

Sony were never a game company anyway, so I guess it makes sense.
Of course neither are Microsoft, but at least they kept the focus in the right place.

If you don't like the PS3 then don't get one. I'm fine with mine. I don't particularly care to have an X-Box but I'm not trying to sell you on getting rid of yours. The Wii might be in our future but not yet. Again, I feel like people are downplaying anything related to Sony out of what has happened. Of course the X-Box sells more games because it has a larger install base. Doesn't this seem reasonable? Isn't this basically what has happened with Blu-Ray? But none of this makes the PS3 an incompetent system.
